Product Overview

Tebuthiuron 20P Herbicide is a professional-grade granular herbicide for preemergence and postemergence control of woody plants, brush, vines, and certain broadleaf weeds in labeled non-crop areas. It is designed for use on rangeland, permanent grass pastures, rights-of-way, fencerows, roadsides, railroads, pipelines, and wildlife habitat clearings where long-term brush control is needed.

This soil-active herbicide contains 20% tebuthiuron, a Group 7 photosystem II inhibitor that moves into the root zone after sufficient rainfall. Once absorbed by the roots of target vegetation, treated brush and woody plants may show chlorosis, browning, defoliation, and gradual decline.

Tebuthiuron 20P is especially useful for managing hard-to-control brush and woody species such as oak, elm, sagebrush, creosotebush, yaupon, ceniza, blackberry, sumac, sweetgum, privet, kudzu, and Chinese tallow tree. By reducing unwanted canopy cover and woody plant competition, this herbicide can help improve access, visibility, grazeable acres, and wildlife habitat management in appropriate treatment areas.

This product may be applied by aerial broadcast, ground broadcast, or hand treatment of individual plants where labeled. Apply evenly to the soil surface and time applications before expected rainfall for best movement into the root zone. Do not apply near desirable trees, shrubs, or other woody plants, as even small amounts contacting their roots may cause severe injury or death. Not for residential use.

Full Application Instructions

General Use Directions
Alligare Tebuthiuron 20 P Herbicide is a surface-applied, soil-active pellet herbicide for control of unwanted woody vegetation, including trees, shrubs, vines, brush, and certain herbaceous broadleaf plants. Apply pellets evenly to the soil surface in the target treatment area. Treatments become effective after enough rainfall moves the active ingredient into the root zone. For best results, apply before expected seasonal rainfall and before active seasonal growth resumes in spring.

Application Timing
Applications may be made any time except when soil is frozen or saturated with moisture. For optimum results, apply before expected rainfall. Late summer and fall applications in areas receiving more than 25 inches of annual rainfall may require a higher labeled rate within the listed rate range for consistent control.

Individual Plant Treatments
For individual plants, multistem clumps, or small stands of woody vegetation, apply Alligare Tebuthiuron 20 P evenly over the area occupied by the target plant or plants. In pasture and rangeland areas receiving 20 inches or less average annual rainfall, apply 3/8 oz per 100 sq ft, equal to a broadcast rate of 10 lb per acre. In pasture and rangeland areas receiving more than 20 inches average annual rainfall, apply 3/4 oz per 100 sq ft, equal to a broadcast rate of 20 lb per acre. For non-cropland, apply 3/8 to 1 1/8 oz per 100 sq ft, equal to 10-30 lb per acre.

Broadcast Treatments
Apply by ground or aerial application equipment capable of accurate calibration and uniform pellet distribution on the soil surface. On pasture and rangeland, do not apply more than 10 lb per acre in areas receiving 20 inches or less average annual rainfall. Do not apply more than 20 lb per acre in areas receiving more than 20 inches average annual rainfall. On non-cropland, do not apply more than 20 lb per acre.

Rate Selection
Use lower rates on shallow, rocky, or coarse-textured soils with low organic matter, or where partial control is desired. Use higher rates on deep, medium-to-fine textured soils, sites with taller or denser woody vegetation, deep-rooted species, or harder-to-control species. Poor or erratic control may occur on soils containing more than 5% organic matter or more than 30% clay. Do not apply to blackland or other heavy clay soils that crack extensively when dry.

Brush Control Expectations
After application and sufficient rainfall, treated trees and shrubs may show yellowing, browning, and defoliation. Woody plants may go through several defoliation cycles before death occurs. Complete control can take from one growing season to several years depending on target species, rainfall, soil conditions, application rate, and plant tolerance. For best brush control results, do not disturb intact treated plants by cutting, chaining, or burning for 2 years after application.

Grazing and Haying
There are no grazing restrictions following application at labeled rates. Do not cut hay for livestock feed for 1 year after application. If the treated area will be used for haying, follow the maximum labeled application rate limits based on annual rainfall.

Important Use Precautions
Do not apply near desirable plants, trees, shrubs, or other woody species. Even a small amount of product contacting the roots of desirable vegetation may cause severe injury or death, and roots may extend far beyond the drip line. The treatment setback distance should be 1 to 2 times the height or width of adjacent non-target vegetation, whichever is greater. Consult an arborist if there is any question about root location or appropriate setback distance.

Do not apply where overland water flow could move product or treated soil away from the intended treatment area. Do not apply where wind erosion or mechanical soil movement may move treated soil into non-treated areas. Do not apply where the water table is predominantly shallow, where bedrock is exposed or shallow, near sinkholes or closed depressions in karst topography, on high shrink/swell soils that develop deep cracks, or in protected groundwater recharge zones.
