    Q
Will this product kill sand burrs?
    A

Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) is not labeled for sandbur, and we cannot guarantee any results for this weed using this product. It is only a pre-emergent, used to prevent weeds from emerging. It will not kill anything that is actively growing.  Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension is a very popular pre-emergent herbicide for sandbur. Be sure to check the product label to be sure it is safe to use on your turfgrass. If you are trying to kill existing sandbur, you can browse our post-emergent herbicides for this weed here.

  • Asked by Greg from Philadelphia, Tn

    Q
    Is it safe for pets?
I saw the answer that after this product is dry it is safe for pets. I kept pets off the yard for 24 hours. The lawn is completely dry but why do white dogs have a yellow stain from the product on them? Is that normal? Is that safe? Should I wait until the product is watered in before letting them back on?
    A

Prodiamine 65 WDG is a water-dispersible granule that should be mixed with water and applied with a pump sprayer.  Weed control is most effective when Prodiamine 65WDG is activated by at least 0.5 inches of rainfall or irrigation or shallow incorporation (1 to 2 inches) before weed seeds germinate and within 14 days following application.  Yes, water the product in and then wait until your turf is completely dry before allowing pets onto the lawn.

Can I use prodiamine on established flower beds?
I will be using it on dwarf knock-out roses, dwarf boxwoods, lantana, ornamental grasses, etc. I have about a full 1/2 or more flower beds around the house, pool, and yard. I am in the middle of Alabama.
    A

Prodiamine 65 WDG is labeled to be used around ornamentals including Japanese boxwoods and lantana, however, it is not labeled to be used around roses.  This should only be applied around established ornamentals. Please review the label for more information.

  • Asked by Gary from Granite City Il.

    Q
How many pounds of this product should I use in a 25-gallon tow behind a boom sprayer?
I will be using a 25-gallon tow behind boom sprayer I need to know how much of this product to add to 25 gallons of water.
    A

Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) should be applied at the rates specified on the table located on page 9 of the manufacturer's product label based on your grass type with sufficient water to obtain even coverage.  You will likely need to calibrate your sprayer to determine how much area it covers before your application.  As water is only the carrier of the product, the amount of water will vary depending on how much water it takes to cover your treatment area with your equipment.  You can watch our video on How to Calibrate a Lawn Care Sprayer to learn how to determine the amount of water you will need for your specific type of sprayer.

    Q
How long does it take to dry in wet, colder climates for reentry?
I know reentry is not until the product dries, but I am spraying before the rain as we are in February and it's colder (longer to dry). How long should I wait to allow my pets back on the grass?
    A

Drying time varies for the Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade), but it will dry at the same rate water does. It can typically take 2 hours to dry. Once it is dried, it will be safe even if it rains and rewets it.

  • Asked by Jeff from Grandville
    09/05/2022
    Q
May I put down two applications of prodiamine this fall, when ground temps are near 70 degrees?
and then when ground temps are near 50 degrees for post-emergent?
    A

Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) is a pre-emergent herbicide only, so it will not kill any existing weeds like a post emergent does. You should be applying pre-emergent in early Spring before soil temps reach 55 degrees for weed prevention, and then in late Summer/Fall as temperatures drop before they reach about 60 degrees.

The application timing of Prodiamine 65 WDG will vary according to your specific region. We recommend contacting your county extension office to confirm the right application timing for your area. You may also look over our Lawn Care Schedule on our site with general time frames.

    Q
Does Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) get rid of existing crabgrass?
    A

Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) is a pre-emergent so it will only stop future crabgrass seeds from germinating (timing is key in your area). If you are looking for something to kill existing crabgrass then you will need a post-emergent. Keep in mind that it may be too late to apply for a post due to the tiller stage of the crabgrass. The higher the tiller stage, the more difficult it is to control.

  • Asked by David from Indianapolis, In

    Q
Any difference in efficacy using Barricade granular versus spraying liquid?
If I understand correctly, BARRICADE comes in liquid and granular form. Any difference in effectiveness? I have 16,000 SF to treat and am trying to decide whether to use my 4 gal backpack sprayer or broadcast spreading the granules.
    A

There is no difference in effectiveness when using either the liquid application of Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) or the granule application.  It is more a preference of application.

Will Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) stop existing grass such as KBG from spreading and thickening an existing lawn?
    A

Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) will not stop existing KBG from spreading. It is a pre-emergent herbicide that prevents weeds and grasses from germinating in established KBG turf at appropriate times/temperatures.

    Q
    roughly 16mls in .55oz`s
    A

You will need to use 0.185-0.55 oz  (1.1 tsp-3.3 tsp) of Prodiamine 65 WDG per 1,000 sq ft . To decide how much water you want to use, you should mark a 1,000 sq ft area, fill your sprayer with water ONLY, and start walking and spraying just as if you were doing the actual application of herbicide. When you are done walking and spraying the 1,000 sq ft area, note how much water it took you to spray that area, and that is the amount you will want to mix 0.185-.055 oz (1.1 tsp-3.3 tsp) of product with for each 1,000 sq ft area that needs to be treated.

    A

Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) or Dithopyr cannot be used in areas wher edibles are planted or will be planted in the future. We would advise to call manufacturer if you have already planted the lemon tree in that area. You can reach Quali-Pro at 866-897-8050.

  • Asked by John from Nashville, Tn

    Q
Should aerating be done before or after applying Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade)? I will not be overseeding.
Very compacted soil in tall fescue lawn and needs mechanical aeration annually. I will not be overseeding and need information on the timing of Prodiamine 65 WDG treatments.
    A

Aerating should be done prior to applying pre emergents such as Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) and can be done 2 times a year if needed (March-April and August-October). Do not aerate or detach lawns after pre emergent applications as this will disturb and break the barrier the herbicide is providing against weeds.

Effective pre emergent control of weeds is relies heavily on correct timing of the application. In spring, pre emergent applications need to be done when the soil temperature average is just under 55 degrees consecutlvely for 4-5 days. In the fall, pre emergents need to be applied when soil temps begin to drop to 70 degrees and continue to cool.

Pleae contact your County Extension Office for exact timing recommendations in your area or use Syngenta’s GreenCast Soil Temperature Website for soil temperature averages and current readings.
