5 of 5 stars  Excellent Product for Preventing Crabgrass Emergence
By Chad in Minot, ND on 05/20/2013
    Verified Purchase

I purchased this product a few weeks ago in half gallon jug. My yard is about 18,000 square feet of grass. Had a big problem with crabgrass infestation every year. Through research, I discovered that crabgrass seeds germinate in the spring when soil temps reach about 50 degrees. I monitored soil temps via a local university agriculture website. When soil temps at 2 inches deep got near 50 degrees I applied Dimension. I measured out 3000 square foot areas and applied the product using a pump sprayer. I put about 5 teaspoons in a gallon of water. One gallon of water seemed to be the right amount to cover the 3000 square foot area. Turned on my sprinklers and made sure each area got a 1/2 inch of watering. I placed a 9x13 pan in each area and watered until the pan had 1/2 inch in it. Days later my crab grass areas are bare with beautiful green desirable grass surrounding. I plan to fertilize over Memorial Day weekend in order to promote desirable grass to spread to the bare areas. Remember this product prevents seed germination, so you must apply before crabgrass emerges and not after.

It hasn't yet prevented anything and didn't kill anything that was there...........don't buy this product.

    Expert Response   Expert response:
This product does not kill anything that is currently there, because it is a pre-emergent.  It will only prevent weed seeds from germinating.  If something appears after using this product, then it was not applied soon enough and the weeds already germinated.

By C.r. in Stevinson, CA on 02/20/2011

Dimension is an excellent pre-emergent herbicide. We have had no weeds since putting it down. I would recommend it for farmers that need ultimate weed control for roads, driveways, or other ultimate control areas. DoMyOwnPestControl.com has the best price on the net. I have found them to be excellent and the products you see are actually the products that arrive.

5 of 5 stars  Crabgrass control
By Jack in Kansas City, MO on 05/28/2012
    Verified Purchase

I have wrestled with a vigorous crabgrass invasion and 'Dimension' has exceeded all expectations in controlling this. I estimate a 98% eradication of any new crabgrass seedlings and am left with the best looking bare areas I could wish for. I believe two key steps made this so successful. The first is I made split applications with 8 oz/25 gal tank of water applied in early April (Mid-west), which was followed with a 0.3 inch rainfall. A second application four weeks later was followed with 1.1 inches of rain. When I use Dimension again next year I will dilute even further so more water is used in each application. In total I have treated approx two acres and gained excellent control of crabgrass. Roundup has taken care of those mechanical escapes.

4 of 5 stars  Works great but don't save any for next year
By Randy in Browns Summit N.C. on 03/08/2015
    Verified Purchase

Pretty aggravated today. Used this last year and it worked great. I had 3/4 gallon left over and tried to use it this year. Something falls out of suspension, likely the active ingredient but I don't know. And, there is no amount of shaking that will mix it back up. I used it anyway having to stop every fifty feet to clean the filter in the tank. So, if you buy it use it.

April 20, ‘18 I just received the Dimension half gal jug. Obviously this is not the right time of year to put down premergent so I have not used it yet, planning on putting it down come fall in North Texas. Regarding packing of this item is absolutely vital since it is chemical, liquid. Very well packaged taking care to pack in bubble wrap. Fast shipping. Let me think what else? Oh yes, very nice and helpful a lady whose name I think is Nicole. I will update this review come next spring to let my satisfaction be known (I am hoping) GOOD JOB DOMYOWN.com

They have good prices, and shipping was free and very fast! Ordering was very simple. The bottle was also properly shipped, considering it is a chemical.

By Rex in ozark AR on 02/01/2018

My research said this is wonderful for crabgrass control. This is my third year for it. I think it does a good job for crabgrass so just ordered more because i think it works. Use 2 treatment steps use 1 ounce for 3000 sq feet. Will apply in Feb and another in mid April. Don't know about weed control but think its mainly for grasses. I am giving this review because i ordered 2 weeks ago then found it is on sale right now Feb 1 contacted on internet and they gave me a 10% credit on my account since it was on sale when I ordered it. That is good customer relation. This is a good company to work with. I ordered on a Thursday and had it on Tuesday next. Their prices are good but they do ask a lot more for Eraser than I can buy local but everything else seems to be good and most isn't available locally . I will continue to do business with them. Their web sight works better than anything else I use.

By Al in Okc on 03/17/2017

I think I put this out too late as my weeds are not dying off. I'm sure my results would be better if I had applied it earlier in the season. All the other products I've gotten from here have been outstanding. I'll apply another dose and see what happens, I won't be late next season.

QCan this product be used with Ortho Dial n Spray and at what dial setting per gallon of water?
How many oz., tsp, or tbls per gallon of water? This is to treat annual bluegrass and crabgrass. Thanks

AYou can use a hose end sprayer to apply this product, but we are not familiar with the Ortho model so we do not know what specifics to give you.  As far as application rates, we wish it was that easy.  Bluegrass and Crabgrass require slightly different treatments and also depend on where you live and what grass you have currently that you are trying keep them out of, which you did not state.  Also, herbicides do not give a water amount.  They only tell you how much of the product to apply over 1000 square feet.  The amount of water is dependent on how ever much water it takes for you to walk 1000 square feet.  Whether you place the amount of product per 1000 square feet in a gallon of water or 10 gallons of water, it does not matter, just as long as that amount of product is distributed over the 1000 square feet.  Since you are treating two different types of grasses, we recommend calling the manufacturer since they are the experts on their own product and could probably give you a more definitive answer than we can.  They should also be able to better help you with the settings on your hose end sprayer.  The manufacturer is Dow Agro and you can reach them at 1-317-337-3000.

QRatio product to water when using Dimension.

A

Herbicides are a lot different than other concentrated products and can be hard to understand at first. The application rate depends on the the type of turf you have and how quickly you apply the product.  You will need to read the product label to determine the correct usage rate for your needs (you did not give us any information about the type of lawn, region or application program you will be using so we cannot give you exact rates). The amount of water used to apply Dimension herbicide is not critical, but should be sufficient for uniform coverage of the target area. Calibrate by determining the volume of water required to treat 1,000 square feet. Use this calibration volume to determine the amount of water and Dimension herbicide needed to treat the target area (see the following calibration example). Note: Sprayer calibration (volume of spray needed to treat 1,000 square feet) will vary with each individual operator.

Steps in Calibration:
1. Mark an area of 1,000 square feet (i.e. 20 by 50 feet or 25 by 40 feet).
2. Place the sprayer on a level surface and add water noting the final level of water in the spray tank.
3. Spray the marked area with a sufficient volume of water to provide uniform coverage. Refill the sprayer to the same level as before measuring the amount of water added. The measured water added to the sprayer is the volume needed to cover 1,000 square feet.
4. Determine the application rate (0.073- .55 fl. oz./1,000 sq. ft.) for Dimension from the Recommendations section of this label.
5. To each volume of water used as measured in step 3, add the amount of Dimension as determined in step 4.

Example: If the sprayer uses 1 gallons of water to cover 1,000 square feet and the desired application rate of Dimension is .55 fluid oz./1,000 square feet, then you would add .55 fluid ounces of Dimension to every 1 gallon of water to be used."

QOnce applied, how long after applying Dimension can we leave the pets outside on the lawn?

AAs soon as Dimension 2EW has dried on the lawn it is safe to allow pets back on the lawn.  This depends on how hot it is, but most of the time 1 hour is plenty long enough for the solution to dry.

AYou will use .33 - .73 of an ounce of Dimension 2EW per 1,000 sq ft. The exact usage rate will depend on your location and the application program you choose. Please refer to pages 4-6 of the product label to find the exact usage rate for your needs.

QCan you recommend a product that will kill mulberry weed without harming gardenias?
Mulberry weed growing under my miniature gardenias, and it is really too much to pick. I need a product that will kill the mulberry weed without harming gardenias.

A

Mulberry weed is an annual weed and can be prevented with the proper timing of pre-emergent chemical. The best pre-emergent for broadleaf weeds is dithiopyr such as Dimension 2EW. It should be applied in late March and again in mid-May. If you have a huge mulberry weed population, you can make a third application in early July.

Spot treating with something like Hi-Yield 2,4-D and/or a glyphosate based product will kill mulberry weed but care should be taken to avoid contact/drift with the gardenias as they could be injured as well.

Key is to kill or pull the weed before it drops the seeds, which the plant does a few weeks after germination.  There is an article by UGA here that might help.

QCan Dimension 2EW Herbicide be applied in late spring/early summer?
Having near 90 degree weather every day.

A

Dimension 2EW Herbicide should be applied when the soil temperature is at least 55 degrees Fahrenheit. This is generally done in early to mid March through the beginning of April depending on the temperature.

QHow hot is too hot to spray Dimension 2EW Herbicide?
I wanted to spray a late spring early summer pre-emergent.... I forgot to spray one early in the season but wanted something to protect through sept or oct but I live in Phoenix and this week, end of May will be 100-102 degrees. Is it still safe or smart to put down a pre-emergent?

A

Dimension 2EW is a pre-emergent herbicide, so it is best applied before soil temperatures reach those that are optimal for the weeds you are targeting. This is generally before soil temperatures reach 55 degrees in the Spring. You should not apply when there is snow on the ground or temperatures are below freezing. In the Fall, you would want to apply before soil temperatures cool to those favorable for these weeds, usually below 70 degrees. We recommend contacting your local Cooperative Extension for the best recommendation on timing in your area. Over 100 degree weather will be too hot/late to apply a pre-emergent.

QCan I use Dimension 2EW to prevent Nutsege before installing sod?
We have a nutsege infestation in new sod planted over infested 3 way soil. We are going to remove the sod and 3 way under it. Can we spray Dimension on the soil to prevent new nutsege from growing before installing new sod?

A

Dimension 2EW is one of the best pre-emergents we carry, but it’s not labeled to prevent Nutsedge. We do carry a product that is labeled for that called Echelon 4SC Herbicide, but according to the label, it is recommended that sod be established for at least six (6) months before an application of Echelon 4SC Herbicide.

QCan I still dethatch after my lawn service applied Dimension before I could do it?

A

It is always best to perform any type of maintenance such as dethatching before you put down a pre-emergent like Dimension so that you do not interrupt the barrier and, therefore, get inconsistent weed control. You could potentially dethatch with a hand rake after watering in the Dimension application with at least 1/2 inch of water. Allow that watering to dry completely before dethatching.

QHow soon can I apply Dimension Herbicide?

A

Dimension is best applied just before temperatures are suitable for weed seed germination. For crabgrass, this is when soil temperatures are about 55 degrees F. You will need to check your local weather forecast for a time when you will have several warm days in a row so that you can apply before that time for best results. You can usually check local soil temperatures online, too. You should not apply Dimension or other pre-emergents if the ground is frozen, if there is snow or ice on the ground, or if the ground is already saturated from rainfall.
