Product Overview

The Rescue Reusable Yellowjacket Trap has a dual-chamber design. Yellowjackets fly in through holes in the bottom of the trap, then continue upward through the interior cone and become trapped within the outer cylinder. The yellowjackets eventually die of dehydration. Our trap's durable construction holds up in sunlight for many seasons of use, and its clear plastic walls allow you to see the yellowjacket "body count" so you can empty the trap when full.  Replacement attractant cartridges are available here.

Roughly a dozen species of yellowjackets throughout North America are known to bite and sting people. The Rescue Reusable Yellowjacket Trap is designed to lure them all.

Where it's used

When possible, the Rescue Reusable Yellowjacket Trap should be hung in a natural setting like a tree, or around the perimeter of an area where the insects have been observed entering. Hang the traps at least 20 feet away from outdoor activity areas like your patio, deck, campsite or picnic area - and at least 20 feet away from any known yellowjacket nests.

When it's used

Use the Rescue Yellowjacket Trap in the spring when queen yellowjackets emerge from hibernation, and in the summer and fall when worker yellowjackets are foraging for food.

What Kills the Insects?

Once inside, the trap's unique design prevents yellowjackets flying away or escaping. The insects eventually die of dehydration.

    Game Changer

    By Bil on 04/29/2022

I'm very allergic to Yellowjacket venom and I live way out in the country. I've used these traps for over thirty years and they have made my outside life livable.

    Effective Yellowjacket Traps

    By Bil on 05/20/2022

In September of 1988 I experienced anaphylactic shock due to a single yellowjacket sting on the ring finger of my left hand. The only time I've been in an ER and never had to wait. A nurse took one look at me and grabbed my hand and brought me to the back immediately. I spent three hours on a gurney on two drips. Saved my life. These traps are pretty good at entrapping the queens and even better during the Summer at entrapping the aggressive workers. In the Summer bait the traps with little chunks tuna in oil. If you can't find tuna canned in oil then add your own. Any edible kitchen oil works well to keep the tuna from dehydrating and will attract the yellowjackets for months. Take good care of the traps, empty them and clean them in the early Spring, You'll be able to use them again and again for years.

Q
How do you empty a full Rescue Reusable Yellowjacket Trap?

This is trapping well--almost full in less than 24 hours. YJ's are still swarming it. How do you safely empty?

A

Rescue Reusable Yellowjacket Trap can be emptied into a plastic/trash bag when full after the yellow jackets have died from dehydration.  If it is getting too full before they die we would recommend using more than 1 trap in the area.  The manufacturer also has a great video here.

Q
What is the best way to remove and take down the Rescue Reusable Yellowjacket Trap while yellow jackets are swarming in the area?
A

The best time to remove the Rescue Reusable Yellowjacket Trap is in the evening when yellow jackets are not as active. Always wear protective clothing when removing the trap such as long sleeves, pants, closed toes shoes and gloves to prevent any accidental stings.

We recommend having a can of Wasp Freeze on hand for immediate contact kill to any swarmers or yellow jackets lingering around the trap. Wasp Freeze will spray 15-20ft away and does have a slight foaming action. Be sure NOT to get any overspray on the traps or bait while replenishing bait in the trap. This could contaminate the bait and can affect the bait attractant from luring the yellow jackets into the trap.

Other options would be to wait until the stations are empty and yellow jacket activity is no longer observed visiting the trap or spraying the stations with a strong jet of water from your hose to keep them away while replenishing the bait.
