    Q
How many acres would 1 bottle of Taurus SC Termiticide cover for fire ants?
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide  is not labeled for fire ants and it is not labeled to be used as a broadcast application, so we are unable to provide this information. We would recommend using Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait. A broadcast treatment across the entire area would be best so that the fire ants do not just move their mounds to other areas. If you do an individual mound treatment, be sure to treat at least three feet out as well. There are no grazing restrictions for companion animals, such as horses. You will use 1.5-2 lbs. per acre for a broadcast application and 2-5 tablespoons for individual mounds.

    Q
Is the Taurus SC safe to spray on base of trees or around trees?
We have a lot of nice, aged pines and some poplars in our backyard. I have extra product so I'm wondering if it would be beneficial to spray the base of the trees including any exposed tree roots. I don't have signs of termite damage on the trees this is just a preventative idea. Is this safe to apply directly to trees/soil around trees, and would this be effective?
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide does list tree treatments on the label. However, it is only labeled for injection applications, and not for a general spray on or around trees.

    Q
How can I treat the inside perimeter of a house with a crawl space with the Taurus SC Termiticide?
    A

When using a product like Taurus SC, so long as you trench the outside wall of the foundation and the piers in the crawl space, you do not have to trench the inside wall of the foundation.

    Q
What is the best product to treat the soil under my above ground pool to protect against termites?
We are replacing the pool liner due to termite damage that has cause the liner to leak.
    A

For preventative subterranean termite treatments, Taurus SC is the best product to treat the soil with. For pre-construction applications, Taurus SC is mixed at 0.8 fl oz with 1.5 gallons of water and applied every 10 sq ft.

    Q
Is Taurus SC safe for honey bees?
    A

Taurus SC is extremely toxic to honey bees and bee populations and should be not used in any areas you are trying to either raise bees or have a large population you are concerned with effecting. Although the Taurus is only for use around the structure and foundation of the home if a bee lands on it in those areas it will die from it and has the ability to spread it to other bees. If you are using Taurus as a trench application for termites it should not be an issue, however if you are using it as a foundation and entry point spray on the home the risk does increase greatly.

    Q
How exactly do you treat the backfill after completing the trenching?
Is it sprayed or doused by bucket again?
    A

Using the hand pump sprayer loaded with one gallon of finished termiticide solution with Taurus SC, spray down the soil as you are replacing it back into the trench. Spray the soil just until moist.

    Q
How would you recommend treating a small shed with Taurus? The shed sits on 4x4 posts set in concrete.
    A

If there is dirt immediately around the posts, then you would trench around the posts with Taurus SC in the same way you would treat around a larger structure. So you would use about 0.5 gallon of solution around each 4" x 4" post (0.4 oz of Taurus in 0.5 gal of water). If the concrete extends out from the posts, then you would not be able to trench there. Instead (or in addition to trenching), you could use Bora-Care to treat any raw wood on the shed to prevent infestation of termites and other wood-decay insects.

    Q
Is there any scenario where I might need trench deeper than 6 inches before applying Taurus SC?
My brick veneer is deeper than 6 inches. I'm afraid the termites are going under the brick somewhere where it meets my poured concrete basement wall and travelling up behind the brick.
    A

Per the Taurus SC Termiticide product label: "Basement Structures: Exterior perimeter: Apply by trenching and rodding into the trench or by trenching along the foundation walls at the rate of 4 gallons of finished dilution of Taurus SC per 10 linear feet per foot of depth, or, if the footing is more than 4 feet below grade treat to a minimum depth of 4 feet. Trenches need not be wider than 6 inches and must be a minimum of 6 inches deep or to the bottom of the footing. When trenching in sloping or tiered soil, the trench must be stepped to ensure adequate distribution and to prevent Taurus SC from running out of the trench. Never treat a structure below the footing. Space the rod holes no more than 12 inches apart in a manner which will create a continuous treated zone. Mix the finished dilution into the soil before replacing it into the trench". Depending on the design of your home, you may need to trench deeper. It is safe to do so if you feel they are getting in under the brick and want to trench to that depth. It should not go below the footing of the home.

    Q
Is it possible for termites to still linger 6 months after treatment?
I was diagnosed with subterranean termites in my hardwood flooring late last summer. I did my own treatment with Taurus SC (mixed double strenght) in the fall. I did the trench treatment and drilled through the carport, patio and porches where the foundation was covered (and spot treated beneath several areas of damaged floor). I replaced a few areas of flooring a couple of months ago and found dead termites by the thousands. I thought everything was okay. Just this morning I found one small area of floor that looked suspicious. Thinking I failed to replace a previously damage piece I pulled it up only to find termites there. Is it possible to still have a few lingering termites this long after treatment? Thanks.
    A

Given that you applied Taurus SC at higher than the label rate, it is possible that the product killed the termites too quickly and, therefore, has results more like a repellent than a non-repellent. This would mean termites coming to the treated area die, but the product would kill too quickly to transfer through the colony and kill the whole colony. It is also possible that the initial termite colony died and there is a new infestation there. I would recommend retreating if you are finding live termites with a ready-to-use product such as Fuse Foam. Fuse has a foaming agent to help treat voids and galleries more efficiently, and it is already mixed so that you do not have to worry about using the wrong application rate.

    A

Taurus SC Termiticide can be applied directly into gallery entrance holes for carpenter bees only. After application, gallery entrance holes should be plugged.  It is not labeled for any other type of bees since it cannot be used on plants or around the yard.

    Q
Can you spray Taurus SC early in the spring prior to ants coming out?
Or is it more effective to wait until they begin to come out? We usually have ant trails in our yard during the summer, and some get inside (but bait traps have been effective for inside in previous years). What is the best, most cost-effective strategy to not have ants inside or out this summer? Taurus for the perimeter? Granules for the lawn too? Phantom aerosol for inside just in case?
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide can be applied around the structure when it is not raining as a perimeter spray for ants. If you have ants in the lawn or inside the structure, we would advise using the other items in our Outdoor/indoor Ant Kit. Please take a few moments to review our treatment article on How to Get Rid of Ants for a successful eradication program. Phantom aerosol can be applied to interior crevices monthly. We do offer insecticide and bait granules for the lawn as well.

    Q
What will be the effect of overspraying Bifen IT with Taurus SC ?
I have sprayed the perimeter of my foundation with Bifen IT. This worked well for Whitefooted ants but not for Carpenter ants. If I spray over this with Taurus SC, will it work effectively for both ants?
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide is a non-repellent insecticide. This means that ants and other insects cannot tell that it is there and they will readily walk over treated areas. It also has a delayed reaction time and a transfer effect which allows the ants time to get back to the colony and spread it around before they succumb to the effects of the product. Bifen IT on the other hand is synthetic pyrethroid which many sensitive insects such as ants can detect. Ants may avoid the areas treated with it and those ants that do cross over treated areas are the only ones that will be killed by the product. Bifen IT does not have a transfer effect so it will not be transferred back to the colony. While the Taurus SC will not actually be deactivated by Bifen IT it will be much less effective if it is over-sprayed with Bifen IT. You can spray Bifen IT on your trees, bushes and lawn for mosquito control as long as you are not actually overlapping the areas where Taurus SC was applied.

  • Asked by Alan from Orlando, Fl
    02/24/2018
    Q
Can Taurus SC be used more than twice per year if using the 0.06% dilution rate?
We live in Florida and the raining season is upon us. Once it begins to warm up during spring/summer it rains almost every other day. Obviously the product should be applied at least 24 hrs before a rain but what happens if it is constantly raining over the summer season? We've only used this as recommended at 0.06% dilution and have done a total of two applications so far about 5 months apart. We did one last fall right as the temps were dropping and again last week as the weather warms up. It is now consistently 85 degrees here in Orlando and I'm afraid the heat and upcoming rain will diminish the product's effectiveness. Should we be using the 0.04% dilution rate instead to allow for 4 applications per year? Will this percent still be effective on the ants?
    A

You may make up to 4 applications a year with Taurus SC if you make a 0.03% finished dilution (0.4 oz per gallon of water). The application will still be effective as long as it's applied 24 hours before rain.

  • Asked by Steve from Riverton, Ut
    01/28/2018
    Q
How long does Taurus SC last outside if it is power-sprayed along a foundation?
    A

Taurus SC has a residual when used on the surface around the foundation of the home of roughly 30-60 days outdoors depending on weather and elements that affect it over time. Due to the reach a product like Taurus has through an insect population with its transfer technology, you may notice the insect population not build back up as quickly and take longer than the 60 days to start seeing new signs of pests even though the residual of the product has been broken down by then. Keep in mind that Taurus SC can be applied 1 foot out from the foundation and 1 foot up using a low-pressure hand or backpack sprayer, per the product label.
