    Q
How do I spray for squash bugs and how many oz per gal?
    A
According to the Sevin Concentrate product label, which is always available on our website, "To effectively kill the vegetable pests listed below, mix 1.5 fl. oz. of product per gallon of water and apply product in adequate volume to effectively cover both the upper and lower surfaces of the plant." You did not indicate the vegetable you were spraying but we assume that it is squash. The pre-harvest interval is 3 days for squash and you can spray a maximum of 6 times per year.

    Q
What is the shelf life of Sevin Concentrate?
How many years can you keep Sevin Concentrate?
    A
Sevin concentrate, like all of our concentrates, can easily last up to 5 years on the shelf as long as you keep the lid on tight and keep the bottle out of direct sunlight.  It also helps to shake the bottle every few months if you have not used it in a while.

    Q
Is it safe (for honey bees) to use Sevin in my area (Central Florida) on my Grapefruit and Lime Trees?
    A
According to the Sevin Concentrate product label "This product is highly toxic to honeybees and other bees. Do not apply to plants in bloom." Almost all insecticides are toxic to bees as they are non-selective. You can help limit any effect to bees by being careful not to apply the insecticides when bees are actively foraging in the area.

    Q
Can I use Sevin on my couch and carpet?
I was told that I could use Sevin-5 in home on couch, carpet, and that it would kill everything. Me or my pet, was told just to wait no longer than 2 days before sweeping up, also told that people were using it on pets instead of Frontline or other. Is this true?
    A
Sevin (at least the Sevin product that we carry) is not labeled for use on couches or carpets, and it is not labeled for use on pets.  So we cannot comment on the validity of those statements. We can only make recommendations based on the instructions on the product.

  • Asked by Cricket from Harwood, Md
    06/27/2012
    Q
I'm concerned about using Sevin to spray my grape vines to rid them of Japanese beetles
I'm worried about the mist contaminating the surrounding ground for my dogs. I use the grape vines to cover a pergola, I don't eat the grapes, as the birds get the first. What mix ratio should I use?
    A
To avoid any issues you should keep your pets out of the area while you are applying Sevin and you can allow them back in the area after the application has dried. As long as you follow the product label instructions there is only a very small amount of pesticide over any given area, only enough to kill insects not enough to harm a mammal.  According to the Sevin product label: Mix 3.0 fl. oz. of product per gallon of water and spray upper and lower leaf surfaces and between fruit clusters and on small limbs and trunks to the point of runoff where pest appear. Repeat applications as necessary up to a total of eight times per year for tree fruits or five times per year for small fruits, but not more often than once every seven days.

    Q
I found a bag of Sevin Pwd. that is 29yrs old. Any good?
    A
Most manufacturers give their products a shelf life of 5 years and they will not back any type of damage that results from using old products. We would recommend just disposing of the old product to be safe.

    Q
What is the mixing ratio of Sevin concentrate for dew worms?
    A
Sevin is not labeled for dew worms so we do not have a way to tell the correct concentration to use for this use. There are no products on the market labeled for dew worms or earthworms as they are seen as beneficial creatures.

  • Asked by Wickins from Attica Ny

    Q
Can I mix Sevin concentrate with ready to use spray? I have some left in my sprayer which has already been mixed
    A
We actually do not recommend using any type of mixed solution after 24 hours of mixing. This is because the efficacy of the active ingredient will subside.
