    Leaching to adjacent plants with Tordon RTU Specialty Herbicide
    I have many buckthorns that sprout within other bushes like lilacs and boxwoods around my house. If i cut the buckthorn stalk (< 1 inch diameter), and paint on the cut limb, would the tordon leach from the buckthorns root system to the intertwined root system?

    Tordon RTU Specialty Herbicide does not list buckthorn as a controlled plant, but it is not recommended to use around any desirable vegetation because possible leaching may occur.

    I suspect a neighbor might be trying to kill off my trees using a restricted poison like Tordon so I need to know how to prove it.

    Tordon RTU Specialty Herbicide effective in killing over 20 different woody species and preventing sprouting of cut trees in non-crop areas like forests, right-of-ways, roadsides, and fence rows. Complete list of controlled trees can be found on the product label.

    How long after applying Tordon RTU can I grind a cotton wood tree and still have full effect?
    The stump is about 10" I'm diameter

    Tordon RTU Specialty Herbicide does not list cottonwood tree as a controlled tree.  How long it takes to completely kill a tree depends on the size of the tree and health of the listed trees on the label.

    I have wild trees growing under my arborvitaes, if I cut them and use Tordon RTU, is it gonna kill my arborvitae?
    A

    Tordon RTU Specialty Herbicide can affect plants in the area where you have treated the stump after cutting down the trees if the stumps roots are in the same area as desirable plant roots.  Untreated trees/plants can occasionally be affected by root uptake of this herbicide through movement into the the topsoil or by excretion of the product from the roots of nearby treated trees. You should not apply Tordon RTU within the root zone of desirables unless such injury can be tolerated. Tordon RTU also is not labeled for use in residential areas due to its long half-life and this possibility of movement in the soil.

    Does the cut stump have to be flat or can it be cut at 20 to 30 degree before using Tordon RTU?
    Does the cut stump need to be flat or can it be cut at 20 to 30 degree angle due to being cut with a air powered 6' loper

    It is recommend cutting off the top layer of the stump flat for a fresh application of Tordon RTU. You can also do application by drilling holes into the top surface of the stump. If you have any further questions please contact the manufacturer Dow Agrosciences at 800-992-5994.

    What precautions should be considered when burning a stump treated with Tordon?
    There is a stump I treated 2 months ago that I am considering burning and want to know if this can be done safely.

    I am cutting down a voluntary trees within my arborvitae's. Am I safe to paint Tordon on those newly cut trees?

    Tordon RTU is not labeled to control voluntary trees.  The product label states: Untreated trees can occasionally be affected by root uptake of herbicide through movement into the the topsoil or by excretion of the product from the roots of nearby treated trees.     Is Tordon RTU Specialty Herbicide safe to use if you have dogs?
    A

    Tordon RTU Specialty Herbicide will be safe as long as it is applied correctly and you keep your pets out of the area while making an application and let it all completely dry before letting them back outside. Typically after a few hours.

    Tordon RTU Specialty Herbicide is labeled to be used on woody plants and trees such as: ailanthus, alder, aspen, birch, cedar, cherry, dogwood, elm, firs, green ash, gum, hawthorn, hickory, hornbeam, maples, oaks, pecan, persimmon, serviceberry, sourwood and sweetbay.   It may kill other stumps but we cannot say for sure it would work on those not listed on the label.
     
    Please view instructions on the product label for targeted woody plants control by Tordon in either a Tree Injection Treatment, Frill or Girdle Treatment and Stump Treatments.

    Will Tordon RTU Specialty Herbicide kill a 100 year old Black Walnut Tree?
    A

    Tordon RTU Spray is not labeled for Walnut Trees therefore we cannot confirm if it would be effective in killing the tree. Black Walnut tree roots can spread out 50-80ft from the tree and are known for resprouting. The most recommended treatment is to cut the stump as low to the ground as possible and apply a product with the active ingredient Glyphosate directly to the freshly cut stump. Direct stump treatments is going to be your best option and will take several months and maybe longer since this tree is so old. Roundup QuickPRO has Diquat as 1 of the 2 ingredients works for a faster knockdown and absorbs throughout the root system better. Drilling into the stump is also sometimes done for the herbcide to absorb quicker into the tree.

    Tordon RTU Specialty Herbicide application to new shoots and water sprouts?
    I found your product weeks AFTER I paid to have a large steep area (former railroad bed cut) trimmed of Maples and other woody brush. It's early Fall here in the PNW. What now? I cannot access all the cut stumps on this steep hillside, made even more treacherous now by the “Chop,spread and scatter” method employed that left downed saplings and branches everywhere. Can I spray this product on new tender growth in the Spring to control new growth? These nuisance, non-native trees grow up to block our gorgeous view of the Puget Sound every 5 years or so. Thanks!

    What is the different between Tordon RTU Herbicide and Torton RTU Specialty Herbicide to kill alder tree
    A

    If you are asking the difference in the bottles, Tordon RTU Specialty Herbicide is now produced under Corteva, so the label has been updated to reflect this. The product has not changed, just the appearance of the label from the red Dow label to the new green Corteva label.

    I cut down a crepe myrtle and multiple suckers are popping up.
    The suckers are 1/8 to 1/4 thick. Will this product permanently kill the crepe myrtle?

    Tordon RTU Specialty Herbicide is not labeled to control crepe myrtle so we cannot recommend it.  Tordon RTU should not be applied on residential or commercial lawns or near desirable trees and shrubs.  We recommend using a stump killer and apply it to the freshly cut stump to help prevent any regrowth or use a product like Sucker Punch Ready to Use to inhibit sprouts from growing.

    Tordon RTU Specialty Herbicide is not labeled to treat cattails and may be toxic to fish and aquatic invertebrates. Do not apply directly to water, to areas where surface water is present or to intertidal areas below the mean high water mark. Drift and runoff may be hazardous to aquatic organisms in water adjacent to treated areas as well.
