IGRs (Insect Growth Regulators) are used in conjunction with other roach control products such as roach baits and roach spray to help prevent adult roaches from reproducing. IGRs are safe to use around children and pets and can dramatically reduce the roach population over time.
Using roach IGRs is important when you’re trying to get rid of roaches, since you might be tempted to merely get some roach spray or other pesticides, apply them, and call it a day. Sadly just using cockroach killer will not be sufficient in 99% of infestations. This is because these insects are well known for creating large and elaborate nests deep within the home, and killing the ones you see will not solve the problem.
Not only are the adults that are seen in the open a small portion of the overall nest, but they also are likely to have already reproduced, meaning that the next generation is just waiting to come out and needs to also be removed if you are to have any hope of getting the infestation out.
Here at Do My Own Pest Control we have numerous products known as IGRs or insect growth regulators that will help you attack and kill the bugs before they reach adulthood, making all your efforts at eradication that much easier. Of course we also offer all the free expert advice you’ll need to make sure that you get rid of the problem right the first time out.
Simply put, an insect growth regulator is designed to interfere with the vitally important egg and larval stages of the insect’s life cycle. This obviously helps in getting rid of cockroaches because if they can’t reproduce there will be no infestation beyond the current generation.
Most roach control products such as IGRs come in several different forms. The two main ways of applying IGRs to combat an infestation are through sprays and what are known as IGR cockroach baits. Either way can be effective and often will need to be tailored to your own specific situation. The IGRs that we sell are also completely safe for use in food preparation areas and around pets and children, however if using a spray, it should be allowed to dry before the treated area is opened to small animals and kids.
While IGRs certainly play an important part in roach control, you’re also likely to need a more traditional pesticide in order to kill the bugs that are still able to reproduce while the IGR takes its toll on the larvae and nymphs. As always, you can find all of the professional strength products you’ll need here that will ensure you get rid of your roach problem quickly, safely, and completely.
