Would Merit 2F control a gypsy moth infestation on oak trees? If so, when would be best time to apply?

Gypsy moth caterpillars have been decimating the 60+ oak trees on property. Have been using bands treated w/ Suspend SC which will stop ones that come into contact w/ band but does not control caterpillars 50' up tree. What is best way to treat caterpillars 50' up tree? Thank you

Answer:

Merit 2F Insecticide is not labeled for gypsy moth caterpillars, so we do not recommend it for this application. Typically for caterpillars, you would use a Bt product such as Monterey BT or DiPel PRO DF. These products must be applied topically to control the caterpillars. Unfortunately, we do not know of a systemic insecicide that will control this pest.
