    Q
Do you need to use a surfactant with Prodiamine 65 WDG ? If not, does the rate change?
    A

When using a pre-emergent such as Prodiamine 65 WDG, a surfactant is not needed. Only when you are using it as a post-emergent. The mixing ratio of the product with water will not change if you are adding a surfactant. Please review the product label for application instructions.

    Q
Does the 1/2 inch of water need to be applied at once after using Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade)?
I put down my application before expected rain earlier this week, however we only got about 1/10 of an inch. More rain is expected in a few days. Is it ok to wait for that rain or should the entire 1/2 inch of watering in occurred at the same time?? Thanks!
    A

Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) should be watered in within 7-10 days of application for best results.

    Q
Do I have to reapply Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade), if it rains?
I applied Prodiamine 65 WDG the day before a light rain shower was forecast. What we received was almost 2" of rain, some heavy at times. My home is on a slight incline and I'm afraid it washed away.
    A

As long as the application of Prodiamine 65 WDG has had at least 24 hours without rain, there isn’t a need to reapply. We would recommend delaying the application if you’re expecting more than 1 inch of rain.

    Q
Is Prodiamine 65 WDG only effective as a pre-emergent?
Is Prodiamine application effective only during seedling germination in late winter/early spring? And how many times can I apply it before it becomes noneffective?
    A

Prodiamine 65 WDG is only a pre-emergent product and will only stop seeds from germinating. There are maximum rate that can be used per year so we would recommend checking the label with regards to what type of turf grass you have.

    Q
How much area will Prodiamine 65 WDG 5 lbs product cover?
I have Bermuda grass and want to know how much area will this 5 gallon product cover.
    A

The amount of area Prodiamine 65 WDG will cover depends on the rate you use per acre. The rate for bermudagrass is 1-2.3 lbs per acre. If you use the product at the low rate, you will be able to treat 5 acres. At the higher rate, you will be able to treat about 2.5 acres.

  • Asked by Anthony from Lancaster, Tx

    Q
How long after it rains do you have to wait to apply Prodiamine?
Can a pesticide be added to the mix?
    A

Prodiamine should not be applied during rain. It is preferred to apply prior to a rainfall or wait 24 hours following a rainfall. Be sure to irrigate the area after the product has been applied to activate it. Pre-emergents need to reach the thatch area to prevent the weeds from germinating, so irrigation is very important.

    Q
Will Prodiamine 65 WDG be effective to prevent weeds in rock gardens?
    A

Yes Prodiamine 65 WDG would be a great product to use as a pre-emergent in rock bed areas, you would just need to use a higher water volume to ensure the product gets past the rock to the soil beneath it where the seeds would be germinating.

  • Asked by Jack from Beacon, Ny
    12/18/2019
    Q
Is water the primary way Prodiamine 65 WDG breaks down in a lawn?
If so, with all the moisture over the winter and early spring, could the lawn be reseeded in the Spring, as all the melted snow & rain would have washed the Prodiamine away enough? I put Prodiamine 65 WDG on a lawn in the Fall in New York State. During the Winter, there will be a lot of snow & rain.
    A

Herbicides such as Prodiamine will break down in the soil over time, and excess rainfall can increase how quickly that process happens. Ideally, Prodiamine 65 WDG should be watered in within 7 days of application, so unless the snow melts within that time it would be best to go ahead and water in 1/2 inch after application. Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) should not need to be reapplied after snow.  More water in the area would just get it into the ground better.

Prodiamine 65 WDG will inhibit the development of turfgrass species overseeded too soon after application.  It will depend upon the rate of product used per acre as to how many months you need to wait before reseeding.  At the minimum use rate, you need to wait 4 months before reseeding. Please refer to the product label for complete instructions on reseeding.

    Q
What is the correct rate to apply Prodiamine 65 WDG to St Augustine grass?
On the label it says to apply 0.83 oz. max per year for St Augustine grass for 1000 sq. ft. If I want to apply the product 3 times per year do I simply apply at a rate of 0.28 oz for 1000 sq.ft. for the 3 applications?
    A

Yes, that is exactly right.  Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) would be applied at the rate of 0.28 oz per 1000 sq. ft. if you want to make 3 applications.

  • Asked by Blaine from Henderson, Tx

    Q
At what rate and when do I apply Prodiamine 65 WDG for poa annua in the fall and crabgrass in the spring?
I have 3/4 acres of burmuda in East Texas. Whats the best rate to use and how many applications, how often. Thanks!
    A

On Bermuda grass you can use up to 2.3 lbs of Prodiamine 65 WDG per Acre per year, which breaks down to 0.83 oz per 1000 sq ft. You can split up this amount into as many applications as needed. So if you are doing applications in Spring and in Fall, then your maximum rate at those times is 1.15 lbs/A (0.415 oz/1000 sq ft). You want to apply in late Summer or early Fall before soil temperatures dip below 70 degrees for poa annua prevention. In late Winter/early Spring, apply before soil temperatures reach 55 degrees to prevent crabgrass. In a warm place like Texas, you wil probably want one applcation in late Feb or March and then a second application 6-8 weeks later. If you are doing this, then you would lower that Spring rate to 0.2 oz per 1000 sq ft.

You can use this online tool to check soil temperatures for your area at any time.

  • Asked by C. from Cincinnati Oh

    Q
Can you plant flowers in beds after using Prodiamine 65 WDG? (Not seeds but plants already blooming?)
I bought this mainly for the rocky area of landscaping around pool where I don't want anything to grow, but if I use it in mulch areas where no plants can I later plant a few flowers or would they die off? Since it specifies things can't germinate I'd imagine flowers are okay after, but wanted to be sure. And if so, should I apply some extra after planing since I would be disturbing the soil "barrier"? Since our winter has been so mild, I also planned on applying earlier than the date on the label since some agricultural websites suggest before Mar 15.... and then I could put another round down in May- does that sound right? Thank you!!
    A

If you are going to be planting in the area you would like to use Prodiamine 65 WDG it would be best to plant first then apply the product so that you are not disturbing the barrier in the soil but applying before planting.  It will only prevent seeds from germinating and is actually labeled to be used in landscape planting.  The label states: Delay application to newly transplanted ornamentals until soil has settled around transplants.
