    A
Talstar XTRA is a granule that would be applied with a broadcast spreader and then watered in by 1/4 inch of irrigation or rainfall to activate the product. Once you have watered in the Talstar XTRA and allow it to completely dry, Talstar XTRA is completely safe for birds, squirrels, rabitts, pets, and family members. Please refer to the Talstar XTRA Product Label for complete use instructions.

    Q
Can Talstar Xtra be used around fruit trees?
    A
Talstar Xtra Granules cannot be used around a fruit tree or vegetable garden but can safely be used in a flower garden. For frui trees and vegetable gardens you can use a product such as Sevin Granules for insect control. As long as you keep the product away from the dripline of the tree you should be able to use the Talstar Xtra granules safely around the fruit tree. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Asked by Hank from The Villages, Fl
    03/06/2017
    Q
What spreader setting do I choose for my Scotts Speedy Green 3000 spreader if I'm applying the Talstar Xtra granules?
    A

The Taltar Xtra bag does not specifically list setting for the Scotts Speedy Green 3000, but it does list the Scotts SpeedyGreen 2000 and its spreader settings. If this is what you meant, or those two spreaders are compatible with settings, you can use setting 2 3/4 for putting out 1.15 lbs per 1000 sq/ft, 5 1/4 for 2.3lbs per 1000 sq/ft, or 9 for putting out 4.6 lbs per 1000 sq/ft. Otherwise if your settings do not match up, you would want to calibrate your spreader for the product. Here are instructions on how to calibrate your spreader.

    How to calibrate your spreader:

Almost all fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, etc have treatments in amounts of so much product per 1000 square feet.  So if you can figure out what your walking speed is then you know anytime you apply any product that calls for so much of it per 1000 square feet, you always set your spreader on this setting.  You can calibrate this by marking off a 1000 square foot (10 x 100) area and placing the required amount of product in pounds in the spreader.  Start with a low setting and start walking your marked off area at a normal pace.  You can adjust as you go and find the basic setting for you to apply the product over a 1000 square feet.

  • Asked by Walter from Jacksonville, Fl

    Q
What are the benefits or disadvantages of the different applications of Talstar P and Talstar XTRA?
    A

Talstar P has a monthly residual on the exterior areas where the Talstar XTRA Granules will last 2-4 months in the lawn. The benefits of treating with the liquid solution is that you could treat the interior cracks and crevices quarterly for pest control as well as on the siding and around entry points (ie window frames, door frames, garage, etc).

  • Asked by Jim from Broomall, Pa
    07/21/2015
    Q
Is mid-July too late to apply the Talstar XTRA granules to help control mole crickets?
    Located in PA.
    A

Using Talstar XTRA Granules to achieve acceptable control of mole crickets is difficult because preferred grass areas are subject to continuous invasion during early spring by this extremely active stage. Application can be made at any season and should be applied as late in the day as possible and be watered in with up to .5'' of water immediately after treatment. If the soil is not moist, then it is important to irrigate before application to the mole crickets closer to the soil surface where contact with the insecticide will be maximized.  Please see the product label for complete application instructions.

  • Asked by Jeff from Knoxville, Tn

    Q
    Talstar for roaches, or not?
In this Q&A thread, you have what seems to be conflicting information. One person asks about "Best granules to stop roaches and scorpions" and the recommended product is Talstar XTRA. Another asks "Will Talstar Xtra repel roaches?", and the response is "Talstar Xtra will not repel roaches nor is it labeled for roach control. We recommend that you stick with a product that is labeled for roaches such as Demand G granules." Can you provide a little more information to help sort this out? Thank you!
    A
Talstar Granules did have roaches on the product label at one time as an insect that it controlled. However, they removed roaches from the granule label because they found it wasn't as effective on roaches as they had previously thought. We recommend DeltaGard G Granules as this product is specifically labeled for cockroaches and works well at eliminating them in lawns and landscape areas.

  • Asked by Mantooth from Loudon Tn

    Q
How would you treat mounds in a horse pasture with Talstar XTRA?
    A

According to the manufacturer, Talstar cannot be used in horse pastures for any purpose.

Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait would be a better choice for you. Extinguish plus can be used on pasture land and there are no grazing restrictions for companion animals. Below you will see the grazing info available on the Extinguish Plus product label. Extinguish Plus combines the power of hydramethylnon with an insect growth regulator (IGR) to kill fire ant workers and prevent queens from laying fertile eggs. The result is complete fire ant colony control. Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait is best used in the spring or early fall, or whenever fire ants are active. The ants will feed off Extinuish Plus and spread the bait throughout the entire colony, halting the infestation within weeks. Extinguish Fire Ant Bait can be used indoors and outdoors on lawns, pasture land, rangeland, landscaped areas, and golf courses.

EXTINGUISH PLUS may be applied to grass forage
(pastures and rangeland) for the control of fire ants
only in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas,
    Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, New
Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina,
Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. Use on grass forage
(pastures and rangeland) in states other than those
listed is unlawful. See Outdoor Use table for
application directions. Do not exceed 8 pounds per
acre per year or more than 4 times a year, with a
minimum re-treatment interval of 90 days. Do not bale
and cut treated pastures and rangelands for 7 days
following application. These cutting and baling hay
restrictions for pasture and rangeland do not apply
when the treated pasture and rangeland is used solely
to support COMPANION ANIMALS (e.g., horses,
llamas, etc.). Companion animals grazed on treated
areas cannot be used for food or feed. EXTINGUISH®
PLUS may be used on uncultivated, agricultural, nonfood
    crop and non-agricultural land.

    Q
I applied talstar to my yard and it rained for two days afterwards. Do you think it washed away?
I'm trying to kill mole crickets and see a couple of the little dirt mounds have popped back up. How long does it take to start working on the crickets?
