Pendulum 2G is a pre-emergent herbicide used to prevent more than 40 annual grassy and broadleaf weeds from germinating in established turfgrass, ornamental landscapes, and other labeled areas. Its active ingredient, 2% pendimethalin, creates a residual barrier in the soil that controls susceptible weeds as they begin to grow.
Pendulum 2G provides pre-emergent control of annual grasses and broadleaf weeds, including:
Pendulum 2G controls susceptible weeds before they emerge but will not kill weeds that are already established. Consult the product label for the complete list of controlled weeds.
Apply Pendulum 2G before target weeds germinate. For summer annual weeds such as crabgrass and goosegrass, apply in the spring before germination begins. For winter annual weeds such as henbit, chickweed, lawn burweed, and annual bluegrass, apply in late summer or early fall before germination.
Exact timing varies by climate and soil temperature, so your local cooperative extension office can provide more precise application windows for your area. Pendulum 2G will not control weeds that have already emerged.

Do not apply Pendulum 2G in greenhouses, shadehouses, or other enclosed structures. Use around ornamental plants only as permitted by the label.
For residential turfgrass, the labeled application rate is generally 75 to 100 pounds per acre, equivalent to approximately 1.7 to 2.3 pounds per 1,000 square feet. Do not exceed 100 pounds per acre in a single application on residential turf.

Residual control depends on the application rate, treatment site, weather, and weed pressure. For ornamental landscapes and grounds-maintenance areas, the label lists approximately:
Turfgrass programs use different rates and may call for a repeat application after 5 to 8 weeks for extended control or heavy weed pressure. Follow the program specifically listed for your turfgrass and target weed rather than using the ornamental application rates on a residential lawn.
Many turf programs include a spring application and a late-summer or early-fall application to prevent different seasonal weeds. A second application 5 to 8 weeks after the initial treatment may be permitted for extended control or heavy infestations, depending on the turfgrass and target weed.
Application frequency should be based on the product label rather than a fixed number of treatments per year. Do not exceed the labeled rate or application limits for the treatment site.
Pendulum 2G can be used in established ornamental flower beds containing plants listed on the label. However, it must not be applied to tomatoes, vegetables, herbs, fruit-bearing plants, or other plants grown for food or animal feed.
The label permits applications around certain nonbearing fruit and nut trees and vines, but treated plants must not be used for food or feed. Do not allow granules to enter an adjacent vegetable garden.

Buffalograss is specifically listed on the label, but blue grama is not. Do not apply Pendulum 2G to an unlisted turfgrass unless its use is permitted by the product label.
Use a properly calibrated broadcast or drop spreader to distribute the granules evenly over the treatment area. Avoid skips and overlapping passes, since uneven application can reduce weed control or injure desirable plants.
After application, activate Pendulum 2G with approximately 1/2 inch of rainfall or sprinkler irrigation. Avoid allowing granules to contact driveways, sidewalks, stone, wood, or other porous surfaces, and sweep away spilled granules immediately to help prevent staining.
Spreader settings vary by spreader model, walking speed, and product rate, so a universal setting cannot be provided for every machine. Calibrate the spreader by measuring the amount required for a known area, beginning with a medium setting, and adjusting until the correct amount is distributed evenly.
For example, if the selected rate is 2.3 pounds per 1,000 square feet, place that amount in the spreader and apply it over a measured 1,000-square-foot test area. If granules remain, increase the setting slightly; if the product runs out too soon, reduce the setting.
Yes. Pendulum 2G works best when followed by approximately 1/2 inch of rainfall or sprinkler irrigation, which moves the active ingredient into the soil and establishes the pre-emergent barrier. If the product is not activated by rainfall or irrigation within 30 days, weed control may be inconsistent.
Pendulum 2G may be mixed with a compatible dry fertilizer and applied at the same time, provided both products can be applied uniformly at their labeled rates. Do not use Pendulum 2G to prepare a custom herbicide-fertilizer blend unless the mixing and application comply with all product-label directions.
Fertilizer may also be applied separately if preferred. Base fertilizer timing on the nutritional needs of the turfgrass rather than assuming it must accompany the pre-emergent application.
Pendulum 2G can prevent desirable grass seed from germinating along with weed seeds. Wait at least three months after the final application before reseeding or winter overseeding treated turfgrass, and wait five months before sprigging.
On newly planted turf, do not apply until the grass has filled in and has been mowed at least four times. Allow thin, damaged, or stressed turf to recover before treatment.

Can the rating be less than 5 stars? I got what I asked for, (2) 40# bags of Pendulum 2G shipped clear across this great nation of ours in less than a weeks time FOR FREE! Is that something to complain about??? I didn't think so either. By the way Pendulum is a great product, has been for years. I could go down to my local landscape supplier and buy the exact same thing for $50 more. This way I sit on my porch and watch the UPS guy carry it up to me. I haven't trained him how to spread it yet.

I make two 50% applications. That is, I spread 50% of the recommended volume over 1 acre in the late fall (Oct / Nov) then in the early spring (Feb / Mar) I spread the other 50% recommended volume (actually I cut back on the second application 10%) it works so well for so cheep I almost felt like the IRS was going to get me for saving my money and still getting a great deal. My confession is, this is my second review. The first one was for "Do My Own PestControl" they do such a great job.

Best stuff for sandburs!

I have used the liquid form of this chemical before for sandburs and it is phenomenal! The liquid was very messy and stained everything yellow---me, the cement if spilled, and all parts of the sprayer equipment. The granules were much, much easier to apply, had no odor, and did not stain, but the granules are yellow and easy to see. I will have to wait to see if they work as well, but I have no doubts.

Shipped and received in good order. The herbicide is labeled to help control Poa Anna. I've got a hell of an infestation, both annual and perennial. Put the herbicide down too late in April, might fault, and, not unexpectedly, still have a healthy stand of Poa in the tall fescue that I planted in the spring of 2010. Hope it works to kill the millions of seeds that are being produced by the current infestation and that I'll have a semi-poa-free soil so that I can overseed this fall (used the lower 4-month rate). We'll see. By the way, a setting of about 6 on a Ortho Speedy Green drop spreader will give pretty close to the recommended rates of Pendulum 2G.

service from these folks was great - but, applied this product as soon as the snow melted here in north Jersey (end of March) - at the proper rate - and the crabgrass is as healthy as ever - contacted DMOPC and was advised that a fall application is probably needed as well - and if I wanted something stronger to try Dimension 2EW - I will take their advice and try that this fall - and again in the spring - and see what next year's crop looks like - I will say that Pendulum has eliminated just about every other weed - especially the dandelions

Pendulum 2G is a pre-emergent and would normally be put down in early March to late April before the weeds have germinated. This will depend on the area that you reside.

We don't carry that particular model spreader, so we are not sure what the exact settings would be. The easiest way to determine the correct setting for you needs is outlined below:
If you need to use 3.6lbs of product per 1,000 sq ft you would add 3.6 lb of product to spreader, start with a medium setting, then apply product to a 20 x 50 ft area (1,000 sq ft). If you have product left, your setting is too low. If you run out of product, your setting is too high.
