    Q
Will Merit 75 WP kill bag worms?
    A
Merit 75 WP is not labeled for bagworms and may not provide you with satisfactory results. We recommend that you choose a product that lists bagworms on the product label such as Talstar P (Talstar P is the product most commonly selected by pros for bagworm control), Thuricide, Mavrik, or Permethrin SFR. Please take a few minutes to read our article Bagworm Control to learn when you should start spraying for bagworms.

    Q
How soon can I use Merit 75 WP after Talstar application?
I live in Gainesville Florida and I applied Talstar P liquid to my lawn and I am not seeing the results I had in years past; the chinch bloom continues to spread and fast. The local extension office is reporting Chinch bugs have developed an immunity to Bifenthrin in my region. I need a quick knock down and decent residual product.
    A
You can use the Merit as soon as you would like as the Bifenthrin and Imidacloprid will not have any adverse reactions being used together.

    Q
Would Merit 75 WP work on carpenter ants infesting an oak tree?
I have carpenter ants infesting an oak tree. Will this product eliminate them by treating the root system?
    A

No, Merit 75 WP would not be an effective product to use for carpenter ants in an oak tree.  As an alternative we would suggest using a product called Dominion 2L.

  • Asked by Kent from St. Louis, Mo

    Q
What time of year should Merit 75 WP be applied to kill boring insects in globe locust trees?
Location: St. Louis, MO. Plan to use soil drench method. Thinking about using this product now (early November, if it'll do any good) and Safari via basal trunk application in spring.
    A
Merit should be applied when the tree is actively growing. If you try to apply a systemic product like Merit to the root system when the tree has gone dormant it will not be able to trans-locate through the tree. Instead you should consider using a topical product such as Tengard to stop new insects from invading the tree. Tengard can be sprayed on the bark and the foliage to kill exposed insects before they invade the tree.

  • Asked by Gary
    07/15/2011
    Q
Can Merit be mixed as a concentrate and used in a Dial-n-Spray? If so, what concentration?
How much powder per quart of water for the concentrate, and how many ounces per gallon to dial in on the sprayer? I have 28 feet of 8 ft tall "Snow on the Mountains" which get infested every year with the span worms of White Tipped Black Moths. The span worms can strip the shrubs bare, then metamorphose into moths, which lay more eggs which hatch into more span worms. The typical 1 gallon pump hand sprayer takes forever to treat this much shrubbery.
    A
Unfortunately most hose end sprayers only work with liquid and not a dry product like merit.  It typically will not mix very well with the water.  Although it does take longer, a hand pump sprayer is much more effective and ensures the product is mixed thoroughly and applied evenly.  We do have many inexpensive back pack sprayers which will allow you to apply 4 gallons of solution at a time fast and efficiently.

  • Asked by Greg from Frederick, Maryland
    03/24/2019
    Q
When is the earliest date a soil drench of Merit 75 WP for aphids on Crape Myrtle be applied in the Washington D.C. area?
    A

Please contact your local cooperative extension office to determine the correct timing of the application as this will vary greatly from region to region. Systemic products such as Merit 75 WP are best applied before pests are a problem because it takes time to translocate throughout the tree.

    Q
How much Merit to buy to do a Foliar treatment on 32 ornamental flowering shrubs & plants total 130 ft height
All shrubs & plants are outside in my yards.
    A

You would need approx. 182 tsp or 30 oz of Merit to treat 130ft os shrub height. Since the label suggest using .7-1.4 tsp per foot of shrub height. You may also want to check out Dominion2l as a lower cost alternative with the same active ingredient.

    Q
Will Merit 75 work on nematodes found in the earth?
    A
Merit 75 is not labeled for nematodes so we are not sure if it would provide any type of control for this pest. We would recommend contacting your local cooperative extension office to seek further information on the type of nematode that is infesting certain plants on your property. In most situations you can manage nematode populations without any type of chemical control.

    Q
What is the application rate for residential lawns using a pump sprayer?
Should I use more than 1 teaspoon for 10 gallons? The area is about 1500 square '.
    A

The Merit 75 WP Product Label states that 4 level teaspoons per 1000 sq/ft should be used in sufficient water volume to reach the roots and soil of the lawn. On average this is around 2-3 gallons of water per 1000 sq/ft.

  • Asked by Andy from East Tn.
    07/18/2014
    Q
What is the correct amount for a soil drench application for an apple tree with a 6.5" trunk circumference?
Also is there a recommended application interval. My primary pest is the Japanese Beetle.
    A
Merit 75 is labeled for both apple crops and Japanese Beetles, however the label is conflicting on if they can be used together . The label does not list Japanese Beetles on apple trees, only Aphids (except Wooly apple aphid) Leafhoppers (including glassy winged sharpshooter leafminer Mealybugs) and San Jose scale. For trees is is recommended to use .7 to 1.4 teaspoons per trunk diameter. You would use 2.3 - 4.5 tsp depending on the strength you are wanting to go. We would recommend you contact the manufacturer directly for reassurance since the label is confilcting. You can contact Bayer at 1-800-331-2867 for further assistance.
