    Q
Lizards under vinyl siding on home, what can we do keep them out of there?
We have a modular home and the lizards crawl between the siding slats on the house.
    A
We can't sale anything to kill lizards. We can recommend to treat the bugs they are preying on. Talstar P will kill the insects they are preying on and thus the lizards should go elsewhere for food.

    Q
My house has a bird mites infestation. What kind of pesticide or miticide should I use?
I read on a website that Talstar works well. Is this true? I desperately need an answer and would like to place an order as soon as possible. Thank you.
    A
Talstar P is not labeled to treat for bird mites so we cannot recommend it for this use.
Below is our best advice regarding bird mites:
It is important to be absolutely sure you are actually dealing with mites. Have the suspected bird mite identified by a reputable source, such as your local cooperative extension office or a reputable pest control operator. Treatments will vary for different pests. Treatment for say bedbugs is much different than the treatment for bird mites.  Removal of the infested nest or bird and a thorough cleanup is necessary. For treatment in the home, we recommend you frequently vacuum all carpet and upholstery and dispose of the bag or vacuum contents in a sealed bag outdoors. Spray Sterifab on couches, chairs and other upholstered furniture where you may spend time resting. Use MotherEarth Dust in all cracks and crevices around the perimeter of the room. Apply a thin coat of MotherEarth dust to rugs and carpets. Rake (not sweep) nap back and forth, causing dust to enter rug or carpet. Let product sit overnight. Repeat application as necessary and vacuum every 3 - 4 days for effective control. MotherEarth Dust does not have a fast knockdown, it can take several days for insects to die after they contact the dust. Onslaught can be used for a faster knockdown. Thoroughly apply as a fine particle broadcast spray using a hand pump sprayer to infested rugs and carpets and other cracks and crevices around the perimeter of each room. Put all clothes through the dryer on high heat to help kill mites and their eggs.We have had many customers use the above recommendations with great success. Most customers report that it can take several months to get rid of all of the mites. Finding and removing the source of the infestation is very important and is the key to getting rid of the mites for good.

    Q
    Talstar for Carpet Beetle
I have a carpet beetle problem in my basement. I have use Talstar outside, but have never used it in my house. The carpet beetles seems to be contained in the basement, part of the basement is carpeted - part is not. Is talstar safe to use on the carpet - I have tried other dusts applied topically to the carpet but they are still there.
    A
While the product will not hurt the carpet, Talstar P is not labeled to be broadcast sprayed over carpeted areas for carpet beetle control. Talstar P can only be used as a crack and crevice application indoors. For indoor carpet beetle control you may want to consider a product such as Nyguard Plus. This product contains an insecticide to kill the roaming adults and an insect growth regulator to stop the harder to kill immature beetles from reaching a reproductive state which in turn will break the cycle of infestation. As an added bonus this product also contains a deodorizer for carpet applications.

    Q
Can Talstar P be used effectively from a backpack fogger?
    A
Talstar can be used in a backpack sprayer or a mist blower like the Solo 451 but it cannot be used in any type of fogging equipment. Please take a look at our Fogging Concentrates to see if any of these might be more suited to your application needs.

  • Asked by Micah from Statesville, Nc

    Q
Talstar P- When to spray and what to wear?
When is the optimal time to spray Talstar P and do I need to wear a respirator when applying the product? Also, How long does it take to dry?
    A
You should wear long sleeves, long pants and socks and shoes when using Talstar P. If you are sensitive you may also consider wearing gloves. A respirator should be used if you are spraying in non-vented areas. You can spray anytime though we do recommend you avoid spraying plants during the sunniest parts of the day because the liquid can magnify the sunlight and cause scorching. Talstar P is water based and will take as long as water would take to dry on any surface, usually about an hour or two.

  • Asked by Lloyd from Fenton, Michigan

    Q
Can I use Talstar in a fogger?
I have an old Burgess fogger.
    A
Talstar is not designed to be used in a fogger of any sort, only sprayers or large mist blowers like a Solo 451. Using Talstar or any other insecticide not designed for a fogger could clog your equipment or lower the efficacy of the product as the ingredient are not designed for this type of application. You may want to consinder some of our Fogging Concentrates to see which best fits your needs and type of fogger. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Q
I have ants pulling sand out from in between my pavers and creating mounds.
I already have talstar-p that i purchased from you. Will that work by applying in the seams or do you recommend something else?
    A
Talstar P will kill the ants that come in contac with the treated area. To eradicate the colony, we would recommend to use a product like Phantom kills by transfer, so they walk right over it and then spread it to other insects hidden behind walls or in their home colony, killing every other pest they come in contact with

    Q
I have tiny insects on the concrete. What are they?
I detected some tiny insects wandering over my concrete. They are under 1 mm even with a magnifying glass you can't really make out details but you can see these tiny black spots marching. They do not jump and their speed is about 1cm / sec or so. I noticed them at a rate of maybe 10 or so per square meter. There is a garden on one side of the patio in case that matters. Can you help me identify these insects?
    A
We are not sure exactly what you are describing....it could be any number of things.  Springtails is what we are thinking of first, but cannot be sure.  Either way, we would recommend Talstar P.  Talstar P is our most popular pest control product and it is very safe to use as well.

What is the best time of the day to apply Talstar P on lawns? Can this be applied all year round?
    A
There is no certain of day that is best for general pest control on lawns, though we do advise not spraying during the heat of day to avoid scorching your lawn. Talstar can be sprayed year round as long as your soil is not frozen.

  • Asked by Mark from Lagrange, Ga
    09/05/2011
    Q
Which is better to use or most powerful, Onslaught or Talstar?
I live in Lagrange, GA. I have spiders and chiggers and want to spray my home inside and out. I just bought this home. The people before me had a dog. It is all oak floors throughout with a crawl space. The crawl space has spiders. I keep getting bit by chiggers but do not know if they are inside or not? I spend time outside in the yard.
    A
Chiggers are not known to infest structures and are most likely outdoors in your yard. Both Talstar and Onslaught are top-notch professional products and both are labeled for chiggers. Onslaught is micro-encapsulated and will last a little longer on outdoor surfaces which does give it a bit of advantage over Talstar P. Treatments for chiggers should begin in May and could need to continue through the summer as new chiggers move into the area. Treating the entire lawn is of little benefit because chiggers avoid direct sunlight and normally will not infest areas that are mowed or otherwise well maintained. Focus treatment on the unkempt areas of the lawn and lawn edge. You can also use Onslaught to do a barrier treatment around the outside of your home and in your crawl space to stop pests from moving indoors.

  • Asked by Suanne from Corpus Christi, Texas
    06/29/2012
    Q
Which is most effective to get rid of ticks?
We had a very bad tick problem and have tried everything. I noticed you have a couple of products for ticks. Which do you prefer I purchase for the tick issue. Thanks for you time.
    A
Talstar P mixed with an Insect Growth regulator such as Nyguard IGR would be a good choice for tick control. Talstar P would work to kill ticks that come into contact with treated surfaces while the Nyguard would work to help stop juvenile ticks from reaching sexual maturity. You should remember that ticks may be hidden in tall or dense brush so higher treatment volumes may be needed to treat the entire plant, not just the top side of the plant where it is easiest to spray. You should try to get the application on the underside of leaves and all the way to the bottom of the plant. We recommend treating the entire infested area (no spot treating). When you are dealing with an area that has a high tick population you may be required to treat once a month from spring through to the first frost, no matter what product you use. Be sure all pets are treated with a product labeled for tick control. The problem on your property may be that ticks are being reintroduced into the area on a consistent basis by wildlife such as deer, raccoons or birds. You will be required to use non-chemical means to reduce the tick population in addition to insecticides. As with most pests you can modify the environment on your property to make it less favorable to ticks. Keeping grass and weeds cut short in tick infested areas increases tick death during hot weather, discourages wildlife and will reduce the amount of vegetation which may need a pesticide application to kill ticks. Clear away yard debris such as old firewood or leaf piles. Remove old or abandoned bird nests and rodent nests. Patch fences where wildlife may be gaining access to your property. It may also be helpful to have the ticks identified. By identifying the type of ticks you can better understand what type of animals may be bringing them to your property and you can modify the environment to make it less favorable for that host animal. You can contact your local cooperative extension office to request an insect identification.

    Q
Where do I spray Talstar P for mosquitoes?
We are building a patio in our backyard for a fire pit. Should we spray the furniture and surrounding fence to keep the mosquitos and other flies away from it? Is it safe to spray on a vinyl fence?
    A
Talstar P can be mixed at 1 oz per gallon of water and be applied once a month to the exterior of the structure. We do not recommend applying it to any furniture. We suggest applying it to all non-edible shrubery and the tree foliage (especially targeting the undersides of the leaves). You can spray around window frames, door frames, the siding and lawn.

    Q
Do you know of any odorless pesticides for spiders and ants?
I currently use a pest control service that uses a concentrate that they add water to and spray along the foundation of my house. It doesn't smell like anything at all. I'm looking to start spraying on my own to save the $80/quarter.
    A

Talstar is a great general pest control product that can treat for over 75 insects listed on the label including spiders and ants. Talstar is odorless, dries clear, leaves no stains, is non-irritating, and will not break down easily with rainfall.

    Q
Will Talstar P (Talstar One) get rid of German roaches?
    A

Talstar P is labeled for roaches but is not the best choice, especially for German roaches, as they typically require a more aggressive treatment. German roaches reproduce at a rapid rate and can be resistant to many products that have been used over time. The most effective way to treat for German roaches is to use a combination of an insecticide residual spray, strong roach bait gel, and an insect growth regulator (IGR).  We would recommend using one of our Roach Control Kits so that you can be sure you have everything you need for a complete roach treatment program. You may also want to look over our Roach Control Treatment Guide for more information.

    Q
Can I spray Talstar directly onto the foliage of flowering plants for Japanese beetles?
    A

Yes, Talstar P Professional Insecticide can be applied to any bushes, shrubs, trees, landscaped areas as well as flowering plants. However, you should minimize the spray on the actual flowering plants as you do not want it to expose the product to any bees that help with pollination. It is recommended that you spray when pollinators are not active, either in the early morning or late evening.
