James from Irvine, Ca (university Of Ca. Irvine) writes

Will Essentria D Dust damage archived papers that are several centuries old?

Some documents delivered to the University Special Collections are infested with silverfish. CA State Law requires EPA Reg. pesticides to have the user trained in Hazcom. We want a product that will not damage ancient manuscripts and is NOT EPA Reg.

Answer:

Essentria D Dust is an all natural product that is EPA exempt but it is meant for cracks and crevices and not for treating papers as the oils in the product could damage them.  Dekko Silverfish packs could be used and do not have restrictions for use in CA and would be safe to use around papers. We wouldn't advice putting anything directly on the documents but would advise to clean by whatever means you normally would, like a soft paintbrush, etc and inspecting thoroughly. Then wash/treat the containers they were in and use the Dekko packs for any lingering in the area.
