Talstar XTRA Granular Insecticide - Questions & Answers

Talstar XTRA Granules are not labled for vegetable gardens. We cannot advise for you to consume anything from the garden after Talstar Xtra was applied. Instead you could use something like Sevin Lawn Insect Granules. If a granule is not necessary, another great option would be the Fertilome Triple Action Plus which can be sprayed in and on the garden for control of insects and vegetable diseases, and the food can be harvested the same day.

Talstar XTRA Granules can be applied every 4 months.

No, they will have no interaction with one another, you are more than welcome to apply Talstar Xtra with your choice of fertilizer at or around the same time. Please read label for application instructions.

According to the Talstar Xtra label, this product should be applied during cool weather between 65 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Most individuals use this product in early spring.

Yes, Talstar XTRA Granules will need to be watered in after application.  Please refer to the product label for complete application instructions. 

When using an insecticide granule like Talstar Xtra, timeing of mowing does not play as important of a roll as it would with weed control products; however we would normally suggest mowing first and then applying the product to the turf and watering it in. 

Your speader setting for Talstar XTRA Granules should be either 2 3/4 for 1.15 lbs per 1,000 sq ft, 5 1/4 for 2.3 lbs per 1,000 sq ft, or 9 for 4.6 lbs per 1,000 sq ft depending on the amount of Talstar XTRA Granules needed for the specific pest.

Yes, Talstar XTRA Granules is labeled for mole crickets, and would certainly take care of them in you lawn. It would also provide you with a 2-3 month residual as well. 

No, Talstar Xtra Granules would not be a good option when treating for termites.  Talstar Xtra Granules and other liquid products that are meant for pest control are applied to the surface of the ground and are really only meant for treating insects that walk across the ground.  Termites enter the home from underground and never make it to the surface of the ground.  Therefore, they never come into contact with the product on the surface.  For proper termite protection, you have to dig a trench and place product in the trench or under the ground.  For treating termites, we recommend Dominion 2L which is one of our best sellers for professional termite protection.  You should also read our "How to do a Termite Treatment" article which will explain exactly how to treat for termites just like a professional company would.

Talstar XTRA Granules can be toxic to bees. We do offer Mavrick which is non toxic to honey bees once dry.

Talstar XTRA will not affect grass seed at all, so you can seed at any time after application. 

Talstar Xtra Granules is a broad spectrum insecticide and would work well to treat the soil the sod webworms are nesting in. The label does not specify what stage of the webworm it treats. The key to Sod Webworm control is focusing on the larvae, therefore while Talstar Xtra is a great produt, depending on the severity of the damage, Provaunt WDG Insecticide might work better as its main focus is the larvae stage of worms and caterpillars.

The larva feed mostly at night. Therefore, controlling sod webworms with chemicals successfully means spraying in late afternoon to ensure ingestion of the poison.

For the moth stage, spraying Talstar P Liquid Insectide to plants, trees, bushes, shrubs, etc and focusing on the underside of the leaves will help with the moth control.

To treat the entire lawn we recommend using Talstar Xtra. Each bag of Talstar Xtra Granules will cover 5,000 to 10,000 square feet. Depending on the pest you are treating, you would use 2.3 - 4.6 lbs per 1000 square feet for most insects (50 to 100lbs are required per acre).

Talstar XTRA Granules is not specifically lsbeled for chiggers.

Talstar Xtra is a fantastic granule.  The Talstar Xtra Granule is made from a clay material that dissolves in under one minute when watered in making sure the active ingredients are delivered quickly and efficiently. As an added bonus the Verge Granule is odor-free and almost completely dustless. Plus, it has a combination of two long lasting quick acting active ingredients.

You can use Talstar P as a broadcast over your entire lawn to help with ant contol at 1oz per gallon of water/1,000 sq ft. You can also use Tastar XTRA Granules as a broadcast over the entire lawn. A 25lb bag of the Talstar XTRA Granules will treat 5,000 to 10, 000 sq feet and can also be used as individual lawn treatments. The granules will last 2-4 months outside as a broadcast treatment. 

Talstar Xtra will not repel roaches nor is it labeled for roach control. We recommend that you stick with a product that is labeled for roaches such as Demand G granules.  Demand G will not repel roaches either but it will kill roaches that come into contact with treated areas.

Talstar XTRA Granules leaves a residual of about 2 months. Rain will not wash the product away during that time frame. 

Talstar XTRA typically lasts 60-90 days.
