Rat X is a non toxic bait that is safe around poultry when used as directed on the product label It is only designed to affect rodents.
Rat X is a non-toxic rodent bait that kills rodents without harming any other species. Rat X is made from 100% natural ingredients - it can even be used inside food handling facilities. The mice and rats will eat the bait like a food source and Rat X will cause dehydration. Mice and rats have stomach sensors that tells them when they are thirsty. When they eat this bait, it turns off their stomach sensors and it can no longer tell their brain to drink water. They have no desire for drinking water so they will just go back to their burrow, and begin the cycle - dehydration, failing kidneys, coma and then death. Great product to use around animals and children because it is safe and non toxic. Please be sure to review the product label for more information and complete application instructions.
Yes per the manufacturers directions: Place 40-60 grams or 1 1/2 to 2 ounces of Rat X per rat and 10-15 grams or 1/3 or 1/2 ounce per mouse into small bowls or feeding trays approximately 6 feet apart throughout the infested area, or wrap in clinging food packaging film and place in drainpipes, open ended boxes or under sheets of metal/wood secured at an angle against a wall (to keep the bait point dry) at intervals of approximately 6 feet , reducing to approximately 4 feet in areas of high infestation.
Rat X has a shelf life of 2-3 years if unopened and should be used within 1 year of opening the bag.
There is no need to unwrap Rat X as rodents will chew through it.
Rat X will only work on mice and rats, and is safe to use around livestock and pets.Per the manufacturer, there is no risk of secondary poisoning. If you have any additonal concerns, we recommend consulting with your Vet before treating with the product. Please review the Rat X product label for more information.
Our recommendation of not adding food sources or other bait attractants to Rat X come directly from the manufacturer of the product. The manufacturer advises that adding food or other bait attractants to the product is that the formulation of Rat X already contains food based ingredients to attract rodents for consumption.
Adding additional materials to the bait can cause the rodents to avoid it altogether, or may deter them from feeding on enough of the product to consume a lethal dose. When baiting for rodents, you want to limit other food sources they are attracted to so that they will consume the bait you place out for them.

Rat X is a 100% natural and non toxic bait for rodent and cannot impact other animals or people. We cannot speak to any sensitivies or alergic reactions you or we would be unaware of that your dog may have if it were to consume the bait. We strongly recommend contacting your veterinarian first and foremost if you have any concerns. As long as the rodent gets a lethal dose amount in their system of the Rat X poison, it will kill them, even if they are also feeding on other non poisonous food sources in the environment.
Rat X acts very specifically compared to other poisons on the market. Since it works to dehydrate the animal mixing any food addititives, especially wet ones, would get in the way of the product working the way it is designed with its unique ingredient components. If you wish to use butter as a lure on a poison bait, we recommend doing so with bait blocks that would be able to tolerate the ingredients and still be effective when consumed. If you have further questions regarding this, we recommend contacting the manufacturer directly at 914-376-7387.
A rat would have to consume 40-60 grams, or 1.5 to 2 ounces of Rat X, or about 10-15 pellets for a lethal dose. This product kills by dehydration. The mice and rats will eat the bait like a food source. Mice and rats have stomach sensors that tell them when they are thirsty. When they eat this bait, it turns off their stomach sensors and it can no longer tell their brain to drink water. They have no desire for drinking water so they will just go back to their burrow, and begin the cycle - dehydration, failing kidneys, coma and then death.
Yes, Rat X is labeled for mice and rats. Please review the product label for more information.
Rat X is only labeled for rats and mice. It is not labeled for shrews. We do not have any products that are labeled specifically for shrews, but you could potentially use mouse traps if needed. You can also use STUF-FIT Copper Mesh and other exclusion tools to close off the entry points.
Rat X should not be mixed with anything as this can cause the bait to sour/mold faster. If rats are not going for it, you need to be sure all other competing food sources are eliminated. Rats are also neophobic which means they are resistant to anything new in their environment, so it can take time for them to adjust to the bait being food, up to 1-3 weeks. If you have rats inside, it is also not recommended to use bait as you cannot control where they are going to die.
For rodents inside it is best to use snap traps and glueboards so you can control where they are going to die. You should also seal up all cracks and crevices outside that are allowing them access to inside. Using tamper resistant bait stations with a rodenticide outside would also help if they are coming and going. We have some guides below that can help as well:
