Is 3 Way Max Turf and Ornamental Broadleaf Herbicide safe to use on Mondo grasses and Liriopes?

In particular, is this product safe to use on Mondo (Monkey) grass? What about Liriope? I'm looking to kill the nutsedges and bitterchamber weeds that is infesting my monkey (mondo) grass (container grown).

Answer:

The product label for 3 Way Max Turf and Ornamental Broadleaf Herbicide does not list whether it will harm liriope, monkey grass, or mondo grass. These grasses are generally very hardy and only killed with non-selective herbicides such as glyphosate. 3 Way Max will not control either nutsedge or chamber bitter, however. (Some articles do claim that 2,4-D will kill chamber bitter or mimosa.)  Southern Ag Basagran Sedge Control is labeled as safe to use on green liriope and will kill nutsedge. If the trouble is just in containerized plants, then you can hand-pull the weeds when they are young and consider transplanting healthy plants into pots with new, clean soil.
