Otherwise, we suggest using only the Roundup so that you do not have to worry about residuals interfering with your replanting. There is a danger if using MSM around oak trees, so you want to be sure that you do not use MSM under any oak tree canopies: be sure to stay outside the drip line of these trees and do not spray if there is wind or other risk of drift to oak trees. You can use MSM Turf Herbicide at a rate of 0.25 – 0.75 oz per Acre to control bahiagrass. Keep in mind that MSM can have a long soil residual, so you should not apply this near desirable ornamental plants or where you intend to plant new trees or shrubs within 1 year and new bedding plants within 2 years. Please refer to the product label for complete application instructions.

MSM Turf Herbicide is best applied when target weeds are actively growing and healthy, usually best between temperatures above 55 and below 85. Per the product label: Do not apply MSM Turf Herbicide to turf under stress from drought, insects, disease, cold temperatures, high temperatures of above 85°F on cool season grasses, or poor fertility as injury may result
Per the MSM Turf Herbicide product label on Fescue: This product may temporarily stunt tall fescue, cause it to turn yellow, or cause seedhead suppression.
To minimize these symptoms, take the following precautions:
• Do not use more than 4/10 ounce of MSM Turf Herbicide per acre • Use a tank mix with 2,4-D
• Use the lowest specified rate for the target weeds
• Use a non-ionic surfactant at 1/2 to 1 pint per 100 gallons of spray solution
• Make application later in the spring after the new growth is 5 to 6 inches tall, or in the fall
• Do not use a surfactant if liquid nitrogen is used as a carrier
• Do not use a spray adjuvant unless it is a non-ionic surfactant
Unfortunately, there is no easy way to measure Quali-Pro MSM Turf Herbicide to make a 1 gallon solution. Per the manufacturer, their recommended rate to use for spot applications is of 0.1 oz per 4 gallons of water, which can be easily measured with their measuring device provided.
With MSM turf herbicide you will need to know your spray rate, or how much water you are applying to each 1,000 sq.ft. or lawn Mark off an area of 1,000 sq.ft. and spray water over this area to determine your spray rate. Once you know your spray rate, you will apply 0.02 to 0.06 grams per 1,000 sq.ft. So the rate for your 4-gallon sprayer is 0.8 to 0.24 oz per 4 gallons of water covering roughly 4,000 sq feet.
MSM Turf Herbicide is made to dissolve after mixing and agitating the solution. Per the product label: “Do not store above 100?F for extended periods of time. Storage below 20?F can result in formation of crystals. If product crystallizes, store at 50?F to 70?F and agitate to redissolve crystals.” The product label also mentions, “Spray preparations of this product may degrade in acid solutions if not used in 24 hours; it is stable in alkaline solutions. Thoroughly re-agitate before using.”
MSM Turf Herbicide is safe for dogs and horses if used correctly. According to the MSM Turf Herbicide product label there are no grazing or haying restrictions.

If you are mixing multiple products together, then you are usually using the standard rates for each product, unless otherwise directed on the product labels. MSM Turf Herbicide may be difficult to mix with another water-dispersible granule such as Katana herbicide. You would need to make a small jar test for compatibility first, and I would also test a small area of turf for tolerance first. MSM can cause chlorosis of many turf-types, so you want to be very cautious about mixing that with other products.
