OneGuard is not labeled for cicada control. There are very few products on the market labeled for cicadas as they do not usually cause significant economical impact. ProCare Bifen 7.9 is labeled for cicada control, though please note it will be limited.

    Q
    Will OneGuard kill lawn gnats?
We have a cabin in Wisconsin, and it has very sandy soil. we also have a big problem with biting Gnats even during the day hours. Will this product help control this problem?
    A

Gnats is a very general term used to describe a wide variety of small flying pests including fruit flies, drain flies, fungus gnats, no-see-ums, mosquitoes, etc. OneGuard is labeled for the many crawling and flying insects and could kill those gnats that contact a treated area long enough to get a lethal dose. Q
Holly damage after application of OneGuard Insecticide
On June 17th our yard was sprayed with OneGuard for mosquitoes. Yesterday July 5th one of our holly trees (40 ft) looks as if weed killer has been applied about 8 ft high. All foliage and berries to that height are in dire condition just like weeds look after weed killer has been applied. All other holly trees are fine but are of a different species. Where the spray didn't hit the tree still looks ok. Will it recover? Any info on this?
    A

We believe if the OneGuard Insecticide would have been at fault to cause the trees conditions it would have shown signs much sooner. Generally if a product causes damage it is due to heat damage of some kind. We would advise you speak to your local extension office in assistance determining what could have caused this and how to assist your tree.

    Q
My local landscaper says to use OneGuard Insecticide with Demand CS with backpack blower
    Stihl 200 insecticide blower
    A

We do not recommend mixing Demand CS to your solution of OneGuard because the latter already contains the adulticide active ingredient of lambda-cyhalothrin, which is the same active ingredient in Demand CS. OneGuard contains an adulticide, insect growth regulator, and a synergist all in one. An example combination of all these is mixing Demand CS along with ExciteR and Archer IGR.

    Q
How good is Oneguard compared to other products like Polyzone?
    A

OneGuard will only have a 60-90 day residual outdoors while Polyzone has a 90 day residual. They both have a broad label, but OneGuard aso has an IGR and synergist while Polyzone does not is just a residual insecticide.

    Q
Can OneGuard be used to treat mosquitoes as a perimeter barrier around my home? Is this applied with a conventional sprayer?
    A

Yes, OneGuard will need to be applied in a handpump or backpack sprayer. For mosquito control, application should be directed to the underside of leaves on trees and shrubs, under decks and eaves, and as a broadcast application to the lawn. Per the product label to treat mosquitoes, mix 1.0 fl. oz. to 2.0 fl. oz. per gallon or 1.0 fl. oz. to 2.0 fl. oz. in sufficient water to cover 1,000 sq. ft.

    Q
Do you recommend using a sticker with OneGuard for mosquito applications?
    A

You could potentially add a surfactant to OneGuard insecticide to help mitigate drift and get more even coverage if you wanted to. Be sure you are using a product which is labeled specifically for use with insecticides. You can browse our surfactants here.

  • Asked by John from Mt. Orab, Ohio
    03/10/2021
    Q
    Will OneGuard kill cicadas?
    A

While OneGuard is not directly labeled to kill or control cicadas, it could still harm them.  For cicada killer wasps, it is commonly recommended to use Delta Dust in each individual burrow. Cicada Killer wasps thrive in disturbed environments, such as landscaped yards and places where bare soil is exposed. You can discourage the wasps from nesting in your yard by cutting your grass on the highest setting and by adding a thick layer of mulch to flower beds during the Cicada Killer Wasp season. These wasps do not like over saturated lawns either, so over watering during their season will help prevent them. Unfortunately, there is no fool proof way to prevent cicada killer wasps.

We also like to let our customers know that the Cicada Killer wasps are beneficial insects that provide free pest control for a couple months each year. Cicada killer wasps paralyze and provision their burrows with other insects to feed their young.  The beneficial Cicada killer wasps, while large and intimidating to see, are mostly harmless and there have been very few reports of anyone getting stung by just being near them. In most cases where a sting was reported, the wasps were being held or molested in some way. Cicada Killer Wasp stings are also reported to be almost painless.
