    Q
After I apply Advion Ant Bait Gel, how long is it active?
    A

Ant bait gel such as Advion Ant Bait Gel will be most attractive for about the first 2 weeks, but up to one month. You should reapply gel as long as you see ants in the area that are consuming the bait. Older bait still has active ingredient that works, but the food attractants will begin to get stale and less attractive over time.

    Q
Are the Advion ant and roach formulas the same?
    A

The Advion Roach Bait Gel and the Advion Ant Bait Gel both have the same active ingredient but the inert ingredients are different and are designed to attract either roaches or ants only. They would not be interchangeable for either pest.

    Q
The ants used to flock to Advion Ant Bait Gel but now they avoid it, why?
    A

Ants generally look for either a sugar or a protein food source. Advion Ant Bait Gel is a sugar. We always recommend using something like Advance 375A Select Granular Bait in conjunction with the sugar bait. This will take care of both of their food sources. Please check out our Ant Guide as well for tips on how to prevent and treat for ants.

  • Asked by Ron from Thousand Oaks / Newbury Park, Ca

    Q
Bought the Advion bait gel and have seen no effect on little black ants. Is there another bait product I should use?
Live in Newbury Park, CA. (Thousand Oaks, CA area) Have these little black ants that come in (maybe to get away from heat or too much water). Advion gel did not work. Was this the wrong product? What would be a better general prdiuct for them to take back to colony to wipe it out?
    A

There could be a couple of different reasons why the Advion Ant bait may not seem like its working for you. If they are going to it a little but you are still seeing activity of ants, it is likely because the product has not been down long enough for an entire colony to be eliminated. It can take at least a month if not longer for you to see an ant colony diminish or be gone from your home completely. If you aren't sure where the ants are coming from there could be multiple colonies or satellite colonies that are utilizing items in your home including the bait as a food source to sustain themselves which will take longer for the whole population of ants to be eliminated.

Another possibility is if you are only using a bait gel (which is a sugar based bait) and the ants are looking for a protein right now (which is normally a granular bait like Advance 375A) then they will pass by that gel all day long if that is not the nutrient they need. Now their nutritional needs for the colony to grow can change on a day to day or week to week basis. This is why we normally recommend putting down both a sugar and a protein bait at the same time to accomodate any needs the ants have and want. We go over this and other recommendations and tips in our Ant Control Guide.

If for any reason the ants dont go to a gel or a granular bait then you would need to get the type of ant you have ID'd. There are certain types of ants that do not readily accept baits because they make their own food. We recommend that you get the small ants identified to see if this may be your problem. You can contact an entomologist through your local cooperative extension office to get an insect identification. If you do have a species of ant that doesn't accept bait you can always use a product such as Termidor SC. Termidor SC is a non-repellent product that is picked up on the fine hairs of an ants body and then inadvertently spread through the ant colony by normal social interaction. Most people notice that the entire ant infestation is gone in 1-3 weeks. The only downside to Termidor SC is that it is an outdoor only product. If you need to treat indoors you can use Phantom. Phantom is a lot like the Termidor but it does take a little bit longer to see results and it can be used indoors.

  • Asked by Lisa from Garland, Texas
    05/02/2012
    Q
Which product(s) should I use for massive infestation ants outdoors? (no fire ants)
I literally have ant trails on every step, tree, crack, and edge of my yard (the small ones like carpenter or pharoah) Can you tell me exactly which product(s) and how much to apply? Do I use some sort of station or apply it directly to the ground? Do I apply it next to any part of the ant trail? How close? How far apart from each other? Any help is greatly appreciated! These ants are taking over my entire property!
    A
We recommend using our outdoor Ant Kit. The Outdoor Ant Bait kit comes with 4x Antopia ant Bait Stations and 2 x quarts of Gourmet Liquid Ant Bait . Ants will enter the stations, consume the bait and because of the delayed kill, will take it back to the ant colonies to share with the other ants. Placing the bait in the Antopia Ant Bait Stations will help keep it fresh, protect from non-target animals and also stop rain from washing it away. The Antopia Ant Bait Stations should be placed about 50 ft apart. You can also supplement the treatment by applying a protein bait such as Advance 375A Ant Bait Granules in your yard to help eliminate any ants that do not accept carbohydrate baits like the Gourmet Liquid Ant Bait.

    Q
Can I use Advion Ant Bait Gel along with other hardware store bait gels such as Terro?
I have lots of Terro bait stations placed around my house that seem to be killing the ants but I'm still seeing plenty of live ones. I've decided to try the Advion Ant Bait Gel in hopes that it's kill time is more delayed and gives them time to get back to the colony. Is it ok to place this bait next to or near the Terro or will it create problems with cross-contamination. I've got the Terro placed where they seem to be feeding so it would be ideal to just add this to the same area.
    A
We wouldn't necessarily recommend using a second bait if the ants are actually eating the bait. Not because they would cross contaminate each other but because they will have pretty much the same effect as one another. Instead you may want to consider using a product such as Phantom Aerosol. Phantom is a non-repellent insecticide that has a delayed reaction which allows ants time to get back to the colony and spread the product. In essence, the ants will not be able to tell that the product is in place and they will pick it up on the fine hairs all over their body and inadvertently carry it back to the colony where over a course of a few days it will knock out the entire colony. Phantom works really well because you don't have to worry about whether the ants will all take the bait, they just need to walk over the treated areas. Phantom should be applied around baseboards, door frames, window frames and places where utilities (cables, pipes and wires) enter through the wall as these are the most likely places for the ants to enter/exit.

  • Asked by Spiros from Burlington

    Q
I put out Advion Ant Bait Gel and it disappeared overnight?
Did the ants eat the gel spots I put out or what? I made them pea size and 10 minutes after all dots were swarmed with ants. This morning I see few ants but the dots are completely gone??
    A

If the Advion Ant Bait Gel is gone, it is likely that it was consumed by the ants.  If you are still seeing ants in the area, you should reapply and continue to make the bait available until you are no longer seeing activity.

    Q
How long until I can clean up Advion Ant Bait Gel I've put out?
My ant issue is largely in the kitchen, in particular on the counter where the grout has cracked along where the wall meets the counter top. I ran Advion Ant Bait Gel all along this seam last night. I can tell it's already working since I put it down about 12 hours ago. At what point can I clean this away? 30 days?
    A

You can replace Advion Ant Bait Gel a minimum of two weeks from initial applicaiotn (cleaning up previous Advion Ant bait placements and making sure dry). Please read our article How to Get Rid of Ants to learn more about how to plan a successful ant control program.

    Q
Is Advion Ant Bait Gel safe to use in my child's bedroom?
I ask because it seems that a human would have to eat a lot of it to have any negative effects from it- I worry because I had to apply it in the middle of my 2 year old's room because that where the ants are coming from... What if she comes in contact with it?
    A

Yes, Advion Ant Bait Gel is safe to use in a child's bedroom as it poses no harm when it is applied as directed. You should place the gel directly into the cracks and crevices near the areas where you are seeing activity so the children will not have access to the gel.

  • Asked by Michelle from Yonkers, Ny

    Q
Does the activity get worse before it gets better when using the Advion Ant Bait Gel?
My exterminator placed Advion gel around my bathroom 4 days ago, and the ants seem to be getting worse. They are definitely huddling around the bait (placed around the sink and shower window), but are now also on the ceiling, a few on the wall, and alot in the tub in the mornings. Very gross. My exterminator said it usually gets worse before it gets better and that it takes up to 2 weeks for the product to fully work. It just seems strange that they are not following a trail, but just randomly scattering. Very frustrating!
    A

The Advion Ant Bait is very attractive to ants and offer a delayed reaction which allows the ants to get back to their colony and spread the bait. There could be a couple of different reasons why the Advion Ant bait may seem like its working for you with a heavier infestation than before. If they are going to it a little but you are still seeing activity of ants, it is likely because the product has not been down long enough for an entire colony to be eliminated. It can take at least a month if not longer for you to see an ant colony diminish or be gone from your home completely. • Asked by Greg from Lake Orion, Mi
    09/28/2017
    Q
Do I just use Advion Ant Bait Gel and then forget about the ants?
Or do I clean them up after dying? Where do they go? I see them in the cupboards.
    A

Advion Ant Bait Gel should be placed in areas where there is ant activity. You may not see them die (and this is normal) or where they go (unless a trailing site is visible). The bait should be replenished every couple of weeks (cleaning up previous bait placements/dead ants). You will see a decline in the amount of ants over time if they are accepting the bait and sharing it among one another. Please take a few moments to review our treatment article on How to Get Rid of Ants for a successful program.

  • Asked by Philip from Catawissa,pa.
    10/29/2013
    Q
I will be dispensing Advion cockroach bait gel, how long should I wait to check if more bait is needed?
There is light to moderate activity, not a heavy infestation.
    A
You should check Advion Roach bait spots about once every couple of days at first to get a good idea of how quickly they are consuming what you have put out. If consumption seems slow and the infestation is light to moderate, you can probably go about 2 weeks between check in. If the bait becomes covered in a light layer of the normal household dust that falls, or if it becomes extremely hard and dry, wipe up the old bait and replace with new. Each bait placement should be no larger than the size of a green pea.
