Pennington Fast Acting Lime will only start to work when it is activated by water, and should be watered in within a day or two of applying the product.
If the label of Pennington Fast Acting Lime does not list a setting for your particular spreader, we recommend to calibrate your spreader as recommended on this video
Pennington Fast Acting Lime is used to fix low PH in the soil. That could not be likely the source of bad odor. If you have odor issue it could be bad soil , drainage problems, fungus, or animal excrement.
We would recommend spraying Pennington Fast Acting Lime at least 10 feet away from a well since it could contaminate the water.
We recommend following the specific product label instructions as the rates and instructions are based of research and testing from the manufacturer.
Pennington Fast Acting Lime is not going to provide alot of coverage to treat one acre so you will need multiple bags and should apply atleast once in the fall, once in the winter and once in the spring. Periodic pH readings of your soil should be done also to keep an eye on your pH levels.
Austinville Limestone Pelletized Dolomitic Limestone Pellets would be an alternative option even though may work a bit slower, would provide more coverage of the size area you are treating.
You can refer to the manufacturer's product label for listed spreader settings for applying Pennington Fast Acting Lime. If your specific spreader is not included on the product label linked above, you can refer to our helpful video on How to Calibrate a Lawn Spreader.
Pennington Fast Acting Lime is only used for raising the pH level in soil, it will not eliminate odors. For outside areas to help eliminate odors you may try baking soda over the area or best option remove the soil and completely replace.
Per the product label for Pennington Fast Acting Lime, for lawns with a pH lower than 5.0, you should use 120 lbs per 5,000 sq ft to get to a desirable pH between 6.8 and 7.2.
Since 24 lbs per 1000 sq ft is a lot of product to use at once, most customers will break that up into multiple applications of about 6 lbs per 1000 sq ft at a time.
While the Pennington Fast Acting Lime can start to work in your soil quickly, keep in mind that you may need multiple seasons and additional dolomitic lime to get soil pH closer to your desired reading.
The product label for Pennington Fast Acting Lime does recommend the 4 setting if using the Scotts Spreader Deluxe so you could possibly need to shake the contents in the spreader if these are getting stuck, or try a 1/2 or 1 setting larger.
If this does not resolve the clogging, then we would recommend contacting Scotts directly for more troubleshooting at 888-270-3714.
Unfortunately, we do not have the spreader settings for Pennington Fast Acting Lime and the manufacturer does not list that spreader on their bag. Due to the thousands of granules on the market and just as many different types of spreaders, you will want to calibrate your spreader to the product you are using and its application rates. You can see a short video on how to accomplish this below.
