Natural Insect Control Kit - Questions & Answers

The products within the Natural Insect Kit will control a wide variety of pest including ants, spiders, roaches, mosquitoes, millipedes, flies and many others that are listed on the individual product labels. They can be used indoors and out and will be safe for pets and kids as long as you use the products according to the label and keep them out of the area both during application, and until treated surfaces have dried. 

The OMRI Natural Insect Control Kit contains 2 products: Evergreen Pyrethrum Concentrate and Evergreen Pyrethrum Dust 1%. According to the MSDS label for the concentrate, it has a slight sweet odor. The MSDS label for the dust indicates that is has a slight pyrethrum odor, which is sweet-smelling as well.

The Natural insecticide products within this kit are not selective so if a bee were to land on a surface you sprayed it on it would likely kill them. The best tips we can offer to have the product not affect the bees would be to spray late in the afternoon when the bees are not active and have gone back to the hive for the day and try to avoid spraying directly over blooms. 

Per the Evergreen Pyrethrum Dust Product Label: LIVESTOCK, DAIRY, SWINE, POULTRY AND OTHER ANIMAL BUILDINGS AND PREMISES: To aid in the control of listed insects in listed indoor and outdoor animal areas, apply Evergreen® Pyrethrum Dust at the rate of 1 oz. per 50 square feet to cracks, crevices, voids, structural joints, floors, walls, wall joints, support beams, trusses, rafters, ceilings, around scales, chutes, gates, and other areas where insects harbor, alight, hide or travel. For larger area treatments use 16 to 24 oz. of Evergreen® Pyrethrum Dust per 1,000 square feet [4 to 6 ounces of Evergreen® Pyrethrum Dust per 250 square feet]. Avoid contamination of feed, feedstuffs or milking equipment. For Ticks, apply Evergreen® Pyrethrum Dust, at the rate of 1 ounce per 70 square feet in places where the insects are traveling or harboringApply 16 to 24 oz. of Evergreen® Pyrethrum Dust per 1,000 square feet [4 to 6 ounces of Evergreen® Pyrethrum Dust per 250 square feet] to exterior of livestock buildings in an 18" band along and adjacent to building foundations, and to a height of 2 to 3 feet up the side of the building where insects are active and may find entrance. 

Poultry: To control listed livestock insects, apply at a rate of 1 lb. per 100 birds [10 ounces per 60 birds]. Ensure thorough treatment of vent area.

Evergreen Pyrethrum Concentrate should be sprayed one foot up, one foot out around the foundation of your home. It can be sprayed around windows and doors as well. This can be applied every 21 days as needed.

Yes, the products inside the OMRI Natural Insect Control Kit are labeled for ticks. They can be applied outdoors in the areas where ticks would be, such as wooded areas. 

Yes, the products in the OMRI Natural Insect Control Kit will kill cutter ants. Evergreen Pyrethrum Concentrate is mixed at 1 - 3 oz. per gallon of water. Evergreen Pyrethrum Dust 1% is best used with a B&G Bulb Dispenser. This dust applicator comes with 2 extension tips that allow you reach deep into the crack and crevices and apply the dust inside the bees nest. You only want to fill the duster 1/2 full to ensure the proper amount of dust comes out.
