    Q
How long should I wait to sow grass seed after using Prodiamine 65 WDG?
    A

Prodiamine 65 WDG will inhibit the development of turfgrass species overseeded too soon after application.  It will depend upon the rate of product used per acre as to how many months you need to wait before reseeding.  At the minimum use rate, you need to wait 4 months before reseeding. Please refer to the product label for complete instructions on reseeding.

  • Asked by James from New Haven, Ct
    03/29/2019
    Q
When is the best time to apply Tenacity?
If I were to apply Prodiamine now (end of March), would that prevent crabgrass germination not expected until May as well as allow me to overseed four months from now (end of July)? Or would it be more effective as a crabgrass control if it were applied closer to expected germination season?
    A

Tenacity Herbicide should be applied before soil temperatures reach 55 degrees if using as a pre-emergent.  If as a post you would apply when the target weeds are actively growing and healthy. When used at the lowest rates, you can overseed beginning 4 months after application of Prodiamine 65 WDG.  Please see the product label beginning on pg. 13 for complete instructions on overseeding.

    Q
It says Resolute is cheaper, but it's not. What's the difference between the two?
    A
We apologize, with market pricing the price does fluctuate. Thank you for bringing this to our attention as we are updating our site. The difference is that Prodiamine is considered the generic.

    Q
Will Prodiamine 65 WDG affect newly seeded areas of the lawn?
I plan to do some spot seeding to repair some thin areas in my lawn. Should I avoid using Prodiamine 65 WDG in those areas. I may be spot seeding around the same time as a Fall pre emergent weed application.
    A

Yes, it is a possiblility that Prodiamine 65 WDG could cause injury to desirable seedlings. Per product label you want to wait 60 days or until after the second mowing, whichever is longer, before applying the product.

  • Asked by Greg from Austin, Tx
    07/31/2017
    Q
Does Prodiamine 65 WDG prevent nutsedge?
Does this prevent nutsedge from growing (yellow or purple)?
    A

Nutsedge is a summer weed that is hard to control using a pre emergent such as Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade).  Nutsedge is controlled after emergence in cool and warm season turf grasses such as St. Augustinegrass, Bermudagrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, tall and fine fescue, and perennial ryegrass. Sedgehammer is considered one of the more "gentle to turfgrass" products and the most widely used for controlling both yellow and purple nutsedge.

  • Asked by Rock from Va
    03/07/2017
    Q
Can I apply Prodiamine 65 WDG before a snowstorm?
Getting a late winter/early spring snow. Can Prodiamine be laid down before a Snow Storm in lieu of watering in?
    A

You can, but ideally, Prodiamine 65 WDG should be watered in within 7 days of application, so unless the snow melts within that time it would be best to go ahead and water in 1/2 inch after application.

    Q
Can Prodiamine be mixed with Roundup?
    A

Yes, Prodiamine 65 WDG can be mixed with Roundup as long as the mixing instructions on each product label are followed.  Keep in mind that Roundup products are nonselective, so they will kill just about anything they are applied to.

  • Asked by Rome from Atlanta, Ga
    09/13/2017
    Q
What the best pre-emergent to kill a variety of weeds in Centipede grass?
I live in Atlanta Ga . Want to kill crabgrass in centipede lawn
    A

Prodiamine 65 is a great crabgrass and general broadleaf weed preventative product. For crabgrass your main application for prevention will be in the spring when it germinates. You are welcome to do a fall application now for other weeds, too, but you will want to get it down before Oct 1st, ideally, in our southern region. Keep in mind that pre-emergents will not do anything to the crabgrass currently growing in your lawn: you would need a post-emergent product for eliminating those.

  • Asked by Bet from Roscoe
    10/04/2016
    Q
Which would work better when targeting Poa Annua, Prodiamine 65 WDG or Tenacity?
    Can both be used?
    A

Both Prodiamine 65 WDG and Tenacity Herbicide are labeled for Poa Annua. Prodiamine 65 WDG should be able to better control Poa Annua, just follow the label instructions. Make sure the product is labeled to be tolerated by your turf and check for the best time for application with your local Cooperative Exntension Office.

  • Asked by Todd from Cooksville, Il
    05/19/2018
    Q
How long do you have to get Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) watered in?
I applied with hopes of rain but it did not rain.
    A

? Prodiamine ? should be applied prior to a rainfall. It is important to irrigate the area after the product has been applied to activate it. Pre-emergents need to reach the thatch area to prevent the weeds from germinating, so irrigation is very important as soon as possible.

    Q
How soon can I mow after spraying Prodiamine 65 WDG?
I applied three days ago and had a very light rain
    A

There are no set restrictions regarding mowing when using Prodiamine 65 WDG. However, we would recommend to wait at least 2 days before and after application to mow in order to reduce stress on desirable turf, and to avoid disturbance of your application.

  • Asked by Erin from Herndon, Va
    07/22/2016
    Q
Is Prodiamine 65WDG-generic as good as Barricade 65 WDG?
I'm glad for the lower cost but does the Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) work as well as the Barricade 65WDG herbicide for $169? Why such a difference in price? Thank you
    A

Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) would be just as effective as the Barricade 65WDG.  They just have different manufacturers, otherwise the active ingredients and instructions are the same.  Pricing can vary on products as after the patent on a product expires other companies can then manufacturer the product and do not have to charge as much since the research, patents, marketing etc. was already done by the original manufacturer.  You can think of it as the "brand" vs "generic".

  • Asked by Sue from Or
    04/23/2013
    Q
    Will Prodiamine kill dandelions?
I don't see dandelions on the label, but the product Weed Impede that contains prodiamine shows a picture of dandelions on the label.
    A
Prodiamine is not labeled for Dandelions, so it is safe to say it will not kill them. You may want to look into Dimension 2EW. It is a pre emergent like Prodiamine, but is labeled for Dandelion and many other types of broadleaf weeds. Just make sure to check the label to verify it is safe for use in your type of lawn.

    Q
I just laid down new sod, how long do I have to wait to apply Prodiamine 65 WDG to lawn?
Not the whole back yard as new sod only in spots.
    A

Per the Prodiamine 65 WDG product label,  "To avoid turfgrass injury, do not apply to newly set sod until the sod has rooted and exposed edges have filled in. This time frame could be anywhere between 8-16 weeks depending on root and turf establishment speed".

    Q
Do you need to use a surfactant with Prodiamine 65 WDG ? If not, does the rate change?
    A

When using a pre-emergent such as Prodiamine 65 WDG, a surfactant is not needed. Only when you are using it as a post-emergent. The mixing ratio of the product with water will not change if you are adding a surfactant. Please review the product label for application instructions.
