Since powdery mildew has a recognizable appearance, it's easy to
identify, and it will be even easier when you know where and what time of year to look for this turf disease.
Powdery mildew thrives areas with high humidity, low air circulation, low light intensity, and cooler temperatures. The first signs of powdery mildew will appear in areas with these characteristics, usually in shady areas that don't get much sunlight or air circulation, like near buildings, under overhangs, etc.
Periods of high humidity combined with cloudy skies creates a great environment for powdery mildew to grow and thrive. When this type of weather is expected, be sure to inspect your lawn for this disease, especially in shaded areas.
