The s systemic action of this product means that it is absorbed through the roots and moves throughout the plant and even protects new growth.
Talstar P Professional Insecticide could be used as topical bark spray on trees that have not been infested with EAB but would not work systemically to eliminate insects inside the tree.
Since systemic products can take several weeks to translocate through a plant, we recommend applying a systemic insecticide with Imidacloprid such as Dominion 2L or Fertilome Tree and Shrub Systemic as a soil drench around the root zone. Application rates will vary with each product so please review the full product labels before purchasing.
We also recommend you contact your local cooperative extension office and speak to the master gardener or entomologist on staff to find out when the best time to apply a systemic and/or a bark spray would be as this varies from region to region. Heavily infested trees may need to be taken down and chipped or burned to help save the neighbouring trees.
