Scotts STEP 1 Crabgrass Preventer Plus Lawn Food is part of Scott's 4 Step Annual Program and is the first step to a beautiful and strong lawn. Apply this STEP 1 in early spring which is from February to April and get a thick and vibrant lawn. The 27-0-7 fertilizer and herbicide rolled into one mixture lets the lawn grow more roots to better absorb essential micronutrients and water as opposed to unfed lawns. Scotts STEP 1 not only prevents crabgrass from taking over the lawn it also helps protect the lawn against heat, drought and stresses making them last longer and more beautiful. This will also allow to quickly get a greener lawn after winter. Scotts STEP 1 is not for newly seeded areas.

I applied my step 1 and then we got over an inch of rain that same day. Following this, we then had a day rain- free but then the next day we also had substantial rain. Should I reapply and how long time, if any, do I need to wait?
According to the Step 1 Crabgrass Preventer plus Lawn Food product label, for best results the lawn should receive 1/4 to 1/2 inch of water or rainfall within 2-3 days of the application. We would recommend reapplying Step 1 in 4 weeks when you are not expecting much if any rainfall to control the amount of water applied.

We have a light drizzle every day here, and I need to get step one applied before we leave town for an extended time. What will happen if the grass is wet when I apply the step 1 crabgrass preventer plus lawn food?
Much like other granule pre-emergent herbicides, the Scotts STEP 1 Crabgrass Preventer Plus Lawn Food label states to apply when the grass/lawn is dry as you need the granules to reach the soil and not stick to the wet leaf surfaces of the existing plants. If you can water the product into the soil to ensure the granules move from the damp grass into the soil to benefit you the way you desire for weed prevention, this may help decrease the amount of product lost to the surface grass.
