    Q
Can I mix Riptide and Talstar in my sprayer?
    A

Using Riptide with the Talstar P will give you a fast knockdown and then the 30 day residual.  Spray Talstar P and Riptide on trees, shrubs and bushes paying special attention to the underside of the leaves. You can also spray your lawn to help control the low flying gnats that tend to land there. Talstar P will give a long lasting residual while the Riptide will give you a fast knockdown. You can use both products in the same area to get both a fast knock down and a long lasting residual. It is best to treat in the early morning or the late evening when these pests are most active.

    Q
What is the recommended concentration of Riptide for a root drench?
The pests we are dealing with are root aphids. Any other recommendations, in addition to optimum concentration, are welcome. Thanks!
    A

Riptide 5.0% Pyrethrin ULV is not labeled to be used as a root drench.  It is not a systemic and will not be absorbed through the roots.  It is only for spraying plants surfaces to kill exposed aphids on plants. If you are looking for a systemic product to apply as a soil drench Adonis 2F would be a better option.

Tengard SFR could be used for flies in poultry houses and will leave a residual.  Poultry should be out of the area during treatment until dry.  Please refer to the product label for complete instructions.

    Q
Can Riptide be used around pools?
I get a lot of mosquitoes due to my pool and am concerned about the Zika Virus. Will this kills any plants or shrubs? When is the best time to spray? What about the rain?
    A

Riptide should not be used around pools and/or in direct water. This product will not kill any plants or shrubs. It is recommended that this product be used in early mornings or late evenings. It is a contact kill so once the product has dried completely, it is no longer working. Rain does not affect the product.

A better option would be Talstar P. It is labeled for mosquitoes and has a residual of approximately 30 days outdoors. It can be sprayed on and around bushes, trees, flowers, etc. The mixing ratio is 1 fl. oz. per gallon of water. Once the product has dried completely, it is rainfast and the rain will not affect it.

    Q
When using Riptide in a fogger, do I dilute or use undiluted?
Fogmaster Micro Jet ULV Fogger 7401 thinking of purchasing this for my home have seen few roaches
    A

Riptide can be used undiluted or diluted inside of a fogger. This will only kill what it comes in contact with and does not leave a residual.

For roaches, we would recommend using residual products. We do have Roach Control Kit that comes with everything you will need to do a complete roach treatment. Please also check out our Roach Guide for tips and instructions on how to treat and prevent roaches.

    Q
What product works best against zika mosquitoes in a misting system?
    zika mosquitoes
    A

We can give advice on how to reduce mosquito populations and reduce the risk of being bitten by mosquitoes that may vector disease, but any reduction in risk of contracting a disease is something we cannot comment on. The most popular concentrate we sell for mosquito misting systems in residential areas is Riptide 5.0% Pyrethrin ULV, which has a high percentage of active ingredient for quick knockdown of flying insects. Please also take a few moments to review our Mosquito Pest Guide for more information and tips about this pest.

    Q
Can Riptide be used around edibles for mosquito control?
We have a pool, pecan trees, and some fruits and vegetables. We would like to use one product that is safe for treatment of mosquitos and work for 30 days.
    A

Riptide is not labeled to be used around or on any type of edibles. We would recommend using Hi-Yield Indoor/Outdoor Broad Use Insecticide. It is labeled to be used on and around many kinds of edibles for control of mosquitoes.

    Q
Can Riptide 5.0% Pyrethrin be mixed with something like FenvaStar Plus Esfenvalerate 8.4%
    to provide residual effects
    A
Since Riptide would need to ba applied via Fogger, and Fenvastar could clog a fogger they could not be applied at the same time.  We recommend that you fog first for initial knockdown and then come back behind and spray Fenvastar.

    Q
Is the Riptide left in my mister system over the winter still effective?
We had a few freezes (Texas) Also does the mixture need to be stirred/agitated?
    A
The system and all nozzles should be cleaned/rinsed and the mixture should be discarded after being exposed to extreme temperatures. The manufacturer also suggests that high temperatures will degrade the active ingredient. Misting system containers should be sheltered and/or insulated to protect from the sun also. You should replenish with a new container of Riptide. It is not necessary to apply and agitator per the product label.

    Q
I have a professional mosquito misting machine installed at my house. They use Riptide, but I see it on many online stores, they recommend Vector-Ban as a more affordable alternative. Which one should I use?
    A
VECTOR-BAN Plus is for use in automatic misting systems, outdoor band applications, indoor applications, crack & crevice, ULV & space spray, and on listed animals and is a permethrin based product and has a bit of resiudal activity . Riptide ULV which is a pyrethrum based product that can be used in a mosquito misting machine with no residual properties only a contact kill. Both are great for erdicating mosquitoes in a misting system. Vector-Ban is a more affordable option as far as price point.

    Q
I live on the water in Michigan and usually have my house sprayed to control spiders and mosquitos.
I would like to use a pump spryer and do it myself. What product can be safe around water and mixed to spray whole house and last for summer?
    A
Riptide ULV Pyrethrin is really meant to be used in fogging applications, but it can be used in a hand pump sprayer for some uses, such as treating cattle. We would recommend using Talstar P (Talstar One) for spiders and mosquitoes. It can be used in a pump sprayer. You will mix 1 fl. oz. per gallon of water. Talstar P can be broadcast across your lawn, sprayed on shrubs, bushes, flowers, etc. It cannot be used on any type of edibles. This will last about 30 days outdoors. Talstar P can also be used indoors around the baseboards and cracks and crevices.

  • Asked by Chris from Miami, Fl

    Q
How well does Riptide work against ticks?
I am currently struggling with a tick infestation in my yard and I wanted to know how effective Riptide would be against ticks in the yard? I have fogged my garage and indoors, tick medication for my dogs, but they are still coming in on the dogs after they go out to use the bathroom.
    A
Riptide is labeled to kill ticks, as well as various other flying insects. It is a contact kill only and usually applied with a fogger.

An option that is longer lasting is the Tick Control Kit. It contains Permethrin SFR 36.8% and Archer IGR. An IGR is an insect growth regulator. This will stop the ticks from reproducing. The mixing ratio is Archer IGR: 1 fl. oz. Permethrin SFR: .8oz into one gallon of water. Treatments can be done every 14 days until the ticks are eradicated. After that, for regular treatments, spraying every 30 days is enough.

    Q
How long is the residual effect of Riptide before it has to be re-applied?
Does it compare to Talstar P or Mosquito Barrier for mosquito application?
    A
Riptide does not have a residual effect after it is dry. It also is applied using a misting system. Talstar P (Talstar One) has a 30 day residual outdoors and a 90 day residual indoors. Mosquito Barrier kills on contact and has a residual for up to a month. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
