    Q
Is Rat X safe for possums?
I don't want to harm possums if they eat the product.
    A

Rat X is a non-toxic rodent bait that kills rodents without harming any other species. Rat X is made from 100% natural ingredients - it can even be used inside food handling facilities. The mice and rats will eat the bait like a food source and Rat X will cause dehydration. Mice and rats have stomach sensors that tells them when they are thirsty. When they eat this bait, it turns off their stomach sensors and it can no longer tell their brain to drink water. They have no desire for drinking water so they will just go back to their burrow, and begin the cycle - dehydration, failing kidneys, coma and then death. Great product to use around animals and children because it is safe and non toxic. Please be sure to review the product label for more information and complete application instructions.

    Q
Do I cut open the Rat X packs or leave them sealed when placing in locations?
    A

Yes per the manufacturers directions: Place 40-60 grams or 1 1/2 to 2 ounces of Rat X per rat and 10-15 grams or 1/3 or 1/2 ounce per mouse into small bowls or feeding trays approximately 6 feet apart throughout the infested area, or wrap in clinging food packaging film and place in drainpipes, open ended boxes or under sheets of metal/wood secured at an angle against a wall (to keep the bait point dry) at intervals of approximately 6 feet , reducing to approximately 4 feet in areas of high infestation.

    Q
I've seen some rodents (2) walking around the garage like they are drunk. I put out side is this an effect?.
    A
Rat X causes dehydration in rats because it turns off their stomach sensors and it can no longer tell their brain to drink water. This then starts the cycle of dehydration, failing kidneys, coma and then death, so noticing the rats walking around in what seems to be a "drunken" state could be a side effect of this cycle of death taking place.

  • Asked by Ami from Newark, Nj
    02/15/2021
    Q
Why can't Rat X be mixed with peanut butter for better results? Many people have had success with doing this and perhaps should not be discouraged?
    A

Our recommendation of not adding food sources or other bait attractants to Rat X come directly from the manufacturer of the product. The manufacturer advises that adding food or other bait attractants to the product is that the formulation of Rat X already contains food based ingredients to attract rodents for consumption.

Adding additional materials to the bait can cause the rodents to avoid it altogether, or may deter them from feeding on enough of the product to consume a lethal dose.When baiting for rodents, you want to limit other food sources they are attracted to so that they will consume the bait you place out for them.

For more information, please contact the manufacturer EcoClear Products directly at  1-888-511-7289.

    Q
If the rat is eating RatX, but is chewing on house plants too will it still kill them eventually?
    A

As long as the rodent gets a lethal dose amount in their system of the Rat X poison, it will kill them, even if they are also feeding on other non poisonous food sources in the environment.

  • Asked by Tony from Watsonville, Ca

    Q
Your advise against mixing RatX with other foods but don't explain why. Why would adding butter be bad?
Several of your answers advise against mixing RatX with other foods but don't explain why. The rats I'm trying to get rid of LOVE butter and are 100?fective at springing a spring trap without getting caught. Then they eat the butter. I even tried putting butter in every night without setting the trap and then finally setting it, but they still found away to snap it safely. My order of RatX hasn't come yet, but my original idea was to mix it with butter, knowing that they'd have to try it while to get the butter and hopefully develop a taste for it.
    A

Rat X acts very specifically compared to other poisons on the market. Since it works to dehydrate the animal mixing any food addititives, especially wet ones, would get in the way of the product working the way it is designed with its unique ingredient components. If you wish to use butter as a lure on a poison bait, we recommend doing so with bait blocks that would be able to tolerate the ingredients and still be effective when consumed. If you have further questions regarding this, we recommend contacting the manufacturer directly at 914-376-7387.

  • Asked by Larry from Delaware

    Q
How much Rat X does a rat need to consume for it to be lethal? How does this bait kill?
    A

A rat would have to consume 40-60 grams, or 1.5 to 2 ounces of Rat X, or about 10-15 pellets for a lethal dose. This product kills by dehydration. The mice and rats will eat the bait like a food source. Mice and rats have stomach sensors that tell them when they are thirsty. When they eat this bait, it turns off their stomach sensors and it can no longer tell their brain to drink water. They have no desire for drinking water so they will just go back to their burrow, and begin the cycle - dehydration, failing kidneys, coma and then death.

    Q
Will Rat X work on shrews?
    A

Rat X is only labeled for rats and mice. It is not labeled for shrews.  We do not have any products that are labeled specifically for shrews, but you could potentially use mouse traps if needed. You can also use STUF-FIT Copper Mesh and other exclusion tools to close off the entry points.

  • Asked by Max from Los Angeles, Ca
    11/20/2019
    Q
Why shouldn't I mix Rat X with other food?
I read answers to my question but no explanations as to why Rat X should not be mixed with other food. Rats won't eat it by itself--have tried and tried. They only eat it if it's mixed with food. Hamburger grease poured over pellets works best to make them eat it. Eliminating other food source is impossible in a multiple-unit dorm-style building.
    A

Rat X should not be mixed with anything as this can cause the bait to sour/mold faster.  If rats are not going for it, you need to be sure all other competing food sources are eliminated.  Rats are also neophobic which means they are resistant to anything new in their environment, so it can take time for them to adjust to the bait being food, up to 1-3 weeks.  If you have rats inside, it is also not recommended to use bait as you cannot control where they are going to die.

For rodents inside it is best to use snap traps and glueboards so you can control where they are going to die.  You should also seal up all cracks and crevices outside that are allowing them access to inside.  Using tamper resistant bait stations with a rodenticide outside would also help if they are coming and going. I believe my dog ate Rat X. Will it harm him?
    A

Rat X is a non-toxic rodent bait that kills rodents without harming any other species. The rats will eat the bait like a food source and Rat X will cause dehydration. Rats have stomach sensors that tell them when they are thirsty, this will only affect rodents that eat the bait as dogs do not have this sensor. Of course, if you have concerns, it is recommended to contact your vet.
