The mixing ratio for Safari is 1.25 - 5.0 level teaspoons per inch of the trunk diameter at breast height. For your tree, you will use 12.5-50 level teaspoons. This needs to be mixed in between 10-15 gallons of water to ensure that the product gets into the roots of your tree.
Safari 20SG is only labeled for non-bearing nut trees and does not have labeling for walnut maggots. For other bark applications, the amount of product you need will depend on the size of the tree. Page 14 of the product label has instructions on this application. We would suggest contact your local Cooperative Extension office for assistance with this pest.
The mixing ratio of Safari 20SG Systemtic Insecticide is 1.5 - 2.0 fl. oz. per inch of the trunk diameter. This needs to be mixed in at least 5-10 gallons of water. Remember, the important thing about using this product is that the water is a carrier. The amount of product is what is important.
We have checked with the manufacturer of Safari 20SG and they stated there should not be any issue with using the compost for your vegetables with the time passed.
You would use 12 – 24 oz of Safari 20G per gallon of water if you are using as a basal trunk spray on trees or large shrubs per the product label. If you are trying to spray as a foliar or broadcast spray for treatment of small areas: 1/2 - 1.0 tsp per gallon. If you are trying to apply as a drench to the soil there is not going to be an amount per gallon but an amount per inch of shrub height or truck diameter. Pages 10-11 explain the rates for this.
Yes, you can use Safari 20SG Systemic Insecticide with Dinotefuran as a foliar spray and systemic drench. As a drench you can use 0.2 to 0.4 oz per 1,000 sq ft, as a systemic drench you can use 3 to 6 grams per foot of height with sufficient water; please follow the label instructions. We also recommend using two different products, you could use Safari 20SG for your systemic drench application and something like Talstar P for a foliar application using 0.5 to 1 oz per 1,000 sq.ft.
Per the product label for Safari 20SG Systemic Insecticide with Dinotefuran on ornamental shrubs/ground covers for Euonymus scale, you would use 3 - 6 grams (1.25 - 2.5 level teaspoons) per foot of height and apply 1 - 4 pints of drench solution per foot of height. Pull back mulch before drenching.. Adjust drench volume based on soil type, soil moisture and thickness of mulch so that product is moved into root zone. Please refer page 11 of the product label for complete instructions.
Per the Safari 20SG Systemic Insecticide with Dinotefuran product label for woolly adelgids: Mix 1/4 to 1/2 lb per 100 gallons for foliar spray. For treatment of small areas: 1/2 - 1.0 tsp per gallon. 100 gals of spray mix will treat 20,000 sq ft of area when using a typical high volume sprayer. If using a low volume sprayer, adjust concentration to apply the same amount of product per unit area.
Treatments should generally begin in early May to mid June and should be done every year to protect trees from the Emerald Ash Borers using a basal spray with Safari 20SG.
Yes, Safari 20SG Systemic Insecticide will kill bagworms. The amount of product used will depend on where and what exactly you are treating.

We recommend that contact your local cooperative extension office for a product recommendation. Please let us know and we can see if we can get it for you.
Safari is not labeled to be used on anything edible.   Unfortunately once the beetles have already infested the bark of a lime tree there are not any viable treatment options. In cases of infestation the general recommendation is to simply protect the surrounding trees with preventative sprays with a product labeled for such a use. This can be done using something like Monterey Garden Insect Spray.
We do have various products that are labeled for thrips that can go to California. ImidaPro 4SC is a very good product that can be used as a basal trunk treatment. It is also labeled for certain edibles as well. If you would like another product that contains the active ingredient Dinotefuran, Zylam Liquid Systemic Insecticide would be a good choice and is labeled for thrips. Be sure to check the product label to be sure that it is labeled for your needs. It also comes in a soluble granule formulation, Zylam 20SG Systemic Turf Insecticide.
Safari 20 SG Systemic Insecticide will typically last between 6 months to 1 year. Please keep in mind that there are many variables that can influence how long a systemic is still active in the target plant such as soil condition, rainfall, and health of the plant.
Safari 20SG is mixed at 1.0 tsp per gallon of water to cover 200 sq ft. for a foliar spray application for most treatments. Safari is a fairly complicated product to use, and we want to make sure you are getting the correct usage information, so we are recommending that you contact Valent directly. You can reach Valent by calling 800-682-6368. You will need to also provide the targeting insect as well. Please review the product label for complete directions.
