Would a base band application of a product be satisfactory?
While you can do a soil drench with an imidacloprid product such as Bayer Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed II Concentrate, this treatment probably will not eradicate red oak borers which have already infested your trees. If trees are heavily infested, then they were probably already susceptible to the insects due to disease or other stress, and it is best to remove those trees. For prevention, you can use a pyrethrin spray such as Permethrin SFR in Spring and again later in the Summer to help prevent this pest from infesting other trees. This article has more great information about the life cycle and habits of this challenging pest.
