The Anderson’s Crabgrass Preventer with 2.5% Balan Herbicide is a preventive herbicide that effectively controls unwanted weeds on turfgrasses. Contains an active ingredient that powerfully eliminates annual grass weeds. It is proven to control summer annual grasses like goosegrass, hairy and smooth crabgrass, barnyard grass, and foxtail. Also targets winter annual grass such as annual bluegrass. This product targets and inhibits the growth of weeds by killing the seeds during germination. It is best applied to established warm and cool-season turfgrasses like bermudagrass, centipedegrass, bahiagrass, perennial ryegrass, fescues, and bentgrass fairways. For best results, make sure to apply the preemergent herbicide approximately a week or two before the germination of annual grass weeds. Available in a 40-lb. bag.

Not for use on turf being grown for sale or other commercial use as sod, or for commercial seed production, or for research purposes.
General Information
This preemergence herbicide controls winter annual grass: annual bluegrass; and summer annual grasses: smooth and hairy crabgrass, goosegrass (silver crabgrass or crowfoot grass), barnyard grass (watergrass) and green and yellow foxtail in established turfgrasses. This product controls these weeds by killing their seeds as they germinate and should be applied to the turf prior to the germination of weed grasses since it will not control established weeds. This product will not harm most nearby established ornamental trees and shrubs.

General Use Precautions and Restrictions Entry Restrictions: Except for those people involved in the watering-in, do not enter or allow other people (or pets) to enter the treated area until dusts have settled and until the watering-in is complete and the surface is dry.
Do not apply this product in a way that will contact workers or other persons (or pets) either directly or through drift. Only protected handlers may be in the area during application.
Recent research has shown that well-maintained turf is an effective environmental buffer that prevents pollutants from entering our natural water bodies. To help protect these natural resources, please avoid applying the product to sidewalks, driveways, roadways, and other impervious surfaces which are adjacent to storm drains. Sweep any misplaced granules back onto the area you are treating immediately after application since storm drains often empty directly to nearby waterways.
This product may thin established annual bluegrass turfs and fine-leaved fescues at rates above 1.38 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft. or 60 lbs. per acre. Do not apply in the spring to turfgrass planted the previous fall. In bermudagrass areas that have been overseeded with winter grasses, a spring application of this product may thin the overseeded grasses. Do not apply to newly sprigged areas of bermudagrass, St. Augustinegrass, centipedegrass or zoysiagrass until these turfs are well established. Any cultural practices that disturb the soil, such as aerification of Verticutting, should be done prior to application of this product.
Rates, Frequency, and Timing of Application
Successful pre-emergence control of the annual grass weeds listed on this label requires proper timing of application.
Apply approximately one to two weeks prior to the anticipated germination of annual grass weeds. All summer annual grasses do not germinate at the same time. If application timing does not coincide with the normal germination period of any of the annual grass weeds listed on this label, weed control results may be erratic or poor.
This product must be watered in as soon as possible after application.
In areas of the United States where germination of these annual weed grass species continues for extended periods of time or where desired, the second application of this product may be made by 8 to 10 weeks after initial treatment on cool-season turfgrasses and 10 to 12 weeks following the initial application on warm-season turfgrasses for continued control. Do not exceed the Maximum Application Rates listed below.

Cool season turfgrasses:
Maximum of 1.38 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. (60 lbs. product per acre, 1.5 lbs. active ingredient per acre) per application.
Maximum of 2 applications per year.
Maximum of 2.75 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. (120 lbs. product per acre, 3 lbs. active ingredient per acre) per year.
Warm season turfgrasses:
Maximum of 2.75 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. (120 lbs. product per acre, 3 lbs. active ingredient per acre) per application.
Maximum of 2 applications per year.
Maximum of 5.50 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. (240 lbs. product per acre, 6 lbs. active ingredient per acre) per year.
RESEEDING
Chemicals that effectively control annual weed seeds may also affect new desirable turfgrass seedlings. Reseeding should be delayed for at least 30 days in the eastern United States bounded by the Mississippi River and 45 days in the western United States after an application rate of 1.38 lbs./1000 sq. ft. and 6 weeks after an application rate up to 1.84 lbs./1000 sq. ft. When reseeding, it is essential that proper cultural practices such as soil cultivation, irrigation, and fertilization be followed. For satisfactory reseeding results after using the product, the amount of seed used should be increased and equipment designed to place send in contact with the soil (such as a slit seeder) should be employed.
APPLICATION EQUIPMENT
Apply this product uniformly over the area using a drop or rotary type spreader, properly calibrated to deliver the correct amount. Check frequently to make sure the equipment is working propery and the granules are being evenly distributed.
