Yes, it is normal for some roaches to not go directly to a bait such as Advion Roach Bait Gel and eat it. It can often be that they are feeding on some that has been brought back to the colony already, feeding on the feces of the adults, or feeding on other dead roaches. They also could be looking for water or other materials and not currently foraging for the bait. Depending on the size of the colony, it can take at least several weeks to a month or so to eliminate the entire population. If you have used the same bait for several months, than we would recommend rotating with a different bait to prevent bait aversion. Good rotation choices would include Maxforce FC Magnum or Maxforce Impact Roach Bait Gel.
According to the the Advion Roach Bait Gel MSDS:
"Potential Health Effects:
Based on animal testing, no biologically significant effects are expected from skin or eye contact or by ingestion."
You should still read and follow the product label which recommends that you use the roach bait gel in places that will be inaccessible to your pet. Of course, if you see any unusual behavior or signs of sickness, you should consult a veterinarian.
Yes, Advion Roach Bait Gel is a great product for various roach species including German Roaches. It should not be the only product used for eradication. We do offer it in our Roach Control Rotation C Kit. Please take a few moments to review our treatment article 'How to Get Rid of Roaches' for more helpful information on eliminating this insect.
There is no need to worry about any type of issues from your dog eating roaches that have been in contact with Advion Roach Bait Gel. There is only enough insecticide in these products to kill a roach, not enough to have any effect on a mammal.
We do carry Advion Roach Bait Gel for roaches. Advion Ant Gel is specifically formulated for ants listed on the product label.
Typically with that small of an amount there is no need for worry. More than 90% of the baits are made up of food based ingredients which is what attracts the roaches to it to take back to the colony. If you are concerned you can monitor your dogs and contact Syngenta directly regarding any side effects they may have from what little they ingested. Also, keep in mind that any place you are putting this bait gel should be in an area the pets cannot get to anyways, so you may not want to put the bait in the same places again if the pets have easy access to those areas. You can reach Syngenta at 302-425-2000.
You could bait near the stove (and other areas in the kitchen) to attract them, but you may notice more activity as any of the baits that you select including Advion Roach Bait do contain food attractants and this is normal. You will want to place new bait out every two weeks (cleaning up old bait first). We suggest using the products in our Roach Control Kits. You can find a guide for bait placements in our Roach Control Treatment Article.
While both Advion Roach and Advion Ant Bait Gels have the same active ingredient, their other ingredients could be different to target the pests they are specifically labeled for. Therefore, we would recommend to use Advion Roach Bait Gel for roaches and Advion Ant Bait Gel for Ants - see labels for a specific list of target pests for each product.
Yes, we do recommend rotating baits every few months to avoid bait aversion and bait resistance. We make bait rotation easy for you as we put a different bait in each of our roach control kits. If you are currently using the Advion Roach Bait Gel we do advise using Maxforce FC Magnum that is included in the roach control kit roation A.
When used as directed it is safe to use Advion Roach Bait Gel in areas that you would cook and eat as it should not contact food prep surfaces or dishes/utensils. We have a great video here that shows where to apply the bait. You can see the video by clicking on the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kSzVucMtA0
How long it takes to eliminate a roach infestation depends on how large the infestation is, how consistent and thorough you are being with treatments and what products you are using. There is not a set time; it can take but it can take weeks or months even to get complete control. Advion Roach Bait gel is typically not used alone but in combination with other products. We would recommend one of our roach control kits. You can see the kits by clicking on the link here. We also have a great article for eliminating them that can offer some great advice; you can find it here.
The Advion Roach Bait Gel should be applied once every two weeks (cleaning up old bait placements prior to new applications) to keep the roaches attracted to the product. The Advion Roach Bait Gel has a shelf life of one year from the date of purchase if stored away from extreme temperatures.
When using Advion Roach Bait Gel it should be applied up high in areas that you do not spray, but they can be used around the same time. We have a great video here that shows where to apply the bait. Sprays such as Talstar P, would be applied down low, along base boards, behind the fridge/stove etc where you do not place the bait. We have a great video here that shows where to spray for perimeter and interior spraying.
If you sprayed where you should be applying bait, you would want to thoroughly wash the area to remove any residual spray and then apply the bait as needed and directed on the label.
You should place Advion Roach Bait Gel out as often as needed. Baits and sprays are not used in the same areas. We have a great video here on where you should be placing the bait. We also recommend that you use an IGR (insect growth regulator) in addition to the bait. This will help prevent the infestation from getting larger while you are eliminating it. We have a great guide here on treatment as well.
Advion Roach Bait Gel works on German, American, Australian, Smoky-Brown, Brown, Asian, and Brown-Banded species of cockroaches. You may also want to check out our Roach Identification and Treatment Guide.
Advion Roach Bait Gel will take at least a couple weeks to eradicate roaches. The transfer of the bait to the rest of the roaches is what takes time.
Advion Roach Bait Gel is only labeled to eradicate roaches. We do carry products that you can apply to treat silverfish. We carry a kit, Get Rid of Silverfish Kit, that includes a bait labeled for them as well as other great treatment products. Please take a few moments to read our How to Get Rid of Silverfish Article. Please let us know if you need anything else.
Yes, Advion Roach Bait Gel can be used with the bait plate stations. You should remove the perforated tab so that roaches will still have access to the bait. For most roach bait applications, it is best to apply the bait directly into cracks and crevices to make it most available and attractive to roaches. There is a great video directly on the product page above with directions on how to apply roach baits.
Advion Roach bait will not kill Carpenter ants. Phantom would be a great product to use. Pests can't even detect Phantom, so they walk right over it and then spread it to other insects hidden behind walls or in their home colony, killing every other pest they come in contact with. If you know where the ant nest is, then you can spray it directly. Be sure to keep the spray away from your bait. Spray low bait high.
Advion Roach Bait Gel works best if applied in small green pea size dabs. Please visit the Advion Roach bait page for the application video. You can cap and it will last up to a year.
