    Q
    Controlling Italian Arum
At the recommendation of my extension office, I purchased this product to be used in my efforts to control Italian Arum, but there is no suggested use rate for that plant in the instructions. From my reading on this plant, metsulfuron-methyl (MSM) by itself will not be effective. Some researched-based literature reports some success with a tank mix of MSM, glyphosate and a surfactant to achieve control. I'm using a 1-gallon tank, as it is a small patch. Can you advise on the correct dosage and correct method for mixing with glyphosate and a surfactant?
    A

We do apologize but since this is an off label usage of MSM Turf Herbicide  we cannot advise of rates that would be effective.  You may try reaching out to the manufacturer directly for advice, they can be reached at (800) 242-5562.

    Q
Can MSM be mixed with other herbicides safely? 2,4-d, Dicamba, Sulfentrazone?
    A

The product label does not mention any of those actives as tested for tank mixes.  It does state: Tank mixes with other registered herbicides and MSM Turf Herbicide should be tested for compatibility before full scale mixing. Use mechanical or bypass agitation to thoroughly mix the spray suspension. It is not necessary to premix this product with water in a separate container prior to adding it to the spray tank. This product should always be added to the tank first, before any other herbicides or adjuvants.

    Q
How much MSM Turf Herbicide is needed for buttonweed control?
I have a 25 gal spray rig; spray rig is pulled behind a tractor, 10 nozzles. 5 acres. Can I mix with Celsius WG? Do the rates of application change or stay the same?
    A

You will use 0.5 to 1.0 oz of MSM Turf Herbicide per Acre for control of Virginia buttonweed. Per the product label, a subsequent application after 4-6 weeks may be needed. If you plan to tank mix with another herbicide, then be sure you do a small jar test for compatability first. I would also spot treat a small area of grass for tolerance since the turf will be more stressed in summer.

  • Asked by Stephen from Ruston, La

    Q
How much MSM Turf should be used per gallon for range application?
    A

Per the product label: Use up to 1 ounce MSM Turf Herbicide per acre as a broadcast spray when applying to established grasses in rangeland 1/10 of an ounce for new seedings. For Spot Applications, use 1 ounce per 100 gallons of water. Do not apply more than 1 2/3 ounces per acre per year.  The spot rate breaks down to approz 0.01 oz per gallon.

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to measure 0.01 oz of Quali-Pro MSM Turf Herbicide to make a 1-gallon solution. Per the manufacturer, their recommended rate to use for spot applications is of 0.1 oz per 4 gallons of water, which can be easily measured with their measuring device provided.

    Q
Can I spray MSM Turf at .01/2 gallons to kill the buttonweed without damaging my centipede plugs?
Last fall I killed everything in my yard and planted rye grass. Now plugging 3x3 inch centipede plugs. Virginia Buttonweed has starting to appear between the plugs. Can I spray MSM Turf at .01/2 gallons to kill the buttonweed without damaging my centipede plugs.
    A

MSM Turf Herbicide is only applied to grasses that are well established.  This means it has to be at least 4 weeks from plugging/seeding or be mowed at least twice before you can apply, otherwise you could injure the new grass.
