Pendulum 2G is not labeled to be used around anything edible. We do carry 2 products labeled for use in vegetable gardens: Monterey Ornamental & Vegetable Weeder and Hi-Yield Herbicide Granules.
Since the label for Pendulum 2G does not indicate that it is safe to use on blue grama grasses, we cannot guarantee that this application would be safe. We recommend either testing a small area for tolerance first, or that you consult with a Master Gardener in your area for recommendations on what is safe to use on this plant.
Since Pendulum 2G Granular Herbicide is a pre-emergent, you should not apply it to newly seeded, sodded, or plugged grass until the new grass is well established.
Unfortunately we do not have the spreader settings for every make and model spreader used to apply Pendulum 2G Granular Herbicide. Refer to page 6 of the product label for the list provided by the manufacturer.
If your spreader is not listed on the product label and due to the thousands of granules on the market and just as many different types of spreaders, you will want to calibrate your spreader to the product you are using and its application rates.
Please refer to the How to Calibrate your Spreader Video for short demonstration on how to do this.
Yes, Pendulum 2G Granular Herbicide is a top pre-emergent product for Poa Annua (Annual Bluegrass). Fall applications should be applied when soil temperatures are below 70 degrees but before the first frost of the season. Spring applications should be applied as the weather warms but before soil temperatures reach 55 degrees.Depending on where you live and what your local climate is like, you could apply your spring treatment in February or March and your fall treatment in September or November.
Please review our How to Treat for Poa Annua Guide for more information.
Pendulum 2G Granular Herbicide can only be used in a spreader then watered in once applied. It cannot be used in a sprayer.
While these are both pre-emergent selective herbicides, the active ingredients are different and have some differences on where they can be applied. Casoron 4G uses the active ingredient Dichlobeni and Pendulum 2G Granular Herbicide usesthe active ingredient Pendimethalin. Pendulum 2G can be used for ornamental turf as Casaron 4G can not.
Pre emergents like Pendulum 2G Granular Herbicide should be applied in fall when soil temps drop below 70 degrees and continue to drop for winter weed contntrol. For spring/summer weeds, apply when soil temps average 50 degrees as most weeds begin germinating when the soil temperature is 55 - 60 degrees.
We would recommend contacting the master gardener at your local county extension office as they will be able to give you an exact time frame for applying this product in your area.
We also have our Warm Season Lawn Care Schedule for general timing recommendations.
Pendulum 2G Granular Herbicide will inhibit grass seed germination therefore should be applied at the same time as planting new grass seed or overseeding. This pre emergent should only be used on well-established turf grass with a dense and uniform stand.
Per the product label, when applying on newly planted areas, application should not be made until the turf grass has filled in and has been mowed at least four times. On turf that has been thinned or damaged due to winter injury, excessive moisture, etc., allow for turf recovery prior to making an application.
Delay reseeding or winter overseeding of treated turf grass for at least 3 months following the last Pendulum 2G application.
In spring, pre emergents should be applied when soil temperatures are around or just under 55 degrees (February/March). Fall applications should be applied when soil temps drop below 70 degrees but before the first frost of the season(Septemeber or November).
For exact timing recommendations in your area, we would suggest contacting the Master Gardener with the County Cooperative Extension office as they will be able to give you an exact time frame for applying this product in your area.
Unfortunately, we do not have the spreader settings for Pendulum 2G Granular Herbicide, and your spreader and the manufacturer does not list that spreader on their bag. Due to the thousands of granules on the market and just as many different types of spreaders, you will want to calibrate your spreader to the product you are using and its application rates. You can see a short video on how to accomplish this below.
Please view our video on How to Calibrate your Spreader for more information.

Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) would be an alternative pre emergent that is a wettable dispersable granule for tank sprayer applications. View the full Prodiamine product label for more information.
