Termidor SC is for outdoor use only. Termidor SC can only be used indoors if you are spot treating termite activity inside the house.  You cannot use Termidor indoors as a pest control application or to treat ants, only outside around the perimeter.

    Q
When can you plant edible plants in a treated area with Termidor SC?
We had an exterminator do a treatment on our house in the late spring of 2013. Unfortunately, the only place for a decent garden is along the side of the house. When is it ok to plant veggies and fruit? And what is a safe distance away from a treated area?
    A
You should not plant anything edible in the same soil that was treated with Termidor SC. Termidor SC persists in soil for at least 10 years and it is not labeled to be used in places where edible plants will be grown. If you really do want to plant a vegetable garden in an area that was treated with Termidor SC, you will need to remove all of the soil and replace it with untreated soil. You should note though that if the soil is removed and it is in the termite treatment barrier zone you will be left with a hole in your termite barrier. You should keep Termidor treatments at least 10 feet away from any garden. You must keep any edible garden plants far enough away from the soil so that the roots do not enter that area. Please contact the manufacturer BASF for further instruction 800-526-1072.

    Q
How many gallons of Termidor is needed to treat a 2000 sq. ft home?
What is the average cost to treat this size home by a professional?
    A
Unfortunately the square footage of a house is not the information you need to determine how much Termidor SC you will need. You will need to know how many linear feet you have around the outside of your home to determine how much Termidor SC you will require. After you know how many linear feet you have you can divide that number by 60 and that will give you a general estimate on how many bottles of Termidor you will need. For instance if a house has 230 linear feet I would say 230/60 = 3.83. I would round up to the next whole number and I would need to purchase 4 bottles of Termidor SC. The cost for a pest control company to treat your home actually varies greatly between companies and from state to state but many of our customers report estimates between $1200-$2500. Many companies will offer you a free estimate if you would like to see what it would cost for a pro to treat your home.

    Q
Is Termidor SC effective against White Footed Ants? Do I need to know anything special to treat for them?
    A
Termidor SC is effective against all ants. Termidor SC is the most effective ant treatment product available because it does not just kill the ants that come in contact with it, but it also kills the queen and the rest of the colony when the ant that first came in contact with the product returns to the colony. Be sure to use Termidor SC in a very clean hand pump sprayer. If you use a sprayer that still has remnants of other products in it, you could ruin the way Termidor SC works.

    Q
Time is takes for Termidor Treatment to work?
We had Termidor applied over 2 weeks ago and I am still seeing a massive swarm every morning. How long does it take for the termites to be gone???
    A

Termidor can take up to 90 days to kill the termite colony completely.  It is perfectly normal to still have termites swarm and see activity for a couple of months after the treatment.  This is a good thing, it means the termites are still walking through where the company placed the Termidor.  Termidor does not kill termites right away for a reason.  It takes awhile to kill the termites so they can take it back underground to where the colony and the queen are and spread the Termidor around to the entire colony, thereby leading to devastating effects on the colony.  Termidor is the best termite treatment product available and as long as the termite company applied it correctly, it will no doubt solve your termite problem in due time.

    Q
    Altriset vs Termidor
Can you please explain the difference between Altriset and Termidor? Which one do you recommend for a termite treatment?
    A
Altriset Termiticide and Termidor SC are both used as an outdoor treatment for termites. Altriset is labeled only for subterranean termites. The active ingredient is chlorantraniliprole. Altriset is labeled Reduced-Risk by the EPA and presents no health risk to humans or domestic animals when used as directed. This product is only labeled to last for at least 5 years in the soil. Termidor SC is labeled for all kinds of pests, including termites, ants, crickets, etc. Termidor SC cannot be used on pets for any reason. It does last for 10 years in the soil.

We recommend Termidor SC for a termite treatment due to how long it lasts in the soil.

    Q
What is the best alternative to chlordane? Can you still a form of it?
been told that this application has been banned in this country, what is the best alternative OR Can you still a form of it??
    A
Chlordane was banned many years ago and there are no forms of it left for home or professional use in the US. If you are looking for a termite product that would last a long time, Termidor SC is the product of choice. When applied properly you can expect the product to last for up to 10 years in the soil. If this indeed what you were looking to treat for please take a moment to read our article: How to do a termite treatment

    Q
What happens if it rains after Termidor SC is applied?
Termidor was applied by a professional (Orkin) around the circumference of my home last Tuesday. Application dried however since last Tuesday we have had over one foot of rain (torrential with standing water in same areas that were treated). This was applied to treat active subterranean termites in our home. Have the rains decreased the efficacy of the termidor treatment? Thanks.
    A

For best results, Termidor SC should be applied 24 hours before you are expecting any rain.  After that point the product will not be affected by rain.

    Q
When is the best time of year to treat for termites with Termidor SC?
    A
When it comes to termites, you should never wait as there is never a best time.  Especially if you are worried about activity.  Having said that the dryer the soil the better for Termidor SC when you are using it as a prevention in a trench around the perimeter of the home.  Termidor SC is made to bond to the soil, and the less moisture in the ground, the easier it is for it to take hold and provide long lasting protection.  The only temperature that effects Termidor SC is when it is below freezing.  We recommend reading our 'How to Perform A Termite Treatment' article. It offers information on application, tools needed, product recommendations and other instructions.

    Q
Termidor SC sprayed on attic trusses
I have drywood termites in my home. A large national company wants to spray all the wood roof trusses in my attic with Termidor SC. Is this a feasible and effective treatment for drywood termites? Is this treatment safe for my family's health? Would the same attic spray application using Timbor be a more effective and safer solution?
    A

Termidor is only labeled to be used inside when treating an active infestion but it does not penetrate into the wood.  While we cannot comment on what a professional company is going to do, when treating for an active drywood termite infestation you must treat it directingly.

Both Termidor SC (fipronil for termites) and Bora-Care will work, but Bora-Care is typically the better one to use for this situation. Termidor SC is not a wood treatment product, so for it to work you have to drill holes EXACTLY where the termites are and it has to touch the termites to work.  If you miss where they are, it will not work.  Also, Termidor SC does not really have any residual in the wood, so after you treat inside the wood with Termidor SC and it dries, that wood is exposed for future termite and beetle infestations.

Bora-Care is usually the preferred choice if most of the wood is exposed and it is raw wood you are treating, meaning it is not painted, stained, or sealed, it is just normal wood.  Bora-Care is made only for wood, and you do not have to know exactly where the termites are for it to work which is a plus.  Bora-Care is sprayed evenly over all exposed surfaces of the wood and actually penetrates through the entire piece of wood.  When the termites in the wood try to consume the wood after it has been treated, they ingest the Bora-Care with the wood and die.  No matter where they are in the wood the Bora-Care will find them as long as you treated the exposed wood that you can see.  The other main benefit is that Bora-Care stays in the wood forever, so you will not have to worry about termites or beetles infesting the wood that you treated ever again

  • Asked by Rick from Merritt Island, Fl

    Q
What type of ant bait works for big headed ants?
I have read that big head ants have super colonies and they are in our entire canal neighborhood here in Merritt Island, Fl. I would like to get the proper baits for these types of ants for a wide area to control or even eliminate the colony. What type of baits would work best?
    A
If you cannot find the colonies you should consider using ant baits such as Maxforce Complete Granules and Gourmet Liquid Ants Bait in ant bait stations. Baits tend to work well because they have a delayed reaction time which allows the ants to get back to the nesting site and share the bait with the colony. It is also very important to remove piles of wood, stones and other debris to discourage nesting.  However, one of the best ant control products available is called Termidor.  It is a liquid that is labeled for outside perimeter application around houses.  Unlike most sprays that kill the ants and do make it back to the colony, Termidor is like a liquid bait....the ants carry it back for you and pass it around and eliminate the entire colony.  Termidor is the considered to be the best ant control product ever invented and is widely used by professional companies.

    Q
How do I use Termidor SC to treat and kill fire ants?
    A
We recommend using a fire ant bait granule such as Advion Fire Ant Granules or Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Granules. Both of these are labeled specifically for fire ants and can be used out in the yard as a broadcast or mound treatment. Termidor SC is not a good option for fire ant control because it can only be used on or immediately adjacent to a structure, it is not labeled to be used out in the yard.

    Q
How do I apply Termidor SC when a concrete slab is around my house?
    A
When concrete surrounds a home you must use a hammer drill to drill through the slab and into the soil right up against the home. The holes should not be further than 12" apart and you can use a sprayer that is set on pin stream or you can use funnels and pour the solution into the holes with a bucket. The usage rate will stay the same so you should apply 4 gallons of the solution to every 10 linear feet. (usually works out to be about 1/2 gallon of solution per hole).

How long is Termidor SC good to use? Does it expire?
Does Termidor SC have a "Date Code", a "Manufactured Date", or something which tells the age of the product? If so, how long does Termidor SC (unmixed, kept in a cool place out of the sun) remain usable? Once mixed, how long is the mixed solution good to use?
    A

The shelf life of Termidor Sc is generally 3-5 years. Please make sure to keep the bottle out of extreme heat to ensure the longest shelf life. Be sure to use any mixed solution within 24 hours of mixing.

    Q
    Will Termidor SC kill fleas?
    A
Termidor SC is not labeled for fleas. Fleas tend to live in moist shady areas out in the yard where pets or other animals spend a lot of time resting. Termidor SC however is only labeled to be used in very limited areas on or immediately next to the house or structure making it mostly ineffective for flea treatments. We recommend you use our Outdoor/Indoor Flea Kit to get rid of fleas in and around your home. You should use a topical flea product that is labeled for use on animals such as Petcor if you are trying to rid your pets of fleas.

    Q
What is the difference between Termidor SC and Termidor HE?
    A

Termidor SC is the Suspended Concentrate, which is a liquid concentrate. Termidor HE stands for "High Efficiency" because it is the most concentrated product the manufacturer has with this active ingredient, which is more convenience for Pest Control Professionals who may be treating dozens of homes each week. You cannot purchase Termidor HE unless you have a Pest Control Operator's license, and you would need to purchase it from a local distributor in that case. We do not sell this product or other Restricted Use Pesticides.
