Are Nuvan ProStrips safe to use inside kitchen pantry with food inside?

A

Nuvan ProStrips are not safe to use inside a pantry with food inside. Nuvan ProStrips release an odorless vapor. We recommend to get rid of any food that may be contaminated or show pest activity. Depending on what you are treating, Pantry Pest Kit may work for you.

Is it safe to keep my bagged clothes in my bedroom closet when using Nuvan ProStrips?
I put Nuvan into large garbage bags, then twisted and sealed with duct tape. This is my bagged dry cleaning clothing. Then I put the bags in my bedroom closet, though I do open the closet occasionally. Is this safe? I hear different opinions and am nervous. I hope it's ok; saving me thousands in dry cleaning if it is.

Yes, as long as the bags themselves are not being opened during the treatment process, you can store the sealed bags in your closet with no problem. The only time you normally hear of people advising against this, is because you normally want as little clutter in a closet or closet floor as possible if treating for bed bugs so that way they have no folds to hide in other than where you have the chemical residuals left behind.

I've had a persistent pantry moth problem that appears to have moved out of the pantry and into other rooms.
Can I leave Nuvan strips throughout my condo for two weeks while I'm out of town? I have had the condo sprayed, bombed, traps set up for over a year and can't seem to get this problem resolved. I also don't live here full time. So it seems I make a little headway on it; leave and they return full force. I was thinking of leavingthe Nuvan strips out for two weeks with the place closed up to help with the problem. I also have pheromone traps in each room to help trap the moths. I have no idea where the food source is at this time. It could be in the walls, the vents, etc. The two exterminators I've used don't seem to want to follow up on this. Help!!

Now if you wanted to seal up a closet and use them that would work great! Please review our Pantry Moth control page. We recommend the Pantry Pest kit. We would recommend to add Cykick CS. Cy-Kick Residual Aerosol with a crevice tool (straw) for spraying in cracks and crevices around shelves and walls to kill pantry pest larvae and harborage areas. All contaminated food should be removed prior to treatment. Use products as directed on their corresponding labels. Be sure that you are discarding of any food that may be left for the extended time you are away. The bombs do not work as well, because they only kill what comes in contact with it. The Cy kick will help to treat them in the larvae and pupae states hidden in cracks and crevices.

Does Nuvan work on house or black flies?
I operate a small cafe and these were recommended to me by another restaurant owner. Do they work in repelling house or black flies?

As Nuvan ProStripes are labeled to be treated for flies we do not recommend using in food handling areas such as kitchens, or in large open spaces where people make occupy for an extended amount of time. Nuvan ProStrips are most effective in confined spaces.

Can I use the Nuvan ProStrips in a storage closet that has a water heater in it?

There should be no problem using Nuvan ProStrips in a closet that has a water heater as long as the closet is completely sealed from any living areas such as a kitchen, living room, or bedroom. Depending on what pest you are treating, we may recommend a different product for your needs.

Should any items be cleaned or discarded after treating in sealed bags with Nuvan ProStrips?
A steel cane and brace, clothing, toiletries (toothbrush, etc.), and messenger bags?

A

After treating clothes with the Nuvan ProStrips they should be washed and dried accordingly. This would be the same for any other items that can be washed. For anything that cannot be washed, you can just leave the product out for a few hours to air out.

We would want to leave the strips in for about 4 weeks.

We do not recommend applying Nuvan ProStrips in a mattress or boxspring encasement or in rooms that are being occupied such as the bedroom or kitchen, etc.

Most customers will use plastic tubs or garbage bags with a Nuvan ProStrip inside each container or bag. You are permitted to use Nuvan ProStrips in an enclosed area such as a closet if the door stays closed and it is not a room where people spend four or more hours at a time, per the product label. (You should never use Nuvan Prostrips in living areas.)

How many Nuvan ProStrips do I need for our shed?
We have a shed that is probably 8x10 feet. We have boxed and bagged up items and shoved it in the shed. I plan to cut the strips in half and tape to the top lid of totes.(Or could we stretch to a third cut?) Then also hang one up. My question is how full or empty do the totes have to be? Totes have mostly clothes in them. Bags are not tied off air tight. Do the bags need a strip in them too or can the hanging strip kill off the bugs in the bags? Thank you!

We recommend that you do not overly pack bags/containers/totes too full with belongings so that the vapors can work around the items effectively. The bags can use a strip but must be tied to enclose the strip for effectiveness. You can apply a strip one per 100-200 cubic feet of space for 2 weeks to 4 months depending on the targeted pest.

I own a camper van and i was wondering if I could just use a few of these in the van itself.
I'll be gone for 15 days and was thinking I could put two or three of them in the van hanging. Would this work or would it be toxic afterward?

We would not recommend using Nuvan Pro Strips in a vehicle or moving truck that will you and the individuals in your family will come in direct contact with. Please provide the targeted pest for alternate recommendations.

Can I use Nuvan in my beekeepers shed? I store empty hive equipment inc. frames w/ comb
Mice love the shed in the winter & ants, spiders & other insects can be found throughout the year. Are the Nuvan ProStrips safe to use since the frames & comb will eventually go into an active beehive which produces honey for human consumption?

How long do I need to keep items in zip tied trash bags with a Nuvan strip for cloth moths?
I had a cloth moth infestation and have already quarantined some suspect feather arrangements, rugs etc... since April. I can't tell for sure if these items have eggs so I have placed each item in a sealed trash bag with a Nuvan strip, sprayed with Precor 2625 and zip tied in the garage.

Nuvan ProStrips are not labeled for bird mites or use in the open spaces/rooms of the home/attic. We do recommend that you consult with your local cooperative extension office entomologist for a pest id/recommendations for those areas.
