    Q
will this stuff kill wood boring beetles and whats the difference between this and Bora-Care
    A
The Termidor is going to kill some of the population if you directly inject it into the holes and galleries they are eating away, but Boracare is the better product to use. Termidor is not a wood treatment product and is primarily used for soil treatments for subterranean termites. Boracare is specifically formulated for wood and to last for the life of the wood. For Boracare you would mix it at a 1:1 ratio for the active infestation and spray or paint it onto all of the raw natural wood surfaces where you have activity. The Boracare will penetrate into the wood and kill any existing insects, as well as protect it from any future infestations. Feel free to contact us if you have any other questions.

    Q
Suppose I choose to do my own termite control. What sort of expense would I incur? My home is 1750 sq ft.
My home is built on cinderblock with a crawl space. One company wants to drill holes in my concrete slab garage to put down chemicals. Is this really necessary?
    A
Please take a few minutes to read our  How to Perform a Termite Treatment article so you can fully understand what to expect. Most folks who choose to do the treatment themselves can expect to spend between $200-$400 depending on the set up of their home and drill rental if necessary.

    Q
When I receive Termidor, how do I know how much of the shelf life has already been spent on your end?
    A
Termidor is a high moving item so most bottles dont spend more than 1-2 weeks in our temperature stable warehouse. We are unsure how long it sits from the time it is placed in the bottle before it comes to us, but you can always contact the manufacturer with the code printed on the bottle which will tell them when it was produced. Most of the time it is no more than 6 months from time it is packaged to the time you receive it. If you want to check your batch code, contact BASF at 1-800-526-1072.

  • Asked by Kenny from Boynton Beach, Fl

    Q
What is the best way to use Termidor SC and Suspend SC?
I want to spray both Termidor and suspend around the perimeter of my home but I'm not sure what the best method would be. I'm guessing to band one that goes 2ft up2ft out and another band that starts after the 2ft out and no up. But I'm not sure which one should be sprayed where .
    A
If you are having problems with an insect like ants that you need a transfer effect for, you could use the Termidor twice a year around the foundation of your home 2 feet up and 2 feet out. After 30 to 60 days after spraying the Termidor, you could do remedial sprays with Suspend in between to keep insects at bay and out in areas of the yard where the Termidor can not be used. Or, if you are not having a heavy infestation of an insect that would need the transfer of Termidor, you should only use Suspend SC to treat your home and your lawn. You never want to spray the two in the same area or at the same time as the Suspend will take away from the non-repellancy and transfer effect of the Termidor which is what it is used for. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Asked by Brian from Los Angeles

    Q
What are the best treatment for dry wood termites on stained decks & fencing?
    A

Both Termidor SC (fipronil for termites) and Bora-Care will work, but Bora-Care is typically the better one to use for this situation. Termidor SC is not a wood treatment product, so for it to work you have to drill holes EXACTLY where the termites are and it has to touch the termites to work.  If you miss where they are, it will not work.  Also, Termidor SC does not really have any residual in the wood, so after you treat inside the wood with Termidor SC and it dries, that wood is exposed for future termite and beetle infestations.

    Termidor: http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/termidor-sc-p-184.html

Bora-Care is usually the preferred choice if most of the wood is exposed and it is raw wood you are treating, meaning it is not painted, stained, or sealed, it is just normal wood.  Bora-Care is made only for wood, and you do not have to know exactly where the termites are for it to work which is a plus.  Bora-Care is sprayed evenly over all exposed surfaces of the wood and actually penetrates through the entire piece of wood.  When the termites in the wood try to consume the wood after it has been treated, they ingest the Bora-Care with the wood and die.  No matter where they are in the wood the Bora-Care will find them as long as you treated the exposed wood that you can see.  The other main benefit is that Bora-Care stays in the wood forever, so you will not have to worry about termites or beetles infesting the wood that you treated ever again.

    Q
How do I spray Termidor after I drilled a hole in the concrete slab?
    A
You can apply Termidor SC in drilled holes using funnels and pouring the finished solution into the holes. It would take you a long time if you were spraying the product in the holes.

  • Asked by Belinda from Long Beach, Ca
    10/14/2013
    Q
Can Termidor SC be used on exterior wood?
    A
Termidor SC is not a wood treatment product and will not penetrate into wood if you are trying to treat for an active infestation.  It is meant to be applied to soil.  So spraying Termidor on exterior wood or any other surface will not do much.  If you are trying to take care of termites in wood, then you have to drill holes into the wood and inject the Termidor directly.  It has to come into contact with the termites in the wood to be effective.
If you are looking for a long lasting product to treat or protect wood you should check out Bora-Care.

    Q
Recently leased a home and found that it is infested with roaches. What products do I use for indoor and outdoor treatments?
    A

We recommend that you treat the inside and the outside of the home with one of our Roach Control Kits. They include an insecticide, an insect growth regulator (IGR) and a roach bait gel. Termidor SC can be applied only on the outside of the home once every six months (1 ft up and 1 ft out directly around the structure). Below are some great articles with information on the treatment for roaches that you might find extremely helpful. Please read the product labels for each product for specific application instructions. If you need additional advice, please contact us at 866.581.7378.

    Q
What can you recommend for an in the house termite problem.
I would like to purchase something for both outdoor and indoor termites. Can you make a recommendation? Thanks.
    A
If you have termites in your home, we recommend doing the liquid treatment as outlined in the "How To Do A Termite Treatment" article and then inside the home where you know you have the termites you will treat them directly by injecting the Termidor SC into the wall stud by drilling right into the gallery where they actively are or however you can get the product to the termites. It only needs to touch a few termites to work.

  • Asked by Izak from Ep Tx

    Q
Can Termidor SC be used as a "frame up" treatment, before drywall is put up
    A

Termidor SC when applied to wood would only last about 90 days and would not be used as pre-treatment for wood.

Bora-Care is usually the preferred choice for pre-treating wood that is exposed and it is raw wood you are treating, meaning it is not painted, stained, or sealed, it is just normal wood.  Bora-Care is made only for wood.  Bora-Care is sprayed evenly over all exposed surfaces of the wood and actually penetrates through the entire piece of wood.  For frame up, you would apply to the bottom 2 feet of wood.

We also have a great article here about Barrier and Soil Treatments for termites that might be helpful.

    Q
Can Termidor be applied over crushed stone?
Our home is surrounded by crushed stone and really can't be trenched. Can we pour the solution over the stone to be effective? Can we also treat our flower beds which have wood mulch and wood boards? We have noticed termites there last year. Thank You.
    A
To effectively apply Termidor as a termite treatment,  you would need to remove the stone and then apply termidor in the soil. Termidor is not labeled for use on trees and plants.  It is only labeled for use around your homes foundation for termites, ants, and other selected pests.  For treating lawn, turf, and ornamental plants, trees, and shrubs that do not contain anything edible, you should Talstar Insecticide.

  • Asked by Virgil from San Antonio, Texas
    05/08/2014
    Q
What if trenching is not possible. Will periodic spraying keep termites at bay?
I realize the 6x6 trenching is the recommended way, but that is not possible in some areas around my house. Only option is periodic spraying the exterior foundation, cracks and crevices.
    A
Termidor SC can only be applied to the top of the soil when you are using it as a perimeter pest control treatment against ants and other pests.  If you are using Termidor SC to treat for active termites, or to protect your home against termites, you must apply the product into a trench.  This is because termites do not walk across the ground like other insects do, they live beneath the soil and enter your home below the grade level of the dirt.  Therefore, you must place the Termidor SC into the ground to have a chance at them coming into contact with the product.  Please read our informational article written for homeowners:  "How To Do a Termite Treatment" which will tell you how deep to dig the trench and how to properly apply Termidor around your home.  If you cannot trench the area you may consider the bait stations as an alternative.

    Q
Does the temperature of the water I mix termidor (or any concentrate) matter?
Its probably a dumb question lol but the first time i mixed up some termidor I used the hose that had been sitting in the sun, and the water was just a little past lukewarm. Does it really matter what the temperature of the water is when I mix a pesticide in general? Should it be cold or warm or does it not matter? Thanks!
    A
You are corerect, The temperature is not an issue when mixing most products and most of the time we suggest something along the lines of warm or room temperature water.

    Q
If termites are coming into a room through a vent opening, how should Termidor be applied?
    A

You will need to determine what kind of termite you have for us to direct you on the best treatment method. Bora-Care is usually the preferred choice if you are dealing with Drywood Termites and if most of the wood is exposed and it is raw wood you are treating, meaning it is not painted, stained, or sealed, it is just normal wood.

If you have subterranean termites in your home, we recommend doing the liquid treatment as outlined in the "How To Do A Termite Treatment" article and then inside the home where you know you have the termites you will treat them directly by injecting the Termidor into the wall where the termites actively are or cutting a hole into the wall and spraying on the wood or however you can get the product to the termites. It only needs to touch a few termites to work.  If you do not know where the termites are actively infesting we do have a great article here on how to do your own inspection.

  • Asked by Dawn from Monclova, Ohio

    Q
Did a trench treatment for termites. Stormed the rest of the day. Will this ruin the effectiveness of Termidor
Termites found around the frame of a vinyl clad basement window. 6 - 8 inch deep trench dug, out 6 feet on either side of the window. Back filled the trench. Two hours later the rain started and continued all day. Should I treat again? How will this alter termidor's effectiveness?
    A
Since you were able to add the back fill before the rain, your Termidor Termite barrier should be fine. You may want to re spray the perimeter 2 feet up and out in 6 months. Please call us at 866-581-7378 with any questions.

    Q
I would like to backfill the application trench it with fresh gravel, is this a good idea?
    A
No, it is not recommended to backfill the termite trench with rock or gravel. Termidor SC is made to bind to soil molecules which allows it to last for 10 years whereas Termidor applied to porous surfaces such as roack and/or gravel will only last and remain effective for a few months.

How can I tell if Termidor 2 is fresh is there a manufacture date on the bottle?
BASF says Termidor SC has a 3 year shelf life and less if exposed to sunlight. How can I know for sure when this product was made?
    A
We would recommend contacting the manufacturer directly to find out when something was made. They would better be able to assist you with what information they need off the bottle. Their phone number is 1-800-526-1072.

  • Asked by George from Tempe Az

    Q
Can Termidor SC be applied more than 48 hours before a preconstruction slab is poured?
What is the recommended time frame to treat preconstruction slabs with termidor SC?
    A
Termidor SC needs atleast 24 hours to bond to soil before pouring a concrete slab. You should apply Termidor SC at the rate of 1 gallon per 10 square feet.  You should apply slightly more around the perimeter edges and around any plumbing pipes or expansion joints that will be in the slab.
