    Does Tengard kill bagworms if sprayed on them and is it safe for the evergreen trees that are infested?
    A

    Tengard SFR is labeled for bagworms and mixed at 4-8 fl oz per 100 gallons of water and is safe for evergreens.

     

    It is important to start control methods before a major infestation occurs. Once the bagworms have matured and have formed the "bag" most chemical control methods will no longer work.

    You can manually control bagworms by simply plucking them off of the infested trees and dropping them into a bucket of soapy water or squishing them.  This control method is most useful during fall, winter and early spring, before the eggs inside the bag have hatched.

    Chemical control may be achieved when the larvae are small and just emerging from the over-wintering bag.  Use a concentrated liquid insecticide such as Talstar or Tempo. Foliage should be thoroughly wetted with the insecticide spray in order to achieve thorough coverage.  When doing an insecticide treatment, timing is key. To find out the correct time of year to treat for bagworms in your region contact you local Cooperative Extension office. These offices can prove to be invaluable when treating for insect pests.

    Can I spray Tengard SFR Termiticide and Insecticide out of a pressure washer?
    I need to get to the tops of the trees about 30 feet.

    Tengard SFR Termiticide and Insecticide should not be applied in a pressure washer. We do offer a Chapin Slide Pump #6002 that reaches over 30 ft which is real helpful for tree applications.

    Do I reapply the same amount of Tengard to the lawn if it rained 4 hours after the original application?
    I live in the tropics, weather is unpredictable. I applied Tengard about 8:00 am but it rained around noon. If the following day is sunny, do apply the same amount of Tengard again?

    Tengard SFR can hold up to rain. It is important to have 24 hours before the application and 24 hours after the application rain free. Check your local weather forecast prior to making the re-application of the product in the lawn.

    I purchased Tengard SFR from you as a pre-treatment against Pine Bark Beetles. How much per gallon?
    The trees are extremely stressed due to Calif drought in the Sierra Nevada Mts, at about 4500ft. We are prohibited from watering the trees, making the situation worse. There are many infested trees in the immediate area. I will be spraying from a hand held hose sprayer, trying to reach as high as possible. Thanks for your expert advice.

    Tengard SFR is a permethrin based product and would be a great choice for helping to prevent an infestation.  The tree should be sprayed from the ground to 15 ft up the trunk to prevent future infestations. You will mix an ounce per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft. We do carry a Chapin Slide Pump Sprayer that will reach over 30 ft! Please let us know if you need anything else.

    How long should it take for ticks to die after applying Tengard SFR Termiticide and Insecticide
    We're hoping to not have to call a professional. We are hoping the Tengard will kill the ticks in our home. We followed the instructions and treated the house, cracks, crevices and floor spaces. How soon should it start to take effect? There's many testimonials about other pests, but very little on ticks.

    Once the ticks come into contact with the areas Tengard SFR Termiticide and Insecticide
    have been applied, they will usually die within 24 hours. Ticks can be a bit harder to control because they have a habit of staying in one place for a long time which of course can be a problem when the place they are sitting is not a treated area. Be sure to do a repeat application in 14 days for best control.

    Yes, you can mix any IGR product with Tengard SFR or Dragnet.  You can actually mix IGR with any insecticide, or it can be applied by itself.

    Tengard SFR is labeled to be used on horses for fly control. According to the manufacturer, you can apply Tengard SFR as directed on the product label as often as needed.

    Will Tengard SFR work for wasps?
    What would you suggest for severe wasp problems?

    Tengard SFR is labeled for wasps. You would use 1 2/3 fl oz of Tengard SFR per gallon of water to make a 0.5% solution to eliminate wasps. We usually recommend using a wettable powder formulation such as Cyper WP for wasp control. Wettable Powders stay up on the surface of porous materials making the product readily available to insects. Neither of these products will offer an immediate knockdown of wasps. The wasps must land on the area that has been sprayed and then have time to succumb to the effects of the insecticide. For an immediate knockdown, use Wasp Freeze to spray the wasps directly. For best results, and to lessen the chances of being stung, treat wasps nests very late in the evening or very early in the morning when the wasps are less active.

    Is Tengard SFR good for bed bugs?

    While Tengard SFR Termiticide and Insecticide is labeled for bed bugs, it is only part of a bed bug treatment program.  We recommend doing a full treatment with one of our Bed Bug Kits, so that you will have everything you need to do a thorough treatment.     I asked earlier if Talstar P was safe to use on outdoor cushions. The response was it is not to be used on
    furniture and what I'm treating for. I am treating for bird mites. I take care of feral cats and they are constantly being infested with bird mites. I am only able to catch one of the cats to treat with Revolution. The cats love to lounge om the cushions. I was hoping for a residual treatment that would be safe to apply to the cushions. If I use DE the cats won't go near the cushions and I want them to be able to as they enjoy sitting on them, in the sun.

    Have you had a proper identification for these pests? It is likely that cats would not carry bird mites. We would recommend getting these identified for sure so that we can give you a proper treatment plan.

    Does Tengard SFR work on mosquitoes and how much do you mix it in 3 gallon sprayer?

    Tengard SFR would not be recommend for mosquito control, however Talstar P would and is our top product for mosquito control as well as many other pests. You would use 1 oz per gallon of water so 3oz for your 3 gallon sprayer. You can see other tips on how best to eliminate mosquitoes in our Mosquito Control Guide.

    How long does it take to kill termites with Tengard SFR?
    I applied tengard sfr as per instructions,10 days ago ,I just found live termites .How long does it take to kill them.

    Since Tengard SFR only kills the termites that actually come into contact with treated areas it is possible that you will see live termites from time to time. Once the termites come into contact with treated areas they will usually die within a day or two.

    Tengard SFR Termiticide and Insecticide is labeled to be used as a dip for dogs. You will mix 4 oz per 20 gallons of water. Make sure all areas are soaked to skin. Let drip dry on animal. Do not rinse off.

    Would a little overspray of Tengard SFR hurt garden veggies?
    I accidentally sprayed a small amount on carrots that we'd like to eat in about 60 days. Will it really be a problem given the Tengard label states it can be used on nut trees, such as filberts and pistachios? According to the Tengard label, it can be used on nut trees.

    Tengard SFR Termiticide and Insecticide is labeled to be applied to non-bearing fruit trees only, with nut trees there is a harvest interval but as the edible portion is encased in a shell it is not being sprayed directly.  It cannot be applied to anything edible.  If vegetables were sprayed by accident it would be recommended to discard them.

    Will Tengard SFR kill active termites when used as a spray?
    A

    If you are just doing a topical treatment with Tengard SFR, if termites come in contact with the treated area, they will die. However, if you are treating for an active infestation, it is recommended that you dig a trench around the structure and pour the solution into the trench. A treatment with this product will last approximately 5 years.

    What should I use for pine tree beetle control in CA?
    I am trying to protect mature, established pine trees from beetles. I understand the application rates, but I cannot find the intervals (how often) Tengard should be applied.Once a year, quarter, month? A separate question is the height of application. The trees I would be applying the insecticide to are 60' to 80' high. I cannot apply into the canopy as recommended. Would 10'-12' on the trunk work? Thanks for you help!

    Tengard SFR can be used monthly as needed for pine tree beetles. There should not be more than 2 lbs of product used per acre per year. You will spray the lower branches and trunks prior to adult emergence.
