The Solo 451 Back Pack Sprayer is used to do overwintering treatments and mosquito treatments. Today we are going to show you how to fill it up and get it started. There's a few things you need to know before you start the Solo 451 up.  If you fill it up with liquid before you check the shut off switch, all the liquid will run out of the sprayer.  SO you first want to check and make sure that shut off switch is in the off position so you don't spill liquid all over the floor. The second thing you want to check is to make sure the On/Off switch is in the off position before we begin filling it with liquid.

In order to fill up the Solo 451 the first thing we want to do is take the cap off the back and you'll look in there and you'll see there's a screen in there to prevent big debris from falling in.  The Solo 451 is a 4 gallon backpack sprayer, so what we want to do is we want to fill it up exactly half way full of water.  After we filled it up halfway full of water we want to take our chemical, in the case it's Talstar P which is your Bifenthrin, which is mixed one ounce per gallon.  We want to put in four ounces.  Then we will top off the sprayer with the additional two gallons of water required for proper mix.  The Solo 451 is geared a little bit different than most lawn mowers and other yard equipment.

When you start the 451 what you want to do is gently pull it till you feel it's tight and slowly pull steady.  Do not jerk it, it will break the string and it will break the inner controls.  You want to just pull it slow and smooth.  It's geared to start that way.  We recommend you place the 451 Solo Backpack either on a picnic table or the tailgate of a truck before placing it on your back.  The reason we suggest this is because for gallons of water is 40 pounds plus the backpack that's another 40, you've got 80 pounds. You don't want to loose your balance, slip, or hurt your back.  On the very end of the Solo 451, you'll find a setting that is between 1 and 4.  This controls the amount of liquid that is added into the air stream. One being the least amount of liquid and four being the most.  I would suggest you start at one and see what it looks like and if you need to add more liquid to the stream, you can change it at that time.  The 451 has pistol grip handle and in it is a trigger.  The trigger controls the throttle.  If you pull it in the throttle goes up which will give you more air stream and if you let off it will idle, go to idle.  Also right there that you can flip with your thumb, is the On/Off switch which controls the flow of the pesticide into the air steam.

The 451 can be used to spray the tree line for mosquitoes.  Mosquitoes live on the underneath of leafs.  So what you'll want to do is spray for the ground up to about six to eight feet and make sure to get the underneath of all the leafs.  As you'll notice, the 451 does an excellent job of getting up under everything.  You can also use the 451 to spray your house to prevent Lady Bugs and Stink Bugs from overwintering.
