Quali-Pro MSM Turf Herbicide is a high-quality granular formula that helps control unwanted broadleaf and grassy weeds on ornamental turf, golf courses and sod farms. It contains 60% Metsulfuron Methyl as its active ingredient which is effective against weeds like Aster, clover, dollarweed, bahiagrass, foxtail, bittercress, henbit, buckhorn, chickweed, plantain, dandelion, and more. It is absorbed through the roots and works by blocking cell division to prevent weed growth. It is labeled for use on Bermudagrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Fine Fescue, and St. Augustinegrass turf areas.

HOW TO USE
Use spray volumes of 20 to 80 gallons per acre and pressures of 25 to 35 psi at the following rates of MSM Turf Herbicide from the weeds listed below:
0.125 TO 0.25 OZ Per Acre
0.25 TO 0.33 OZ Per Acre
0.33 TO 0.5 OZ Per Acre
0.25 TO 0.75 OZ Per Acre
0.5 TO 1 OZ Per Acre
* A repeat application may be required in 4 to 6 weeks.
** Suppression only involving a visual reduction in competition compared to an untreated area.
*** Controls seedling Virginia buttonweed. Suppression only of more mature plants. Repeat application may be required in 4 to 6 weeks.
The required amount of MSM Turf Herbicide should be added when the spray tank is half full of water and, with agitator running, add the proper amount of product. Finish adding the required amount of water. Continuous agitation is required to keep the product in suspension.
Spray preparations of this product may degrade in acid solutions if not used in 24 hours; it is stable in alkaline solutions. Thoroughly re-agitate before using.
Tank mixes with other registered herbicides should be tested for compatibility before full scale mixing. Use mechanical or bypass agitation to thoroughly mix the spray suspension. It is not necessary to premix this product with water in a separate container prior to adding it to the spray tank. This product should always be added to the tank first, before any other herbicides or adjuvants.
Kentucky Bluegrass and Fine Fescue:
Apply 0.25 to 0.5 oz of MSM Turf Herbicide per acre for control of the listed weeds. Do not exceed a total of 0.5 oz per acre within a 9-month period.
St. Augustinegrass, Bermudagrass and Zoysiagrass (Meyers and Emerald):
Apply 0.25 to 1.0 oz of MSM Turf Herbicide per acre for weed control. Some chlorosis or stunting of the turfgrass may occur following application.
Bahiagrass Control:
For the selective control of Bahiagrass in Bermudagrass turf, use 0.25 to 0.75 oz of MSM Turf Herbicide per acre. Use the higher rates of the range on Argentine, Common and Paraguayan Bahiagrass. Apply a repeat treatment in 4 to 6 weeks if necessary. Some chlorosis or stunting of the Bermudagrass may occur following the application.
Centipedegrass:
Apply 0.25 to 0.5 oz of this product per acre for weed control. Some chlorosis or stunting of the turfgrass may occur following the application.
IMPORTANT: Addition of a nonionic surfactant of at least 80% active ingredient at 0.25 percent by volume (1 qt/100 gal) provides maximum performance, but may temporarily increase chlorosis of the turf. Allow one week between the application of MSM Turf Herbicide and other pesticide products. (This guideline can be relaxed where a
severe insect or disease attack requires immediate treatment.)
Actually Kills Virginia Buttonweed!

This product is very effective against Virginia Buttonweed (assuming the directions are followed and the second application is made), and is safe to use on Zoysia (again assuming label directions are followed). The active ingredient of this product (metsulfuron methyl) is the same as the herbicide formerly sold under the trade name “Manor”. Metsulfuron is one of only two selective herbicide chemical groups actually shown to be effective against Virginia Buttonweed, and MSM is the only one of these chemicals I have found that is sold in volumes economical for residential use. In fact at my local farmer's co-op, even the container of MSM I found was 3 times the cost of what I paid online and would have been enough chemical to treat my yard for over a decade (far past the shelf life of the chemical in an opened container). In my experience, Zoysia is quite tolerant of this herbicide at the recommended rates as long as ambient temperatures are under 85F. The best strategy is to make the initial broadcast application in mid spring (early to mid-May in TN) before sustained temperatures reach 85, and while Buttonweed is still in its more vulnerable stages. Spot spraying during summer also doesn't seem to harm the turf grass. Some stunting of Zoysia will occur if you broadcast spray during hot weather, but it is short lived and the turf seems to rebound quickly. It took me basically 2 years to rid my yard of a pretty heavy Buttonweed infestation by using the split application method of initial broadcast spray in May, followed up with a sequential application 6 weeks later. Since then, most years I don't have to spray for Buttonweed at all, and when I have it has only been light spot spraying in early summer. Also, it may not be completely clear from the description, but this product is in dry form, so “oz.” refers to the unit of weight, not fluid ounces. I was initially concerned when I read the chemical data sheet prior to purchase that this product would be impossible to mix up in lawn sprayer sizes (before I realized that it was not referring to a fluid ounce), but the product is not too terribly difficult to mix for a residential scale application with the volumetric dosage cup that is included.

I purchased this product to control Virginia button weed. I didn't mixed the correct amount of product in my twenty five gallon sprayer. However, the button weed turned brown one week later. I can only image my results the next time I spray with correct mixture. This product also killed other broadleaf weeds in my Bermuda lawn.

So long Va Buttonweed!

its the only thing I've found that eradicates Va buttonweed. Was getting worse year after year, but two spot applications at full strength killed it. No damage to Zoysia, slight temporary yellowing to Bermuda and heavy yellowing to St. Augustine. Use an electronic scale to measure small mixes (1-4 gal) in grams, or the included measure for larger batches. Effective on other weeds too.

The perfect solution to my virginia button weed problem!

I purchased this on the suggestion of a neighbor. I was able to get it here for a fraction of the price that she paid! I sprayed it on my virginia button weed, and it is really working! The good grass was not affected at all....only the weeds! Very happy with this product!

We recommend allowing at least 7-14 days to see wilting/yellowing of target weeds when using Quali-Pro MSM Turf Herbicide or other post-emergent herbicides. Per the product label, control of Dollarweed may require an additional application after 4-6 weeks. You will see best results using post-emergent herbicides when the target weeds are young and actively growing. You may see some stunting or chlorosis of St. Augustine turfgrass after applying this product.

I have a 1 gallon sprayer and a lot slightly smaller than .25 acres. Applying to Bermudagrass and Zoysiagrass (Meyers and Emerald).
Quali-Pro MSM Turf Herbicide is applied at 0.25-1.0 oz per acre. If you are treating 10, 890 sq ft (1/4 acre), you will apply 7 grams for 1/4 acre (highest rate). Do not apply to any Bermuda lawn in the Spring. Allow complete green up and apply in Summer, Fall and Winter only. Applying during Spring transition period will result in you killing the grass.

Quali-Pro MSM Turf Herbicide is not labeled for burr weeds of any kind. You may want to look at a product like Trimec Classic, which lists several burr weeds on the label.

Will be using it for crabgrass control on St Augustine. Also, what would be the rate for spot treatment?
Yes, Quali-Pro MSM Turf Herbicide can be used for spot treatment. Per the label instructions: "For Spot Applications, use 1 ounce per 100 gallons of water."
Per the manufacturer, their recommended rate to use for spot applications is of 0.1 oz per 4 gallons of water, which can be easily measured with their measuring device provided.2020 Update: MSM Is no longer labeled for crabgrass and not recommended

The usage rate will vary depending on what you are treating for and what type of grass you have, what type of weeds you are targeting, whether you will be spot treating or broadcast spraying and how much space you need to cover. Quali-Pro MSM Turf Herbicide's label lists all of the usage rates. If you are spot treating, per the label, use 1 oz per 100 gallons of water.

I only have several spots so is it better to spot treat or to treat the whole lawn?
Quali-Pro MSM Turf Herbicide controls seedling Virginia buttonweed. It will provide suppression only of more mature plants. Repeat application may be required in 4 to 6 weeks. It is applied at the rate of 0.5 to 1.0 oz per acre in 100 gallons. This breaks down to approx 0.005 to 0.01 oz per 1 gallon. If you only have a small area you can spot treat. If it is all over the lawn it is best to broadcast. You would use the 0.01 oz per gallon for spot treating.

The temperature in Arkansas is staying around 90. Is that too hot to be applying MSM to my yard?
Per the product label for Quali-Pro MSM Turf Herbicide: Do not apply MSM Turf Herbicide to turf under stress from drought, insects, disease, cold temperatures, high temperatures of above 85°F on cool season grasses, or poor fertility as injury may result. If temperatures are below 85 at night, then you can treat in the early morning before temperatures are this high and when the grass has had time to recover from the heat during the night.
