    Will Safari 20SG Systemic Insecticide with Dinotefuran kill the fungus gnat larvae in the soil of house plants?
    A

    Safari 20SG Systemic Insecticide with Dinotefuran is labeled for fungus gnats outdoors but is not labeled for fungus gnats indoors on houseplants. Refer to the section Ornamental Plants – Indoors on page 9 of the product label for a full list of insects Safari can be used on indoors. 

    The easiest control for them is to allow the soil to dry out completely between the times you are watering them, which may actually be the best thing for the plants anyhow.

    Bonide Systemic Houseplant Insect Control would be recommended to treat the fungus gnat larvae in the soil and using Talstar P for a foliar spray application. Spray houseplants outdoors and allow to dry before taking them back into the house. View the full product label for each for more information.

    Can Safari 20SG Systemic Insecticide with Dinotefuran be used systemically or foliar spray for Pine Oak Bark Beetles in my blue/black oak tree
    I live in drought stricken Northern California and have already lost one large oak and I worry about the others that I have on my property.

    Safari 20SG Systemic Insecticide is not labeled to control bark beetles, instead you can use Permethrin SFR 36.8% as a foliar spray to help prevent the infestation of trees and woody ornamentals. Infested trees would need to be pruned and dispose of bark beetle-infested limbs. If the main trunk is extensively attacked by bark beetles, the entire tree or shrub should be removed.

    The mixing ratio of Safari 20SG Systemtic Insecticide is 2.1-4.2 ounces per 10 inches of trunk diameter at breast height (DBH) so you will need 16.8-33.6 ounces of product for a tree that is 80 inches in diameter.

    Product label says mix "12-24 oz/gal depending on bark." But which one is for thicker bark, the more dilute 12 oz/gal or the more conc 24 oz/gal? Label doesn't say.

    Safari 20SG Systemic Insecticide is labeled to be used as a basal bark spray on trunks of trees for borer control and the label states: "Depending on bark type and thickness, one gallon of spray solution will typically cover 65-85" of cumulative trunk diameter (1.5-2.0 fl oz per inch of trunk diameter) when applied to trunk between soil surface and 4-5 feet above soil surface." Typically the thicker the bark and more active the infestation, the higher use rate would be recommended.

    Can Safari 20SG Systemic Insecticide with Dinotefuran be applied using a hose end sprayer for soil drenching to control Hemlock woolly adelgid?

    Safari 20SG Systemic Insecticide with Dinotefuran cannot be applied with a hose-end sprayer as it will not give you the treatment or coverage that you need. It needs to be applied with a low-volume sprayer or you can mix it in a bucket and pour it around the base of the trees.

    The hemlock is severely infested. How much do I measure using the plastic measuring cup that came with Safari and how much water for bark spraying?

    A hemlock measuring 27 inches in circumference would be a DBH (Diameter at Breast Height) of 8.5 inches.

    I measured the Hemlock tree and it is 71" in circumference. If my calculations are correct this breaks down to 22.6" in diameter. How much Safari is required for one gallon of water?

    Thrips on indoor (Giant sized) split leaf philodendrons
    I get recurring thrips , sucking on leaves. they start when bringing the big plants inside in Fall, by December the bugs are damaging. What do you recommend other than the standard sprays at nurseries. I just bought Dinotefuran...should I use it? (I can move the plants to the garage to spray) I realize it is not recommended for indoor plants but seems like many people are doing that.

    Will I need to lower the dosage(soil injection) if other trees are in close proximity to each other?
    I am treating a row of elm trees that are spaced 15 feet on center. Will I overdose them if the roots from neighboring trees are in the same area as the tree I am treating?

    You will not need to lower the dosage when using Safari 20SG Systemic Insecticide with Dinotefuran as long as you drench around each induvial tree based on the DBH, it will not be too much product.

    How much water to chemical do I need for a 1 gallon EZ-ject soil injector.

    Safari 20SG Systemic Insecticide with Dinotefuran states to use 3-12 grams (1.25-5.0 level teaspoons) per inch of trunk diameter at breast height (DBH) if less than 24" or 6-12 grams (2.5-5.0 level teaspoons) per inch of trunk diameter at breast height (DBH) if greater than 24". Pertaining to the water it states, 1:100, which equals 1 part injector tank solution: 100 parts irrigation water). If further assistance is needed we would recommend reaching out to the manufacturer or an arborist.

    Safari 20SG Systemic Insecticide with Dinotefuran is not labeled for spider mites or "cedar mites". 
     
    Talstar P would be recommended for the treatment of Spider mites. Apply at the rate of 0.5 fl oz to 1.0 fl oz per gallon of water to the base, trunk, branches, limbs, and foliage. 
     
    Per the product label, best results are achieved when treatments are applied during spring to mid-summer, and the addition of a surfactant or horticultural oil may increase the effectiveness of Talstar P for treating Spider Mites.
