    Q
I have a 30 foot white pine tree that has fallen in a wind storm. When I went to remove it I found the base and stump are infested with termites
When I went to remove it I found the base and stump are infested with termites. How should I treat this stump to kill the colony and avoid spreading to nearby trees. This is a tree lined property line of more than 30 trees.
    A

Termidor SC cannot be used in tree stumps but you could use another product called Dominion 2L.  You can drill into the stump and then inject Dominion 2L into the stump where the termites actively are using a hand pump sprayer. You can also choose to trench around the stump and apply the product to the trench. Dominion will help to eliminate the colony below ground as well as those in the stump.  Termites do not attack live, healthy trees so there is nothing that you can really do to protect the any nearby trees.  They are natures recyclers so they go after dead/decaying wood more.

    Q
Can a public building be treated with Termidor by an unlicensed applicator?
A pest company gave my employer a bottle of Termidor SC to kill crazy ants. It was sprayed in the building on several mornings as we came into work Is this safe?
    A

Termidor SC is only labeled to be used outside for ant control and cannot be used inside in any way for crazy ants. Products must be applied as directed on the product label. You would need to check with your local regulations regarding what an unlicensed person can legally apply to a public building in your area.

    Q
Can I spray a wood fence that has termites?
It's on top of cinder blocks.
    A

Termidor SC works best if applied in a trench around the fence post or in this case Cinder blocks. If you want to treat the damaged areas directly then you can drill and inject Jecta

  • Asked by Jeremy from Englewood

    Q
Can I mix and apply both Termidor SC and Talstar P outside at the same time?
I am primarily treating for ants and stink bugs.
    A

There would be no valid reason to mix Talstar P and Termidor SC together.  This would nullify the non repellent factor of the Termidor SC.  Termidor can only be used 1-2 feet up and out around the home and around entry points for pests and would be the better product for ants, but is not labeled for stink bugs. If you are looking for a product that you can use more freely around your home for ant control as well as other insects, then the Talstar P would be the better option to stick with.

    Q
Can I use Termidor on my lawn for fleas too? Is it safe for my dogs?
    A

Termidor is not labeled for use on turf.  It is only labeled for use around your homes foundation for termites, ants, and other selected pests. It is important to read and follow the Termidor SC product label? which states that you can only treat one foot up from and one foot out from where the ground meets the structure. The animals need to be out of the area while the product is being applied and they should not come back into the area until it is dry. Since Termidor is a non-repellent product you would not want to apply anything repellant as it will null that affect.  For flea and tick control outside you can use the Outdoor Flea Kit

    Q
Can I use Termidor SC as a spot treatment?
I have walkout basement and I am sure the termites come from front yard of house, can I just do Termidor SC spot treatment front side foundation only? thanks...
    A

Unfortunately, for Termidor SC to be used as an effective barrier for your home against subterranean termites you would need to use it around the entire perimeter of the structure using the trenching method.

Please see the termite treatment video attached for more detailed instructions.

    Q
Can Termidor SC be used to treat carpenter bees?
    A

Termidor SC will kill carpenter bees, but it really is only labeled to be applied 1 foot up and 1 foot out around the perimeter of a structure. It would be better to use our Carpenter Bee Control Kit instead.

  • Asked by Bob from Baton Rouge, La

    Q
Can I add soil around slab treated with Termidor?
The ground is sinking around my slab and I need to add soil you can see under slab a little bit. Can I add soil around slab treated with Termidor? Will this affect the barrier the pest control company dug a trench around my house and treated with Termidor? Do I have to retrench or can I just add soil treated in a wheelbarrow with Termidor?
    A

Anytime you are adding soil on top of soil that was previously treated with Termidor SC, you need to be sure to also treat that new soil so it is still protected.   We recommend applying the Termidor SC in a trench with the soil that is and will be directly up against the foundation of the treated structure. Please refer to the termite treatment article for full instructions on treatment

    Q
If an Herb and Vegetable garden has been treated with Termidor how safe is soil after 2 months?
I am looking at pulling out the existing herbs and vegetables (haven't eaten any) and replanting new ones in say 2 months time. Would the soil be safe to do this is or is there a residual left in the soil from the Termidor and if so any idea for how long I have to wait before it will be safe?
    A

Termidor SC binds with soil and can stay in the soil up to 10 years. We highly recommend to contact the manufacturer BASF 800-526-1072 since it was applied in an off-label manner.

    Q
Can I mix Termidor with a weed killer?
I am working around several large warehouses and would like to do both at once to save some time.
    A

Due to the nature of Termidor SC it would not be advisable to mix it with anything else. Adding in other products could decrease the non repellency effect of Termidor SC.

    Q
    Does Termidor SC kill scorpions?
    A

No, Termidor SC is not labeled for scorpions.

We would recommend using Cy-Kick CS. This is a residual product that can be used indoors and outdoors for scorpions. The mixing ratio is 1-2 fl. oz. per gallon of water.

  • Asked by Tara from Rochester

    Q
Do I need to remove rocks and weed fabric before applying Termidor for small carpenter ants?
I have found a colony of small carpenter ants under my weed fabric and landscape rock. Do I need to remove that before applying termidor or can I spray over the rocks and weed fabric?
    A

When using Termidor SC for ant control, you want to make sure the ants are contacting the treated area. If they are traveling on top of the rock and fabric topical application is fine. If not, you would need to take the material back and then apply and replace.

  • Asked by Raj from Lake Mary, Fl

    Q
Do I need a new sprayer to use Termidor SC?
I have problem of carpenter ants and bought Termidor SC from local DIY pest store and the guy at the store told me that I would need a new sprayer dedicated to Termidor SC. Is that correct?
    A

While Termidor SC is a non repellent insecticide and most others are repellent, as long as you are thoroughly rinsing the sprayer between products it should be fine.  We would recommend triple rinsing all parts of the sprayer before changing products.

  • Asked by Dean from Texas
    01/26/2017
    Q
If I can see where the termites are entering, why is it necessary to trench with Termidor SC?
    A

We recommend trenching with Termidor SC because it binds to the soil and creates a continuous barrier. Most members of termite colonies remain hidden and there are often multiple colonies, so if you only treat one area where you visibly see them, there is no way to ensure that all the termites will encounter the amount of Fipronil needed to eliminate a colony. While Termidor does have a transfer effect, the idea is to create a barrier and as the termites travel through the treatment, they will absorb enough of the active chemical used in the treatment and then die.

Can I use Termidor SC inside my home to kill roaches?
    A

Termidor SC is labeled to control roaches but it is not labeled for indoor use. • Asked by Heather from Portland, Or
    02/13/2017
    Q
Is there a product we can use during the rainy season to treat ants?
In the northwest, when it rains, it pours. It's hard for the soil to dry out enough to use Termidor SC. Is there something we can use in the rainy season? We applied a light spray of Termidor last summer, and the ants came back right when the rains started to fall! Should we have applied a heavy, saturated treatment during the summer so that it would last thru the rainy season?
    A

A good option would be to use granules, such as Demand G Granules. They can be applied around the perimeter of your home outdoors to control ants. This product does need to be watered in for it to be activated so during the rainy season, this would be ideal until it dries up and you can use the Termidor SC.
