ULV, Thermal or Propane Foggers produce micro droplets that are much smaller in size than the size droplets of a mist blower or handpump sprayer.  Fogging tends to move and drift further than a mist due to the droplets being smaller in size. A lot of fogging solutions require the use of kerosene or oil in the mixture which can potentially damage surfaces and often have a strong smell. Fogging Solutions only provide immediate kill and may last anywhere from a few hours to 1-2 days.  
 
Handpump sprayers, backpack sprayers, and mist blowers allow applicators to use microencapsulated insecticides for longer residual outdoors. Using freshwater for mixed solutions allows for applications to be virtually odorless and will not stain or leave an unpleasant scent. Sprayers and mist blowers offer the option of tank mixing other class insecticides for longer and better control. 
 
For example, if treating heavy mosquito populations, we would recommend using 3 products. Talstar P (residual insecticide) with ExciteR (pyrethrin/synergist/knockdown) and Insect Growth Regulator (stops the growth cycle of juvenile insects). These 3 products can be tank mixed in the same tank and applied all at the same time. 

Talstar P is labeled for many beetles but not specifically for the long horned beetle.  However, after doing some research we have found many sites and government studies that list Talstar P as a form of treatment for the long horned beetle.

Talstar P is not labeled for general mites, though mange mites typically are on livestock or pets.  For mange mites, we recommend Tengard SFR which could be used to treat the ground outside, as well as inside the home over a certain area.  Tengard SFR can also be used on a dogs and other livestock (do not use on felines) to kill mites without harming the animal.

Talstar would not be tbe best choice for fleas.  Talstar is a great product for almost any other insect and can be used indoors and outdoors safely.  However, for treatment of fleas the talstar does not have an IGR (insect growth regulator) which is important for the treatment of fleas.  We suggest one of our best selling products for fleas called Ultracide.  It is a product made only for the treatment of fleas and has both an adulticide and an IGR for the treatment of maturing fleas.  It should work great in your garage.  You should treat every 14 days until the problem is gone. 

You can eat the fruit as long as the tree is not sprayed and the soil around the tree is not sprayed. Keep Talstar P out of the trees root zone.

Talstar P is not labeled for use on edible plants and cannot be used on any edible vegetation. Please contact your local cooperative extension for advice on what products are allowed on your herb garden.

Talstar is a water based product and should not damage anything that water itself would not damage. According to the Talstar product label you should apply Talstar no more than once every 7 days. Apply as a coarse, low pressure, crack and crevice or spot spray to areas where pests hide, such as baseboards, corners, storage areas, closets, around water pipes, doors and windows, attics and eaves, behind and under refrigerators, cabinets, sinks, furnaces, stoves, the underside of shelves, drawers and similar areas. Do not use as a space spray. Pay particular attention to cracks and crevices.

The smell and color are not from the Talstar P. Talstar P is a water based product that dries clear and is odorless. It seems like your dog did indeed roll in something that was possibly still damp from the Talstar application, but it is the actual item your pet rolled in (perhaps manure or fertilizer of some kind?) that you have noticed on your pet. We think a bath is in order to wash off any Talstar the dog may have on his coat and to get rid of whatever ever else he rolled in.

Talstar is labeled to apply on turf, ornamentals, trees, and almost any other surface or plant.  It is our best selling product to spray on the yard and on shrubs, bushes, and trees for mosquitoes and other insects that harm grass and trees.  So you don't have to worry about it killing the grass.  The only thing you should not apply Talstar to is a garden with anything edible.

Talstar P is a professional product and it is used by many professional pest control operators to help eliminate roaches. It is also important to use a roach bait gel and an insect growth regulator as part of a roach control program. You need to wait until the bushes and surrounding areas that have been treated with Talstar P are completely dry, which will usually take a couple of hours.

Our suggestion would be Talstar P.  It is our number one selling insecticide and our best selling product for mosquitoes.  It will also kill spiders as well as about 100 other different insects listed on the product label.

Talstar P CANNOT be applied to anything that you will come into prolonged skin contact with, so you cannot apply it to furniture.  It should be applied to cracks and crevices and perimeter of the rooms only.  For treating sensitive areas like your furniture, you should use Steri-Fab which is labeled for ticks and fleas as well as many other pests and can be applied to furniture, mattresses, pet beds, and all other sensitive areas. Talstar P is very safe to use around children and pets once it is dry.  You are correct that you should remove the bird and any other animals and children from the room while you are performing the treatment.  Once the treatment is dry, which usually takes about 45 minutes, it is perfectly safe to place the bird and other pets back into the room.

You should avoid getting Talstar P into swimming pools though small amounts that accidentally get in a pool will be so diluted that there shouldn't be any concern. Talstar P is labeled to be used in food handling establishments and food handling areas but all of the food prep surfaces and food products and utensils must be covered and the application must be kept to cracks and crevices only. Talstar P is only labeled for use in cracks and crevices when using indoors which is why we would have said no to spraying on the surface of a seat (Talstar P is not labeled to spray on any furniture in general). If you choose to spray around or on your A/C unit you should shut it off prior to the application and resume operation after the application is dry. You should not spray the surface of your lawn furniture with Talstar P (or any other insecticide). If the surface has already been sprayed you should thoroughly wash it with soap and copious amounts of water. When used as directed on the Talstar P product label this product  and the dry residual it leaves behind is safe for people and pets.

Talstar typically is mixed at 1 ounce per gallon of water.  A 3/4 gallon jug is 96 ounces, so you could get 96 gallons of finished solution from one 3/4 gallon jug if you mixed at the normal rate of 1 ounce per gallon of water.
