Ideally, you should not place bait such as Advion Roach Bait Gel anywhere where a residual spray has been applied and is still active. We would recommend waiting at least 2-4 weeks before baiting on surfaces which have been sprayed with a residual insecticide, but how long that residual may last really depends on the product you used. It it has been several months since you have sprayed, then usually there would not be enough residual left to deter raoches from the bait. Another option would be using the bait in Bait Plate Stations so that it is not placed direcly on treated surfaces. Please take a few moments to review our Roach Treatment Guide for more tips on treating this pest.
We would recommend placing the Advion Roach Bait Gel on a piece of plastic wrap or foil and placing it under your furniture (out of reach of children and pets). Since the roaches have already visited the couch it would be considered a hot spot area that needs to be treated as more roaches will likely visit the area even if no gel is applied there. You may do the same near small appliances. You cannot use the gel in electrical outlets. We highly recommend you take a moment to read our roach control guides to be sure you are following all of the protocols to get rid of the infestation from your home.
The same Advion Roach Bait will control the little ones as they consume it. The babies are there because you now are having the next round of the colony emerge as the adults have all died out and the eggs have hatched, and the babies are coming out looking for food and water. Using an IGR (birth control for the insects) when treating for roaches is key as this stops the reproductive cycle and keeps them from molting and growing in number. Continue keeping things clean and dry and practicing good sanitation habits, use the bait gel either Advion or Maxforce as they both work equally well, and consider the use of an IGR or Insecticide or both like the Gentrol Complete which offers both in one can. Please refer to our Roach Treatment Guide for more information on treating this pest.
While roaches are typically nocturnal creatures and prefer darkness, leaving the light on would not completely keep them from coming out for Advion Roach Bait Gel. I would think the process may take a longer as they prefer darkness when scavenging for food and water. We cannot say whether leaving the apt would make it worse as we do not know the level of infestation you are having. When treating for roaches we recommend retreating every 10-14 days with a combination of products. That includes Gentrol Point Source Packs (insect growth regulator to stop reproduction) and spraying a residual insecticide along the baseboards, behind appliances, in corners, along underside of cabinets, etc and baiting. Old bait placements need to be removed and fresh bait should be reapplied every 10-14 days. The Gentrol Point Source packs last for 90 days so those do not need to be touched for 90 days. Please take a moment to look over our Roach Control Guide for more information and tips on treating this pest and preventing future infestations.
