    Q
Will Monterey Once A Year Insect Control II work on pine bark beetles on a ponderosa pine?
I have healthy looking ponderosa pines but my area in Sierras has a lot of pine bark beetle infestations and I want to treat incase mine do have some infestation I cant see. Also will this deter infestations?
    A

Unfortunately there is no easy solution when it comes to pine beetles. Infected trees should be cut down (before the newly hatched beetles fly out of the trees in the spring/summer) and the wood burned or chipped, while other still healthy trees should be sprayed annually to protect them. Because of the natural boring behavior of the beetle they are protected from topically applied insecticides and systemic insecticides such as Monterey Once A Year Insect Control II have proven ineffective for pine beetle infestations. Healthy trees can be protected before the beetles attack by topically spraying them with a synthetic pyrethroid like Tengard. The tree should be sprayed from the ground to 15 ft up the trunk to prevent future infestations. You should contact your local cooperative extension office to find out the best time to start spraying in your region.

    Q
When is the best time to apply Monterey Once A Year Insect Control II?
I live in Central Calif and our crepe myrtles are emitting lots of "honey dew" right now (late Sept) . If I apply Monterey OAY Insect control now, will it help the tree for 12 months? O is it best to wait and apply before the next grow season?
    A
Use Monterey Once A Year Insect Control II product as part of an overall tree and shrub health care program before problems start. Monterey Once A Year Insect Control II can be applied anytime, except when the ground is waterlogged or frozen. These conditions inhibit themovement of the product down into the root zone. We recommend contacting your county's Master Gardner to work directly on a treatment program suitable for your region.

    Q
Will Monterey Once A Year Insect Control II help prevent powdery mildew on Crepe Myrtle?
    A

Monterey Once A Year Insect Control II is an insecticide and not a fungicide, so it does not treat disease directly. This product can help treat and prevent infestations of scale insects which can then lead to other issues and make the tree more vulnerable to disease. You can apply a fungicide such as Fertilome F-Stop to prevent and treat disease on your trees. Be sure that you also remove fallen leaves each fall to prevent overwintering fungal spores.

    Q
What if I've used too much Monterey Once A Year Insect Control II? Can my plant be saved?
Judging by the look of the leaves, I probably used too much on my potted Ficus tree. The nursery and I worked together on the amount to use but it was probably too much. Is there anything I can do to help dissipate it or help my plant recover? It's in a 18inch pot and about 6ft tall with 6 trunks. I've been misting it, using a light fertilizer but the leaves are still drying and dropping.
    A

Monterey Once A Year Insect Control II is a systemic insecticide which is absorbed through the roots and carried up by the plant, though it is not applied to container plants and there is no rate listed on label for them, only for inground plants.  Once applied, there is not much that can be done to reverse the systemic effect on the plant.  We recommend reaching out to either the master gardener at your local extension office, a local arborist, or to the manufacturer for product support by either calling (559) 499-2100 or emailing [email protected].
