    Q
Would Merit 2F control a gypsy moth infestation on oak trees? If so, when would be best time to apply?
Gypsy moth caterpillars have been decimating the 60+ oak trees on property. Have been using bands treated w/ Suspend SC which will stop ones that come into contact w/ band but does not control caterpillars 50' up tree. What is best way to treat caterpillars 50' up tree? Thank you
    A

Merit 2F Insecticide is not labeled for gypsy moth caterpillars, so we do not recommend it for this application. Typically for caterpillars, you would use a Bt product such as Monterey BT or DiPel PRO DF. These products must be applied topically to control the caterpillars. Unfortunately, we do not know of a systemic insecicide that will control this pest.

Merit 2F Insecticide is not labeled for midges therefore we would not be able to advise on a proper dilution rateBayer Advanced Dual Action Rose and Flower Insect Killer Continuous Spray is labeled for Midges on roses.

    Q
It is raining lightly, can I apply the Merit 2F Insecticide in the rain?
    A

It is not recommended to apply Merit 2F Insecticide during rain.  Normally as long as an insecticide like Merit 2F has had at least 6 hours of dry time after it has been applied, then it is considered rain fast to most rain conditions that would come afterwards. If it rained as early as 4 hours after application you may need to reapply.

    Q
How do I kill pachypsylla in mature hackberry trees?
We have thousands of these small creatures that hang around our windows in the fall.
    A

Yes, you could apply a systemic product such as Merit 2F Insecticide as foliar sprays only help when they are in certain stages on the hackberry tree. The sytemic product would normally take a couple of weeks to translocate all the way through the tree, so a foliar spray may help in the mean time until the product works its way through the center.  We highly suggest using it again before symptoms start to appear to prevent your trees damage the next year. Adult psyllids emerge from galls in September and can be annoying to people living near infested trees. Psyllids will swarm to houses, particularly light-colored ones, in search of protected locations to pass the winter. When the weather warms up, they come out of dormancy and become a nuisance. They do not bite humans or pets.
