Product Overview

The Anderson’s Weedgrass Preventer is specially formulated to help control nuisance annual weed grasses on golf courses and residential lawns to keep your turfgrass healthy. Its active ingredient Bensulide effectively controls and suppresses barnyardgrass, crabgrass, green foxtail, yellow foxtail, and annual bluegrass without harming desirable turf. It may be applied using a push-type spreader or a tractor-drawn spreader prior to germination in the spring, fall, or winter, or in late summer or early fall for effective control of Poa annua. It is recommended to water in for at least 10 to 15 minutes to make it properly work. Available in 37 lb. bag that can treat up to 11,000 sq. ft.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE:

It is a violation of federal law to use this product in any manner inconsistent with its labeling. Not for use on turf being grown for sale or other commercial use as sod, or for commercial seed production, or for research purposes. Controls these weed grass as they sprout, without harm to desirable turf:

  • Barnyardgrass, green foxtail, Crabgrass, yellow foxtail, Poa annua

To control other weed grasses listed above, apply in the fall, winter or spring prior to germination.

For most effective control of Poa annua (annual bluegrass), apply in late summer or early fall before germination and repeat early.

This product may be only applied by a tractor-drawn spreader or by push type spreader.

For use only on golf courses (greens, tees and bentgrass fairways only) and on residential lawns.

Application on bentgrass fairways is limited to the following states: OH, PA, NY, MI, CT, MA, IN, IL, NJ, WV, MN, WI, VT, NH, RI, DE, MD, VA. Applications on bentgrass fairways may only be made in the Fall and are limited to one application per year.

Applications to greens and tees are limited to two per year.

Product may be applied to either moist or dry turf.

PRECAUTIONS:

IMPORTANT: THIS PRODUCT WILL NOT WORK UNLESS IT IS WATERED IN FOR 10-15 MINUTES. FOR SAFETY REASONS, WATER THIS PRODUCT IN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE FOLLOWING APPLICATION FOR 10-15 MINUTES AND DO NOT ALLOW CHILDREN OR PETS ON TREATED AREAS UNTIL DRY FOLLOWING THE WATERING.

WATERING-IN MUST BE PERFORMED BY THE COMMERCIAL APPLICATOR OR THE COMMERCIAL APPLICATOR MUST PROVIDE THE ABOVE WATERING-IN INSTRUCTIONS TO THE RESIDENT IN WRITING USING BOLD FACE TYPE AND/OR RED PRINT OR OTHER METHODS TO ENSURE WARNING IS PROMINENTLY DISPLAYED ON THE MATERIAL PROVIDED TO THE RESIDENT.

Do not apply this product in a way that will contact workers or other persons.

Do not use on parks, recreation areas, or other public sites.

Do not use on putting greens composed of about 50% or more of Poa annua.

On newly planted areas, wait until the grass has been mowed at least twice and has made good coverage. On newly planted dichondra no waiting is necessary.

Where bermudagrass has been thinned out 25% or more by winter damage, diseases or insects, withhold application until desired filling-in and rooting is achieved.

After application, avoid any severe aeration or raking which might disturb the surface and break the chemical barrier.

Delay seeding, sprigging or sodding for four growing months after application. Applications should not exceed twice yearly

Environmental Hazards:

This product is toxic to fish and aquatic vertebrates. Do not apply directly to water or to areas where surface water is present or the intertidal areas below the mean high water mark. Do not contaminate water when cleaning equipment or disposing of equipment washwaters. Do not apply when weather conditions favor drift from the treated area. This product is highly toxic to bees exposed to direct treatment or residues on blooming crops or weeds. Do not apply this product or allow it to drift to blooming crops or weeds if bees are visiting the treatment area. This product may impair reproduction in birds if used during the breeding season.
