    Q
Should I use Maxforce Complete Granular Bait to avoid an ant infestation in my yard?
    A

If you need to make a broadcast application for ants and other crawling pests, then a great product to use would be Talstar XTRA Granules. This is an insecticide granule that you apply using a spreader and then water in to activate the granules. Talstar XTRA has two active ingredients for quick knockdown and long-lasting residual. If you have ant mounds, you can also use this product as a mound drench. Maxforce Complete is a great bait for listed ant species which are foraging for protein-based foods. Granular ant baits neeed to be applied to dry ground and allowed to remain dry as long as possible for best results.

We have more great tips in our Ant Treatment Guide here. A great liquid spray for you to use around the perimeter of the home for ants and dozens of other common crawling and flying pests would be Temprid FX.

    Q
Please advise best insecticide for Texas Leaf Cutter Ants.
I am unable to find the mound directly since they are out in thick undergrowth woods. The ants come from the woods and attack my hibiscus plants and strip them bare overnight.
    A

Leaf cutter ants can be a difficult pest to get rid of. The colonies are large and the ants make their own food so poison baits only have limited effects on this species of ants. According to several university websites, Maxforce Complete Granules containing ?hydramethlynon? are some what effective, though they will usually eliminate only about 30% of a large colony in one treatment and will need to be reapplied several times. DeltaGard Granules? is one of the only products actually labeled? for leaf cutter ants. The product label? recommends treating the mound directly if possible and lightly watering the granules in. Again, it may take several treatments to get the desired results. We also recommend contacting your local cooperative extension office to see if they have any recommendations for products that have worked for other people in your region.

    Q
Will Maxforce Complete Granular Bait have any effect on palmetto bugs?
    A

Maxforce Complete Granular Bait is labeled to treat for a wide variety of roaches including the American Cockroach, (also known as the Palmetto bug), and should have no problem treating the roaches in your area. However, we also recommend using an IGR like Gentrol Point Source to stop them from reproducing.

    Q
In terms of the size of the granules, how does Maxforce Complete compare to the old yellow label "fine" granule?
    A

Maxforce Complete Granular Bait was created to simplify the product line. Maxforce complete contains both the smaller and large sized granules which were in the previous yellow and green top products. So the manufacturer essentially combined both products into just one.

    Q
How does rain affect the Maxforce Granular Bait?
    A

Rain can cause the Maxforce Complete Granular Bait to wash away or get moldy over time, which makes it less attractive. We do recommend re-applying the bait after a heavy rain.

    A

Yes, Maxforce Complete Granular Bait would be a good option for leaf cutter ants. Leaf cutter ants can be a very difficult pest to get rid of. The colonies can be large and the ants make their own food, so poison baits only have limited effects on this species. According to several university websites, Maxforce Complete Granular Bait is effective, though usually baiting will only eliminate about 30% of a large colony in one treatment and several applications will be necessary. Q
When you say " 0.5 oz per 25 linear feet" are you referring to volume or weight?
    A

The product label instructions for applying Maxforce Complete Granular Bait are referring to weight when listing amounts to use per area. 0.5 oz of product is the equivalent volume measurement of 1 tablespoon. For broadcast applications, use 1.5 lbs per Acre (24 oz), or 1 oz. per 1,800 square feet.

    Q
Will MaxForce Complete Granular Bait get into our well water?
We have a terrible ant problem. I want to try this on the side of the house they seem to come from, which is the side farthest from our well. However, I'm nervous that it will get into our well water. Is this safe to use?
    A
When used as directed the MaxForce Complete Granular Bait is safe to use.  It would not leech into the soil and contaminate well water if used on the side of the house without the well.  The only time this would be an issue is if it was applied close the the well and run off allowed the product to get into the well.
