  • Asked by Mike from Kissimmee, Fl

    Q
Will I need to retreat the yard if there was rain a couple hours after applying Sedgehammer?
I sprayed my yard with SedgeHammer Herbicide. A couple of hours later, I had a light rain.
    A

SedgeHammer Herbicide will be rainfast 4 hours after application. For better results, we advise that you apply SedgeHammer Herbicide to a dry lawn at least 24 hours before you are expecting any rain. If it rained prior to the 4 hour drying time that is needed per the label, you may go ahead and mow the lawn, and wait 2 weeks to reapply. If the nutsedge does not outgrow the lawn the 1st application, most likely it had time to work. However, if the nutsedge outgrows the lawn in the first 2 weeks after mowing, you will most likely need to reapply, and you can do so at that time.

  • Asked by Charlie from Milford, Delaware
    07/22/2013
    Q
What is the difference between liquid and powder Sedgehammer?
    Will Sedgehammer work on crabgrass?
    A
We are unaware of any version of Sedgehammer that comes in a liquid. Both the 13.5 gram packet, and the 1.33 ounce bottle are a dry formulation. The only difference is the 13.5 gram pack comes pre mixed with a dry surfactant and the 1.33 ounce bottle does not. Neither form will work on crabgrass as this product is specifically for treatment of sedges like yellow and purple nutsedge, hence its catchy name. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Asked by Art from Lake Mary, Fl
    12/27/2015
    Q
What type of Non-Ionic Surfactant can be used with SedgeHammer Herbicide?
    A

The SedgeHammer 13.5 gram box already contains a surfactant so no additional surfactant would be needed. If you are using the 1.33 oz bottle of SedgeHammer, we would recommend using Non-Ionice Surfactant for Herbicides. If using the 1.33 oz. bottle, use 0.9 g (one spoonful) in 1-2 gallons of water with 2 teaspoons of a nonionic surfactant.

  • Asked by Cdw from Alabama
    10/03/2015
    Q
What time of year is sedgehammer most effective?
Can it be used in the fall or the start of winter? How long do I have to wait before I can Plat a garden after applying sedge hammer?
    A

Sedgehammer will only control weeds that are actively growing so it likely will not kill anyting in the winter once the plants are dormant and may only give partial control in the fall. It is best used in the warmer spring and summer months and early fall. Per the manufacturer, if you plan to plant a vegetable garden you cannot do so within 3 years of applying Sedgehammer in the same area unless you remove the soil treated with Sedgehammer and bring in fresh soil.

    Q
Can Sedgehammer be used when other weed applications are being put on the lawn, or will it harm the lawn?
Our lawn is being sprayed 4 times a year by a professional lawn company, but they do not spray for nutgrass.
    A

You should be fine to spot treat the nutsedge using Sedgehammer as long as the lawn is not over-stressed by heat or drought or from the other herbicide being applied. Be sure to apply according to the product label.

  • Asked by Mark from Lansdale, Pa
    08/11/2011
    Q
I have a large lawn - about 50,000 square feet. Can SedgeHammer Herbicide be used on a hose end sprayer and, if so, how?
    A
A hose end sprayer would not be the best applicator for a water dispersible granule like Sedgehammer. It is important to make sure the correct amount of product goes over a specific area and hose end sprayers are not known to be very accurate. You will need to mix 0.9 gram of Sedgehammer (using the measuring scoop provided) in one or two gallons of water to treat 1000 square feet. Add 2 teaspoons (1/3 fluid ounce) of nonionic surfactant per gallon of water. Ensure the product is measured as a level scoop and not rounded.

    Q
I applied Sedgehammer about five days ago. How long until it works, and I will see the nutsedge start to die?
    A
Most of our customers begin to see results in 5 to 7 days, as long as the product was applied correctly according to the label.  For specific questions and inquiries about Sedgehammer, we recommend calling the manufacturer who is the expert on their own product.  The manufacturer is Gowan Company and they can be reached at (928) 783-8844.

  • Asked by Arjun from Austin
    04/17/2017
    Q
Can Sedgehammer+ be used with Image Atrazine?
To target more weeds in a single application, can Image Atrazine for St. Augustine be used with Sedgehammer+? What concentration should it be used in such a scenario? Does the fact that one get absorbed by roots and the other by leaves make a difference?
    A

Yes, Sedgehammer Herbicide can be mixed with Atrazine. We do recommend doing a small tank mixture first to ensure there is no clumping between the two products. You will use the mixing rates for each product per gallon of water. No, the two absorbition methods do not have any affect on the products being applied together.

    Q
Is Sedgehammer Herbicide the best to apply in a Bermuda lawn for nutsedge?
    A

Yes, Sedgehammer can be applied to Bermuda lawns for nutsedge. The 13.5 gram pack will cover about 1,000 sq ft if mixed with a gallon of water. The 1.33 oz bottle should be applied with a surfactant as the pack already includes a surfactant and will cover up to an acre of treated area.

  • Asked by Kathy from Fair Oaks, In

    Q
I need to kill nutsedge in my hay field - can I use Sedgehammer? If not, what product can I safely use?
I have a six acre mixed grass hay field used for making horse hay that was flooded for six weeks and now has a good amount of yellow nutsedge.
    A

Sedgehammer Herbicide is not labeled to be used in pastures.  The only product we currently carry for yellow nutsedge that is labeled for us in pastures is AXXE Broad Spectrum Herbicide.  Please refer to the product label for complete instructions.

    Q
Can I use Sedgehammer in my vegetable garden?
    A
Sedgehammer is meant more for nutsedge control in turf grass and it cannot be used near a vegetable garden or anything edible. For nutsedge in landscaped areas it is recommended to spot treat the sedge with a glyphosate or Round Up type product directly.  We recommend Roundup QuickPro 1.5 oz. packs for ease of use.
