    Q
Will Talstar P still provide mosquito control in a small yard even if my neighbors do not maintain their yard?
I want a treatment plan for mosquitoes. Here is my problem. My yard is only 50ft deep and 100ft wide. I can spray my yard and shrubs with Talstar P, but since it is such a small area, won't the mosquitoes just come over from my neighbors? -they have lots of plants and foliage and don't keep things nice and trim. Their bad habits die hard, so talking to them is not a long term solution. Will Talstar P provide me some releif, or am I wasting my efforts and money?
    A

With mosquito control you want to not only be sure that the foliage on your trees and ornamentals are taken care of by maintenance and spraying, but that any standing water no matter how small is either eliminated your treated with a larvicide so the breeding cycle in the mosquitoes can be disrupted. Talstar P is one of our most recommended products for mosquito control. It will keep down the population even if your neighbor doesn't to the yard maintenance that you do.

    Q
Can I mix Talstar P with Beta cyfluthrin and Imidacloprid along with Archer igr and Eagle 20ew?
I’m looking to treat mosquitoes, white grub worms and do a fungicide treatment all in one if possible in a backpack tank sprayer
    A

No, we would not recommend mixing all of those products together into one application. You can mix Talstar with the Archer for your mosquito treatment, focusing on your shrubs and trees, (not so much on your lawn), making sure to spray the underside of the leaves, as this is where the mosquitoes land.  You should be retreating every 30 days for mosquitoes.  Your imidacloprid would be for your grub treatment, which should be done a bit later in May and then again in September, as grubs have 2 generations per year.  The Eagle 20 EW is your fungicide treatment which would be best not to be mixed with your insecticides.

    Q
Will Talstar P Professional Insecticide kill Lady bugs?
Will this product kill lady bugs? If not which products will kill lady bugs and stink bugs in Illinois?
    A

Yes, Talstar P is labeled for stink bugs and lady bugs. The mixing ratio is 1 fl. oz. per gallon of water. This will be used to spray around baseboards, cracks and crevices to help kill those that contact a treated area.

The Overwintering Kit is an excellent combination of products that protects you during your winter months with an insecticide and a dust. We generally do recommend at least using a dust with any other product, such as Talstar P, that you are using as an added protection to consider using throughout the year.

    Q
Will Talstar P kill Cicada Killers? If so, What is the recommended way of applying the product?
    A

Talstar P will kill Cicada Killer that come into contact with treated areas for a sufficient amount of time to receive a lethal dose. You will need to dilute 1 fl oz of Talstar P per gallon of water and broadcast spray over the areas where you have noticed activity. Most folks notice only very limited results from broadcast sprays of insecticides for cicada killers because they don't land and walk around for a long enough time before entering their underground burrow. Please read below for the most effective treatment method:

Cicada Killer wasps thrive in disturbed environments, such as landscaped yards and places where bare soil is exposed. You can discourage the wasps from nesting in your yard by cutting your grass on the highest setting and by adding a thick layer of mulch to flower beds during the Cicada Killer Wasp season. These wasps do not like over saturated lawns either, so over watering during their season will help prevent them. Unfortunately, there is no fool proof way to prevent cicada killer wasps. For prevention you can try to use a granular insecticide such as Talstar PL  Granules in the couple of weeks before this pest is known to emerge. For current infestations, you would need to use Delta dust in each individual burrow.

We also like to let our customers know that the Cicada Killer wasps are beneficial insects that provide free pest control for a couple months each year. Cicada killer wasps paralyze and provision their burrows with other insects to feed their young.  The beneficial Cicada killer wasps, while large and intimidating to see, are mostly harmless and there have been very few reports of anyone getting stung by just being near them. In most cases where a sting was reported, the wasps were being held or molested in some way. Cicada Killer Wasp stings are also reported to be almost painless.

    Q
How effective is Talstar P on fire ants?
    A

Talstar P is effective for fire ant control.  Per the product label, "Fire Ant Mound control is optimized by combining broadcast applications that will control foraging workers and newly mated fly-in queens with mound drenches that will control existing colonies. If the soil is not moist, then it is important to irrigate before application or use a high volume application. Apply broadcast treatments at 0.5 to 1 fluid oz. per 1,000 square feet. Use enough finished volume to penetrate thatch or sod. Treat mounds by applying 1 oz of Talstar P per mound in 1 to 2 gallons water by sprinkling the mound until it is wet and treat 3 feet out around the mound. Use the higher volume for mounds larger than 12”. Treat mounds with sufficient force to break their apex and allow the insecticide solution to flow into the ant tunnels. For best results, apply in cool weather (65 - 80 F) or in the early morning or late evening hours."

    Q
What is the best way to eliminate cicada killers?
They are taking over my lawn year after year. Help! They bury in the ground all night and fly around the yard all day. Not good for my son or my dog. They can't go outside during the day, there are too many of these things flying around. Time to eliminate them......
    A
Cicada Killers are actually benificial insects and will not harm you, your son or your dog. They are not aggressive insects just ominous looking because of their size, and you would literally have to take one and force it on your skin to get it to bite you. If you are wanting to eliminate them, the best way to treat is to use a dust in each hole in the yard. This may seem extremely time consuming and tedious but it is truly the most effective and thorough treatment method. Dusting the holes with something like Tempo 1% Dust will allow it to flow through the nest better than a liquid. You could also use the Talstar P or the liquid version of Tempo-Tempo SC Ultra-since it has a quicker knock down to control the surface areas they could land to help control new ones that enter the area. Dust the holes and treat plant/lawn surfaces with Tempo every 30 days through the season. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Yes, Talstar P can be used for fire ant control in the type of sprayer you described, but you will also need to do mound drenching. According to the Talstar P product label, "Fire Ant Mound control is optimized by combining broadcast applications that will control foraging workers and newly mated fly-in queens with mound drenches that will control existing colonies. Q
Wasps in fascia of my home. Sprays don't work, should I fumigate attic? what product?
    A
If you know where the nests are you can apply Tempo 1% dust. We recommned that you use a hand duster and apply a dust such as Tempo dust to the holes where the wasps are going in and out. The dust will help eliminate the wasps in the nest and any other wasps returning to the nest. Tempo dust will stay effective for several months as long as it is dry. We are not aware of a product that would eliminate the wasp pheromone to help stop wasps from returning to a particular area.  After dusting in the void where the wasps have a built a nest you can try spraying the siding with a product such as Talstar P. You can spray once a month and any wasp that lands on treated areas will be eliminated within about 24 hours which should stop new wasps from being able to build a nest.
